MAZ today
In the 21st century, the Minsk Automobile Plant is an enterprise of a full production cycle, on the main site of which there are modern foundry, forging, mechanical assembly, thermo-galvanic, press-forging, spring, tool-stamping and other production facilities. MAZ unites thirteen factories in different cities of Belarus into a single industrial holding.
MAZ vehicles are supplied to forty countries around the world: Europe (former socialist countries); Latin America, Africa, Middle East, Central and Southeast Asia. The production capacity of the Minsk Automobile Plant today is 35 thousand units of equipment per year (trucks, buses, trolleybuses). The enterprises of the MAZ holding employ more than 25 thousand workers and other employees.
In an effort to keep up with the times, the automobile plant produces equipment that meets high international environmental standards (up to Euro 6 inclusive). But this, naturally, has nothing to do with the MAZ-5551 truck: this model is still focused primarily on the market of the CIS countries.
Onboard tractor MAZ-6310
MAZ-6310 is a large-capacity flatbed truck with a 6×2 wheel arrangement, designed for transporting a wide range of cargo (in particular, as part of a road train) on paved roads.
Advantages of the car
The car is an extended version of the MAZ-6312, which joined the model range of the Minsk machine builder in 2007, at which time its full-fledged production began.
Technical characteristics of the MAZ-6310 tractor:
- In the “base” of the MAZ-6310, a large all-metal cabin is installed, which contains two seats (the driver has air suspension and adjustments in several planes) and a pair of sleeping “shelves”.
- The truck is 10,190 mm long, up to 2,550 mm wide, and 4,000 mm high (including the awning).
- The car has a 5050 mm gap between the front and middle axles, and the base of the rear bogie extends another 1350 mm.
- MAZ-6310 weighs from 14010 to 14210 kg.
- Load capacity from 11340 to 11540 kg (depending on version).
- The total weight of the truck is 25,700 kg.
- The front part can withstand a load of 7100 kg; the rear axle is 11,500 kg, and the lifting “third” axle is 7,100 kg.
- With a trailer, the total weight must not exceed 43,700 kg.
- As standard, the truck is equipped with an onboard platform (with an awning) with a volume of 56 m3 (internal dimensions 7820x2320x2900).
- The MAZ-6310 engine is a V-shaped six-cylinder diesel Mercedes-Benz OM501LA (“Euro-4” or “Euro-5”) with a displacement of 11.9 liters with a turbocharger, Common Rail battery injection technology, charge air cooling and electric start.
- Power - 435 hp. (320 kW) at 1900 rpm and 2100 N•m of torque at 1100 rpm.
- 16-speed manual transmission.
- Drive wheels of the second axle with cross-axle differential lock.
- The maximum speed of the truck is 85 km/h.
- Fuel consumption is 32 liters per 100 kilometers.
The MAZ-6310 is based on a reliable ladder-type frame, which is made of high-strength types of steel, on which an all-metal cabin is mounted using a four-point air suspension.
The front axle of the truck has a dependent suspension on two semi-elliptical springs, equipped with a pair of telescopic shock absorbers and a transverse stabilizer. At the rear it is equipped with a pneumatic four-cylinder system with electronic control.
The truck is equipped with a steering mechanism with built-in hydraulic booster, dual-circuit brakes on each wheel and ABS, as well as a 500-liter fuel capacity.
Service
Daily maintenance includes:
- Checking the level of working fluid in the tank.
- Checking the oil and coolant levels.
- Diagnostics of the power unit for damage and defects.
- Checking the pressure level of oil fluid and air in the pneumatic system.
Motor Maintenance:
- Conduct an external inspection of the entire mechanism.
- Identify damaged and worn parts that need to be replaced with new ones.
- Check the tightness of the mounting nuts and bolts that connect the engine mounts to the inside of the vehicle body.
- Inspect the muffler, bracket with frame, exhaust pipe ladders with transverse frame.
- Check the condition and tightness of the connection between the hose and the muffler body.
What kind of oil to fill
Recommended brands: TNK, Sibneft, MX Extra, Lukoil - Avangard. The oil volume should not exceed 8-10 liters, depending on the engine modification.
Changing the engine oil is carried out as follows:
- Unscrew the drain plug from the crankcase and remove the oil drain cap.
- Clean all elements from dirt and dust.
- Drain the old oil.
- Pour the flushing mixture into the engine housing (10 liters of diesel fuel + 6 liters of oil).
