The engine is an important part of any car. The most significant procedure for him is changing the oil, this is especially important in a car like the Renault Daster. Timely oil changes in Renault Duster contribute to long-term engine operation. Now is the time to find out how this procedure is performed and when?
What kind of oil to pour into the Renault Duster engine was discussed in the previous article.
When is an oil change required?
If you believe the regulations, then an engine oil change on a Renault Duster, and on many other cars, should be done every 15 thousand kilometers.
When changing the oil, the filter must also be changed.
In addition, the motor can be subjected to this procedure when flushing. Many people mistakenly believe that, having turned black ahead of time, it has lost its properties and is no longer suitable for use. In fact, this is an indicator that the lubricant copes well with its cleaning functions. In addition to mileage, there is a service life, after which it is also necessary to replace the lubricating component. This period is equivalent to 12 months. It is believed that after a year of operation, even if the car was rarely used, it is considered no longer suitable. However, it is recommended to do this after 6 months, during the transition to winter or summer.
How important is timely replacement?
Since the lubricant performs cleaning functions, over time it collects dirt particles and chips formed during engine operation. All these elements fall into the engine sump and only a few of them mix with the lubricating fluid and also continue to circulate throughout the inside of the engine. Moving along the channels, the chips scratch metal parts, which is especially dangerous for cylinders, when good sealing of the combustion chamber and crankcase is necessary for compression. All kinds of scuffing lead to a decrease in compression, and the resulting chips clog into the small channels of the pump, making it difficult to operate. That is why it is necessary to promptly change it in the power unit. Another reason is the loss of its properties as a result of frequent exposure to temperature changes, various engine operating modes, as well as other factors affecting the chemical composition of the lubricant. It is important that the oil change on Duster is carried out in a timely manner to avoid negative consequences.
What functions does motor oil perform?
Motor oil is an intermediate link between the mechanical elements of different power units of a car. It is much easier for them to interact with each other through lubricating fluid than through dry friction. In the latter case, the wear rate of parts increases sharply.
The liquid also creates a film on the metal parts of parts, which protects them from corrosion and minimizes the effect of chemically active substances.
Machine lubricant performs the following functions:
- Protection of elements from friction.
- Reduced losses due to the absence of dry friction.
- Protection against rust.
- Cooling of surfaces involved in the work process.
- Eliminate exposure to chemicals.
What is needed for replacement
In order for the engine oil change on a Renault Duster to be successful, you need to stock up on the necessary tools, as well as components. Among them it is worth noting:
- New oil
- Oil filter
- Filter puller
- Square key for 10
- Waste oil container
Use only original components. Lubricant should only be purchased from a reputable manufacturer that has the appropriate approvals. The volume is selected in accordance with the engine size. You can find out the required volume in the vehicle’s operating manual. The tool can be purchased at your nearest auto parts store. You can also buy an oil filter there, which should be designed specifically for your car. Almost all Renaults have a small volume filter, which is noticeably different from domestic filter elements. A 10 square wrench is needed to unscrew the drain plug. It is recommended to choose a larger size for ease of work.
Procedure for changing oil
To perform the work, you can use both a lift and an inspection pit. The car is driven onto a flat surface, and its power unit must be warmed up. After all, for a DIY oil change in a Renault Duster engine to be successful, you need the oil to drain as quickly as possible.
For more convenient access to the crankcase, we recommend removing the power unit protection. But this is optional.
The first step is to prepare a container for draining the used oil. To do this, place a container under the drain hole. Now you need to remove the oil filler cap to bleed the air from the oil system. You can also remove the dipstick to make draining easier, although this is not necessary. When servicing Renault, you need to follow the instructions, which state that in order to drain the oil from the crankcase, you need to unscrew the lower plug.
Unscrew the lower plug carefully, since the temperature of a warm engine heats up the oil, which often leads to burns. Therefore, if catching a cork is problematic, it is better to put it in a container and pull it out later.
While the oil is being drained, the Renault Duster oil filter is being changed.
To change the oil filter, remove the fuel rail protection.
First, try to grab it with your hands and twist it. If you cannot unscrew it by hand, then disconnect the negative terminal of the battery and put on the puller head. Disabling the terminal is necessary so as not to short-circuit the tool with the positive terminal of the starter, which is located next to the filter. Unscrew the filter and prepare a new one.
Lubricate the hole of the new filter with a small portion of oil so that the rubber is moistened. This is necessary in order to screw the filter element easier and also more tightly. Screw on the new filter and replace the drain plug.
