38 years old I drive a Lada Granta gray-blue Tolyatti, Russia

Message

Today I decided to check the level in the box using a speed sensor as shown here. taken from the Kalina forum So it turned out that it was about 2.25 liters. I looked in the book and it says 2.2 liters, 2013 book. I looked in the book of the new sample 2.35. Question 1) Should I add it to 2.35 or leave it like that? 2) And what kind of oil can I add? I am inclined to use semi-synthetic Lukoil TM4 75-90. since I didn’t find 75-85.

Change frequency and types of oil used

According to the manufacturer's instructions, transmission oil in old Grants should be changed approximately every 70,000 kilometers, or once every five years (whichever comes first). In the case of gearbox 2181, the oil will have to be changed almost three times less often - once every 200,000 kilometers. Another important aspect regarding gearbox maintenance is checking the oil level and its consistency. For older boxes, a period of 15,000 kilometers between checks is set, and they have a special dipstick for checking the level. Box 2181 does not provide for oil level control, so there is no dipstick in the design.

In addition, in boxes 2181 and 2190 the volume of the transmission oil sump is significantly different - in old boxes it is 3.3 liters, in new ones it is 2.2. Be sure to remember this when changing the oil - an insufficient oil level (as well as an excessive one) will definitely not benefit the gearbox.

As a rule, the factory oil that is poured into Grant boxes is semi-synthetic and belongs to the GL-4 class. Below is information about the types of factory oil being poured (this does not mean that this is what you should fill in - there are better options on the market, but this information may be useful if you decide to add oil rather than make a complete replacement):

— For box 2190: LukOil TM-4 and ROSNEFT KINETIC 80W85 (these brands of oils were used for a short time, for several months from the start of production of the Lada Grant), TATNEFT TRANSLUX markings TM-4-12, 75W85 (used since 2012);

— For box 2181: TATNEFT TRANSLUX and ROSNEFT KINETIC marking 75W85.

Regulations for changing gearbox oil from AvtoVAZ

It is necessary to change the oil in the gearbox-2181 in one case - if the mileage exceeds 200,000 km. In theory, the entire service life of the car is indicated here, and the numbers are taken from the regulations.

It seems like everything is there for adding oil.

The regulations do not yet say how often to check the oil level. Such checks are not necessary, and therefore there is no diagnostic dipstick in the crankcase design. Three details will be important to us:

  • Drain plug (key “17”);
  • Filling plug and hole for level control;
  • Reverse switch.

Be aware that the “Standard” package always includes the “2190” box. The rule is also met for new cars produced after 2013.

What kind of oil was poured into the gearbox from the factory?

From the factory, the oil in the Lada Granta gearbox may be as follows:

  • TATNEFT TRANSLUX 75W85;
  • ROSNEFT KINETIC SERVICE 75W85.

Each of the materials is classified as GL-4. Let us remember that we were talking about the “2181” box, the crankcase volume of which is 2.3 liters.

The filling volume can be 2.1 or 2.2 liters.

Oil change

For 2190 gearboxes, the algorithm for changing the oil is quite simple - you need to loosen the drain plug on the transmission housing (you will need a 17 key), unscrew it by hand, placing a container for used oil under the hole in advance. Next, the plug is tightened (if the wrench is a torque wrench, use a force of approximately 32-45 N*m) and three liters of oil are poured through the filler hole (you will need to insert a hose into it). Using the dipstick, the oil level is brought to the optimal level (slightly below the maximum mark on the dipstick).

With boxes 2181 everything is somewhat more complicated. Changing the oil in the Lada Granta gearbox can be done either using the control hole on the crankcase or through the switch hole. In the first case, the procedure is almost identical to that used for 2190 boxes, with the exception of the volume of oil - it will require 2.2 liters. However, if the control plug cannot be unscrewed, refueling will need to be done by unscrewing the reverse switch. Access to it is blocked by the oil filter, the housing of which will need to be moved slightly to the side. To do this, you will need to remove the negative terminal from the filter, the screws securing its housing and two connectors - the mass flow sensor and the adsorber.

The oils used in 2181 and 2190, as a rule, belong to the GL-4 class (you should not use the seemingly higher quality GL-5: it contains various additives that “kill” the box synchronizers, but help preserve the gears) . The main oil markings are 80W85/90, 75W80/85/90. Manufacturers can be different - Lukoil, ROSNEFT, and TNK will do. Which oil viscosity to choose depends on the temperature range in which the car is supposed to be used: for example, from -26 to +35/45 80W85/90 is used, in the range from -40 to +35/45 - 75W85/90.

Changing transmission oil

If you do not use the services of car mechanics, but prefer to fill new oil yourself, then you should only do this in the warm season. According to documents, it is necessary to update the transmission fluid every 60 thousand kilometers, but you can do it a little more often. If you want to meet the deadline and time for updating the transmission fluid on the manual transmission of the Lada Granta in the winter, then choose a warmer day, and before installing the car in a pit, drive for a distance of about 5 kilometers. This is necessary to dilute the oil and increase the temperature in the box. Remember that the oil heats up during operation, so allow the machine to cool slightly before carrying out repair work.

Replacement is carried out according to the following instructions:

  1. Place your Lada Granta on an overpass or above a viewing hole. This will provide easier access to the gearbox. Prepare a waste oil canister, new transmission fluid and a set of tools.
  2. Changing the fluid in a manual transmission begins with removing the old lubricant. To do this, start unscrewing the plugs located at the bottom of the box. You should not turn them inside out right away, as in this case the liquid will not flow into the prepared canister, but into the hole. Make a half turn with the wrench so you can remove the bolts by hand.
  3. Place the canister and manually remove the bottom plug first, and then the top one. Thanks to this, air will circulate inside the mechanism and the oil will drain faster.
  4. The liquid will drain completely only after an hour. Take your time to do a better job.
  5. Screw on the bottom plug. Replacement does not require mandatory flushing, so we will omit this item.
  6. Using a special syringe (sold in all auto stores and costs about 100 rubles), fill the box with oil through the top plug. You can do this with a regular syringe.
  7. The box, according to the documentation, contains about 2.2 liters of oil. Make sure that its level reaches the edge of the thread of the top plug.
  8. Use a piece of rag to remove any stains from the manual transmission. Screw on the top plug.

Changing manual transmission lubricant on a Lada Granta is not a complicated procedure. Even a beginner can do it with his own hands. You will only have to spend money on new oil and a special syringe (it is more convenient for them to carry out the work).

Selecting transmission fluid for Grants

Oil quality is one of the important indicators. When purchasing, you should make sure that the supplier is reliable so as not to purchase a fake. Semi-synthetic and synthetic fluids have proven themselves well. The instructions for the car indicate which substances should be used.

  • Lukoil TM 4;
  • Novoil Trans KP;
  • Rosneft Konenik;
  • Tatneft Translux TM4-12;
  • Shell.

For the automatic transmission, the factory uses the following brands of transmission substances: Genuine EJ-1 ATF, Nissan ATF Matic-S, semi-synthetics from Lukoil.

What oil should be used in the Lada Granta gearbox?

The optimal lubricant for Grants will be 75W-90, suitable for use in all climatic zones. For a robotic transmission, it would be optimal to use the G-Box GL-4 brand produced by Gazpromneft. It is better to use semi-synthetic oil.

For mechanics - “. An automatic from JATCO will require Genuine EJ-1 ATF oil, which is also poured into Nissan cars.

  • for a robotic gearbox - 2.2 liters;
  • for a manual transmission: 3.1 liters. This is a Lada Granta cable box; changing the oil requires less fluid. On older gearbox models, the working volume of the “transmission” exceeded 4 liters;
  • for an automatic from Jatco: about 4.5 liters.

The same parameters apply to the Lada-Kalina 2 car, since Granta is built on its basis.

Preparing for replacement

First the box needs to be warmed up. Then they place the car on the pit, stop it and try to remove one plug. We are talking about the control plug (key “17”).

View from under the crankcase protection

If nothing happens with the plug, you will have to change the oil without supervision. This is no longer good. Try unscrewing the switch located on the top of the crankcase.

The oil volume in the Lada Granta gearbox is known to everyone - it is 2.3 liters. But it is still better to perform the replacement with control. Filling is done either through the control hole or through the switch hole. Access to the latter is blocked by a filter.

Filter housing operation

First, disconnect the “negative” terminal (key “10”). Then you can use a regular Phillips screwdriver to unscrew the mounting screws.

The first two dismantling steps

The thin clamp that secures the expansion tank hose is also removed (see photo).

Disconnect a couple of connectors: the mass air flow sensor and the adsorber valve connector. The first of them is oval (photo below). And the second one is turned off like this: tighten the tongue, remove the terminal block.

Down with all terminal blocks!

The filter housing can be moved to the side in the final step. There is no need to disconnect it from the corrugation.

Rubber fasteners can be defeated this way: the rubber band is held with pliers, and the body is pulled back (to the left, forward). Start with the right front support.

Reconnaissance in force

We are trying to remove the reverse switch. We look for a plastic connector on the crankcase (see photo) and immediately disconnect it.

View of the gearbox housing from under the hood

Using a 22mm round wrench, try to unscrew the switch housing. Cancel the replacement if nothing can be done - neither unscrew the “top” plug, nor remove the switch.