- Start the engine and let it warm up for 5 minutes. The crankshaft rotation speed should be minimal.
- Stop the power unit and drain the flushing mixture.
- Change filter elements.
- Fill in fresh oil.
Onboard MAZ-4371
MAZ-4371 is a medium-tonnage low-bed truck with a 4x2 wheel arrangement, available in several versions. The chassis is designed to accommodate a large number of special superstructures (tow truck, car lifts, tanks, utility equipment, etc.), and the vehicle with flatbed/van is designed to transport various cargoes along urban and suburban routes.
Specifications
A tractor unit with two axles is equipped with a suspension where:
- The front axle is represented by two main elements. Shock absorbers to dampen suspension vibrations and leaf springs made of hardened steel;
- The rear axle is mounted on air springs and leaf springs.
On the latest models, a torsion stabilizer can be installed.
Suspension type
The front shock absorbers have two longitudinal springs of a semi-elliptical design. The rear ends are characterized by a sliding type. There are two double-acting hydraulic shock absorbers. I would also like to note that the dynamics have been improved by stabilizing lateral stability.
The rear suspension consists of two main and two auxiliary springs, which have sliding ends. Moreover, a stabilizer, as in the case of the front suspension, is present.
The steering mechanism is made with a power distributor and a special remote hydraulic cylinder.
Dynamic indicators
The truck's features are enough for 100 km/h. This is the maximum speed at which the car can travel. Moreover, the time to accelerate to an average speed of 60 km/h will be 60 seconds, and the braking distance will be 36.7 meters.

Steering
The power steering is represented by an external hydraulic cylinder.
Brake system
The system is represented by a dual-circuit pneumatic (main) and parking drive. A motor limiter, which is also pneumatic, serves as an additional brake.
It will be useful for experts to know that the diameter of the holding drum is 420 m, and the width of the brake linings is 160 mm.
The semi-trailer is equipped with one- and two-line brake systems. Wheels without discs are characterized by a 6-bolt fastening. They are fitted with tires of size 11.00R20 (300R508).
Our hero’s transmission can be equipped with a four-speed manual gearbox with a YaMZ-238A range-shifter. It provides movement with eight forward gears. The cardan transmission is made in the form of a single shaft.
The engine is located in the front of the tractor. The cabin is designed for two seats. There are also two sleeping spaces. In some modifications you can find 3 seats and one bed.
Engine
Of course, over time, the mechanical heart of tractors has improved and developed. However, the principle of operation and structure of the engines was common. For example, a tractor with the MAZ 5432 index was equipped with diesel engines from the Yaroslavl plant manufacturer - YaMZ-238B.
This mechanism consists of 8 cylinders located at an angle of 90 degrees. The cylinder block is made of low-alloy high-quality cast iron. Moreover, the upper part of the crankcase was cast together. In this way it formed a single whole.
Surprisingly, the cylinder liners and both cylinder heads are also made of cast iron. There are one heads for each bank of cylinders, with pressed seats and valve guides.
It should be added that the system includes liquid cooling and turbocharging. The water cavity is sealed by three rubber rings.
The internal combustion chamber is single-lane in the piston. Moreover, the pistons, like the engine, are solid. They are made from an aluminum alloy with a high silicon content.
Motor technical parameters
The gas tank capacity is 500 liters. This is sufficient for this type of technology. The car's fuel consumption per 100 km is 32.3 liters. This is assuming that the car is moving at a speed of 60 kilometers per hour. Therefore, at a speed of 80 km/h, fuel consumption is 41.8 liters.

This motor was specially invented and developed for Minsk tractors. In addition to them, it was used in heavy bulldozers, tractors, dump trucks and other equipment. Today such motors are no longer produced.
Price and configuration of MAZ-5551
A new MAZ-5551 dump truck can be purchased in the range from 1,360,000 to 1,390,000 rubles. A similar pricing policy is used for modifications of the MAZ-5551A2-320, as well as the MAZ-5551F2-323 with brand new power units with a power of 230 horsepower (YaMZ-636). The truck is capable of transporting about 10 tons. Used dump trucks from the 2000s can be bought from 320,000 to 505,000 rubles. A Belarusian from the late 80s and 90s can be found for 140 – 190 thousand rubles. It is clear that it is best to purchase a dump truck from the last year of production, because it comes with a new power unit that meets European Euro-3 requirements, and which already has 230 horses under the cab.