The car is lowered and new lubricant is poured into the filler neck. During refueling, monitor the oil level so that it is between the min and max marks. As soon as the lubricant reaches the specified level, close the cap, install the dipstick and start the engine. Idling continues for two minutes. Now you can turn it off and check the oil level again. Since the lubricant has now flowed into all the channels, its level has dropped accordingly. Changing the oil is not complete without this, so you need to add more. Having leveled the oil level, you can safely put everything back together.
Changing the oil in the Renault Duster 1.6 and 2.0 engine Leave a comment
Good day to all! In this material you will learn how to change the oil in a Renault Duster engine. The procedure is not very complicated, so you can do it yourself without any problems. However, there are some subtleties, which will be discussed in detail in our article. But first things first. So, let's go.
How often should you change the oil in a Renault Duster engine?
In accordance with the regulations, the oil change in the Renault Duster engine must be performed after 15 thousand kilometers or after 12 months, whichever comes first.
However, it should be remembered that when operating a car in difficult conditions, it is necessary to reduce the engine oil change period to at least 10 thousand kilometers. By difficult conditions we mean using the car off-road, frequently towing a trailer, as well as the use of low-quality fuel or frequent driving in traffic jams or short distances with frequent stops and short warm-ups in the winter season.
When is it necessary to change the oil in a Renault Duster engine?
In principle, we do not need any specific tools to complete the work. A regular set of tools plus an 8″ square and an oil filter puller are sufficient. We need the latter for more convenient and quick filter removal. However, if it is not there, then you can do without it. You will also need a waste container with a volume of approximately 6 liters, a funnel and clean rags.
Don't forget also about new engine oil, a new oil filter and a drain bolt washer. As for oil, you should draw your attention to the fact that a 2.0L engine is filled with 5.4 liters of oil, and a 1.6L engine is filled with 4.8 liters. Therefore, before carrying out maintenance, pay attention to this so that you do not have to run to the store again when, during the filling process, it turns out that there is not enough oil. Again, these are service data, which in practice may differ slightly downward, since some of the oil will still remain in the engine, so the entire specified volume may not be included. We recommend using ELF Evolution SXR 5W30 oil.
Firstly, this is the oil that dealers use for official maintenance. Secondly, this is a trademark of the French company TOTAL, which has already proven itself well in the Russian market. Thirdly, the oil costs quite a lot of money and is available in convenient volumes of 1l, 4l and 5l. If anything, you can buy this oil from us - ELF 5W30 oil for RENAULT DUSTER.
The oil filter on DUSTER has the article number 7700 274 177. This is the same filter that is installed on Logan, Sandero, etc. You can also buy from us: SCT SM 142 buy.
The Renault Duster drain plug gasket has part number 8200641648. It must be changed after at least one engine oil change.
So, we’ve decided on the consumables, now let’s move on to changing the oil in the Renault Duster engine.
Changing the oil in the Renault Duster 1.6 and 2.0 engine - progress of work
Please note that all work on changing Renault Duster engine oil is carried out only on a warm engine. This is necessary so that the oil becomes more liquid and allows as much glass as possible to drain from the crankcase.
1. Warm up the engine and turn off the engine. Open the hood and go under the car.
2. To get to the oil filter, you need to remove either the engine protection or the fuel line protection. The second option will be convenient for those who do not have a hole in the garage. We took the first route and removed the motor protection. This is done simply - the fastening bolts around the perimeter of the protection are unscrewed and the armor remains in our hands. There is no point in talking about this in detail, since everything is really very simple.
3. Now we take the waste container and unscrew the drain plug using a tetrahedron to drain the waste from the engine. The old oil will drain out in about 5-10 minutes. After which you can screw the drain bolt into place, but first you need to replace the sealing washer with a new one. After which you need to remove the smudges from the crankcase with a clean napkin.
4. Unscrew the oil filter. This may require a special puller, but if you don’t have one, try unscrewing it by hand. If it doesn’t work out, just pierce the filter with a screwdriver and use the resulting lever to unscrew the filter. Be prepared for some more oil to drain out. So keep a waste container handy.
5. Wipe the filter seat. Lubricate the gasket of the new filter with oil and screw the filter itself into place. To properly screw the filter, you need to screw the filter until it comes into contact with the gasket and tighten it another 2/3 of a turn.
6. We install the protection in place in the reverse order and proceed to work under the hood.
7. Insert a funnel into the oil filler neck and add oil. We set the required level using the oil dipstick. This is done as follows. Fill the oil volume to the maximum mark. Then close the plug and start the engine. When the pressure lamp goes out, turn off the engine and wait for the oil to drain into the crankcase for 2-3 minutes. We check the level, which should be between the MIN and MAX marks.
That's all! At this point, the oil change in the Renault Duster engine can be considered complete. We also recommend watching a video on the topic, which we will add at the end of the article. And don't forget to read related articles:
