What kind of oil to pour into a VAZ 2112 16 valves

Getting ready for replacement

Let's start changing the oil and start by draining the old one:

  • Unscrew the oil filler plug.

  • The engine protection (if one is installed on the car) usually has a slot for the sump drain plug. If this slot is not present, the protection will have to be removed.
  • After ensuring normal access to the drain plug, use a 17 key to unscrew it.

  • Then you need to wait until the oil drains from the engine. This procedure usually takes about 5 minutes.

  • The filter is usually easy to remove. So, it is often removed simply by manual effort. To prevent your hands from slipping, you can use gloves, a handy rag or a piece of sandpaper.
  • If this does not help, you can use a special oil filter puller. It is very simple and intuitive to use.
  • If one is not available, then you can simply pierce the filter with a screwdriver and unscrew it.

Pay attention to the seat of the oil filter. The rubber sealing ring from the old filter should not remain on it. If there are parts of it left, they must be removed with a knife and wiped with a rag.

  • You need to add some oil to the new filter. You also need to lubricate the rubber ring on the filter.
  • After which the filter is simply screwed back on by hand. Remember - WITH YOUR HANDS! Do not tighten the new oil filter using a puller - otherwise you will not be able to remove it after 10 thousand km.
  • Here is the filter installed. In the meantime, the oil has already drained and you can screw the drain plug back in.

Flushing! If you are planning to flush the engine, you must first drain the oil and tighten the plug. Then rinse the engine, drain it again (the last point in the instructions on the bottle of flushing agent) and only then change the filter!

  • Reinstall the protection.
  • Now fill the oil through the filler neck. For convenience, we use a funnel.
  • We control the oil level using the oil dipstick. It should be between the min and max marks.

  • Then tighten the plug and you can start the engine.

Starting the engine is a simple process. After the test run, you need to check the following:

  • Is the oil pressure indicator light on?
  • Are there any leaks in the drain plug or other parts of the engine? If there is, eliminate it.
  • Check the oil level and add to the required level.

The following is the oil change process with specific illustrations of how to perform certain operations:

PROCEDURE FOR CHANGING ENGINE OIL AND OIL FILTER

We change the oil with the engine fully warmed up. It is advisable to carry out the work on a lift or inspection ditch. Unscrew the plug from the filler neck. This will prevent the formation of a vacuum in the upper part of the engine and ensure the best flow of oil.

Using a 17 key, unscrew the oil pan plug and drain the oil into a container with a volume of at least 4 liters. Perform this operation carefully as the oil may burn the skin of your hands. It is best to unscrew it using a wrench with a handle (socket or open-end) and allow the unscrewed plug to fall into the container for drained oil and subsequently, when it cools, catch the plug. The duration of draining the oil is at least 10 minutes or until the oil drains from the crankcase.

We unscrew the oil filter using a puller (for clarity, the operation was performed while disassembling the engine).

If there is no oil filter remover, you can use a screwdriver or an awl. The filter housing is punched perpendicular to the fitting in the filter in a convenient place and unscrewed by rotating the handle of the device used. We also allow the oil to completely drain from the engine fitting.

Before installing a new oil filter, fill it with new engine oil to approximately half capacity and lubricate the filter O-ring with engine oil. This will prevent air from the lubrication system when starting the engine after changing the oil.

Then we tighten the drain plug on the engine crankcase using a key. The plug has a conical self-sealing thread and does not require the installation of any additional sealing gaskets.

Pour in the rest of the oil. To control the amount of oil being poured, we use an oil level indicator (“dipstick”). The oil level should be 2/3 of the lower mark of the permissible oil level segment on the dipstick. Fill the oil slowly to prevent overfilling, constantly monitoring the level since due to high viscosity the oil level will rise slowly.

After filling the oil, tighten the oil filler plug and install the dipstick in place.

Let's start the engine. After the oil pressure warning light on the instrument panel goes out, stop the engine. Check the oil level again. Top up if necessary.

Oil filter

Before adding fresh oil to the engine, you must first replace the oil filter.

1. Unscrew the old oil filter using a special wrench. If there is no special key available, and the filter cannot be unscrewed by hand, then pierce its body with a screwdriver and, using it as a lever, unscrew the filter. Punch it closer to the bottom so as not to damage the fitting on the engine.

2. Fill the new oil filter with up to half of the engine oil and install it on the engine, having first generously lubricated the rubber sealing ring with oil. After replacing the oil filter, you should begin pouring fresh oil into the engine.

3. Unscrew the oil filler plug and insert a funnel into it.

4. Fill the car engine with fresh oil, guided by the level indicators on the oil dipstick. The oil level indicator on the dipstick should be at about.

5. After filling the oil, the engine must be started for 2-3 minutes, then turned off and again checked the oil level on the dipstick. If necessary, add oil.