When the switch is returned to its place, the threads are treated with sealant. The tightening torque should be 28-45 N*m.

Changing the oil in manual transmission and AMT

About the volume of oil in the gearbox . Depending on the type of manual transmission, different amounts of gear oil may be required:

  • Manual transmission with traction control drive - 3.1 liters.
  • Manual transmission with cable control drive or AMT (robot) - 2.25 liters.

You will need : a set of keys, new gear oil, an empty container, a funnel and a hose. Warm up the oil in the gearbox (drive 5-10 km) so that it becomes less viscous.

Procedure:

  • We find the drain hole on the gearbox housing from the bottom of the car and unscrew it using a “17” wrench.
  • We drain the old gear oil into an empty container, which we place under the drain hole.
  • We fill in new transmission oil through a hose that we insert (depending on the type of manual transmission): instead of a dipstick (for convenience, the air filter housing can be unscrewed and moved to the side), or instead of the reverse switch, which we unscrew with a “22” key.

Add oil to the gearbox

conveniently through the yellow plug. Only the air resonator needs to be removed (for Lada Vesta/XRAY). The plug itself is attached to one bolt with a TorX head, which can be unscrewed with a regular head (photo author):

Attention! If the oil drained from the gearbox is dark in color and metal particles are visible in it, the gearbox should be washed. Pour 1-1.5 liters of special flushing oil into the box crankcase. With one of the front wheels hanging, start the engine and shift into gear. After 5-7 minutes, drain the flushing oil and fill with clean transmission oil.

Video on changing the oil in a Renault manual transmission

by car Lada Vesta:

Depending on the type of manual transmission, checking the oil level in the gearbox is carried out:

  • using the dipstick (the oil level should be between the MIN and MAX marks).
  • through the inspection plug (the oil level should be at the lower edge of the inspection hole).

Algorithm: how to change

The engine oil in Grant is supposed to be changed every 15-20 thousand kilometers. The range is determined by the degree of load on the car. The higher they are, the more often the lubricant should be changed. The amount required for replacement varies depending on the type of transmission. A system with an automatic requires 4.4 liters of oil, for a car with a manual – 3.2.

You can change the engine oil yourself. It looks like this step by step:

  • Warming up the engine to operating temperatures.
  • Installing a car on an overpass or inspection hole.
  • Power plant shutdown.
  • Removing the crankcase protection (if you have a 16-valve model).
  • Removing the plug from the filler neck.
  • Cleaning the drain hole around the perimeter.
  • Removing the plug on the pallet (you will need a 17 mm or hex key).

  • Draining used oil.
  • Return the plug to its place.

  • Cleaning the filter housing.
  • Fill the new filter halfway with oil. O-ring lubrication.
  • Installation of a new filter.
  • Add oil through the top neck. The total volume is 0.5 liters below normal.
  • Checking the lubricant level with a dipstick. This is carried out no earlier than 3 minutes after filling.
  • Test start of the engine, monitoring the absence of leaks, re-checking the lubricant level, topping it up if necessary.

Manipulations should be carried out in protective gloves - the drained oil is characterized by a high temperature.

How often should you change your oil?

This question is asked by many Grant owners. The answer here is simple and lies in the service book of your car.

Old oil from the Granta gearbox at a mileage of 50,000 km

According to the manual, the oil in a manual transmission should be changed every 70,000 kilometers or after 5 years of operation, whichever comes first.

With an automatic transmission, the situation is different; the manufacturer assures that the transmission fluid poured there is designed for the entire period of use of the car. However, as follows from practice, you have to change the oil there too, at least after 80,000-100,000 kilometers, or 5-7 years of operation.

Which oil should you choose?

By referring to the same vehicle instructions, you can find out that for replacement in a manual transmission, the manufacturer recommends semi-synthetic motor oil Lukoil TM-4 75W-90 GL-4 (The viscosity class may vary depending on the region in which the car is operated).

Also, some analogues have been certified:

  • Kinetic (Rosneft) 80W-85.
  • Translux (Tatneft) TM 4-12 - 75W-85.
  • Trans KP (NovOil) 80W-85.
  • Shell Spirax S5 ATE 75W-90.
  • TNK Trans KP SUPER 75w-90.

One of the most common gearbox oil options is TNK Trans KP SUPER 75w-90

Please note that the viscosity grade of each brand may also change depending on the weather conditions in the region where the vehicle is used.

Filling with new oil

With an automatic transmission, everything is stricter; here the manufacturer has set strict limits and encourages you to adhere only to them. Genuine EJ-1 ATF oil was filled from the factory

* or
Nissan ATF Matic-S
; which should be filled during subsequent replacement.

*Oil manufacturer is JX Nippon Oil and Energy Corporation.

Which oil is best to fill according to the regulations?

The standard manual does not say what kind of oil to fill in a Granta box with a cable drive. The answer is in the instructions included with other cars also equipped with the “2181” box. Here is the list:

  • G-BOX EXPERT – 80W85, 75W90
  • Gazpromneft – 80W90, 80W85
  • TNK TRANS KP – 80W85
  • TNK TRANS KP SUPER – 75W90
  • LUKOIL TM-4 – 75W85, 75W80, 80W85, 75W90, 80W90
  • ROSNEFT KINETIC (Angarsk) – 80W85
  • ROSNEFT KINETIC (Novokuibyshevsk) – 80W85 (GL-4), 75W90 (GL-4/GL-5)
  • TATNEFT TRANSLUX TM-4-12 – 75W85
  • SHELL: SPIRAX S5 ATE or TRANSAXLE OIL – 75W90 (GL-4/GL-5)

If the quality class is not specified, the material complies with GL-4 standards.

Quality class “GL-5” has its own characteristics. With material of this class, gears are better preserved rather than synchronizers.

We focus on temperature

When choosing oil for the box, use the table:

  • Range “-12 – +50 Gr. C" – 85W90
  • «-26 – +45» – 80W90
  • «-26 – +35» – 80W85
  • «-40 – +35» – 75W80 or 75W85
  • «-40 – +45» – 75W90

The viscosity grade is indicated on the right.

Common mistakes

  • There is no need to chase the “GL-5 quality class”. When using oils of this class, gears are better preserved, but the durability of synchronizers is reduced. The reason is the presence of “additives” and “supplements”.
  • Decide when to change the oil in the Lada Granta box. The winter replacement option is not the best. Oil thickens in the cold, but we don’t need that.
  • You need to warm up the box while moving. There is an option “gas to the floor while standing in neutral,” but it is very ineffective.

Replacement frequency

The AvtoVAZ company has established clear oil change regulations that all Lada Granta owners must follow, regardless of the year of manufacture of the car. So, the replacement period is 70 thousand kilometers, and can only differ downwards. If the replacement is postponed until a later date, then you are guaranteed to encounter transmission failures. As for more frequent oil changes (before 70 thousand km), in this case it all depends on the operating conditions. There are so-called risk factors in which the oil will definitely have to be changed more often. Let's highlight some of them:

  • Frequent driving on bad and dusty roads, including off-road, which is not provided for by the vehicle’s capabilities
  • Regular driving at high speeds, sudden maneuvers, non-compliance with traffic regulations, including aggressive driving style
  • Constant temperature changes, rapid climate change, dirt and slush on the roads
  • The driver makes mistakes in shifting gears, and as a result, it overheats

This is not to say that the Lada Granta is not at all suitable for such conditions. Russian owners sometimes have to subject their car to high loads, given difficult climatic conditions. But it must be borne in mind that this will negatively affect the beneficial properties of the oils. As stated above, it will become unusable ahead of schedule. Therefore, it would be advisable to reduce the replacement frequency by two or three times - for example, change the oil every 50 or 40 thousand kilometers.

In addition, it would be a good idea to check the level and condition of the fluid in a timely manner so that you can make a timely replacement.

How much to fill

At the end of the article, we will consider one of the most important points - how much oil to fill in the Lada Granta gearbox. As you know, in the case of a manual transmission, the model in question is equipped with two types of gearboxes - with a cable drive and also with a traction drive. In the first case, the box needs 2.3 liters, while the second option consumes 3.1 liters of lubricant.

It should be borne in mind that the specified volume of oil is introduced after the procedure for completely cleaning the manual transmission from old oil, as well as various impurities and sediments. This task can be performed in a garage environment.

Let's briefly consider the procedure:

  • Old oil is drained
  • Flushing agent is poured in
  • The engine turns on and the oil is circulated throughout the transmission. At this stage, you can drive a little to better circulate the oil through the system.
  • Turn off the engine, drain the used flushing
  • Filling with new oil
  • The final stage is to check the liquid level with a dipstick.

What indicates the need for replacement

You can determine that it’s time to change the oil in a “Granty” gearbox with a cable drive and another type of gearbox by the number of kilometers driven or by noticeable deterioration in the behavior of the car:

  • the appearance of extraneous noise (the gearbox begins to hum while driving);
  • heaviness of gear shifting;
  • overheating of the transmission box.

Control hole of the Granta checkpoint

It is recommended to evaluate the condition of the oil every 15 thousand km. An update will also be required when the liquid turns black or has inclusions in the form of metal shavings.
