It doesn’t matter that the rear door handle is in the wrong place - in inclement weather, opening the trunk without getting your hands dirty will be problematic. The interior of the updated version has changed significantly - no continuity of generations is detected. That's probably good. At least for the reasons that the changes affected both the design as a whole and the quality of finishing materials. In some places, soft plastic is used, the panel elements fit almost flawlessly. Sadly, the hatchback comes to us with only one engine - a 1.6-liter gasoline “four” with a capacity of 106 horsepower. Automatic transmission, which, unfortunately, does not allow the car to quickly pick up speed (up to 100 km/h -13.9 seconds). With such an indicator, it is difficult for the automatic Megane III to fight for its place in the sun. And this is despite quite smooth gear changes and good noise and vibration insulation. With “mechanics” the dynamics are much more interesting.

Renault Megane is one of the best-selling French cars. Which, in general, is not surprising, because this car attracts and fascinates not only with its appearance, but also with well-thought-out ergonomics and special, “Megan” behavior on the road. Despite a few very simple interior details, it looks great, and it will be comfortable not only for the driver, but also for his passengers. The sedan layout has already become a classic, and such a car looks the most representative. This car may become the only one in the family, and although it will be difficult to take away your last harvest of root crops from the village in it, one must assume that this fact will not upset its owner one bit.

Due to their low cost, they work exclusively in conjunction with manual transmissions. For those who like it hotter, there is a version of the standard 1.2, boosted to 130 goals. In addition to increased power and dynamics, it has become possible to install a robotic gearbox, which will be extremely important for urban motorists. Top trim levels of Renault Megane boast a turbocharged 1.6-liter four, developing 280 Nm of torque and 205 hp. With such a herd under the hood, the car will be able to reach the first hundred in 7.4 seconds and accelerate to 230 kilometers per hour.
  • Renault Megane also boasts a wide range of diesel powertrains. Heavy fuel engines have always been famous for their efficiency and excellent traction at low speeds, which makes them an excellent choice for use in urban environments. Basic versions are upgraded with a 1.5-liter turbocharged four developing 90 or 110 horsepower. These are the most economical units in the line, the average fuel consumption will be only 3.7 liters of diesel fuel per hundred kilometers in the combined cycle. For those who like it hotter there is a more powerful option. This is a 1.6 liter engine developing 130 or 165 hp. Despite the increased dynamics (10.6 and 8.9 seconds, respectively), efficiency was practically unaffected - 4-4.7 liters per hundred under the same conditions.

Foreign factories where Renault Megane is made

Until recently, the Renault Megane hatchback was assembled in only three factories. They were located in France, Turkey and Spain. As you know, the most powerful enterprise is located in the city of Douai in France. But these models did not reach our market. The second best build quality is the plant in Valencia, Spain. From there we also saw some games. Mostly Turkish assemblers worked for our consumers.

Over the course of a year, the car was assembled in Russia, but our production “did not reach” European standards. Therefore, it was stopped.

Last year in Russia they began to assemble Renault Megane in Moscow.

Localization of production in the domestic market did not affect the cost of the model.

As a company representative said, this only reduced the time it takes to deliver finished cars to dealer showrooms across the country.

This fixation of cost is due to the fact that from the very beginning they planned to assemble the hatchback from us. Thus, the cost of it was made affordable and acceptable for the Russian consumer from the very beginning.

I was pleasantly pleased with the color scheme of the model. Some colors are only available to our customers. For example, “blue mineral” or “gray plate”. Therefore, rest assured that where the Renault Megane is assembled does not in any way affect its technical characteristics. The Russian layout is in no way inferior to its European counterpart.

The rear part received a line of continuation of the muscular swelling of the arches. Narrow, yet long LED headlights look great. In the middle they come down to the company logo. There is an impressive gap between the huge bumper and the trunk lid, which serves as the luggage compartment opening handle. A huge anti-wing was installed, equipped with an additional brake light. The bumper received relief shapes, plastic protection with reflectors and 1 chrome-plated exhaust pipe.

Design changes, of course, changed the dimensions compared to the previous generation:

  • length – 4359 mm;
  • width – 1814 mm;
  • height – 1447 mm;
  • wheelbase – 2669 mm;
  • ground clearance - 145 mm.

The dimensions of the sedan are slightly different, it is longer and slightly lower, the station wagon is accordingly even larger. The model is built on the CMF platform. There is a sports version, which has a different design, a different color - Iron Blue and improved technical characteristics.

New interior of Renault Megane 2021

Once inside, you realize that the future is already here. The designers created an interior that is radically different from others. This is a risky but necessary step. You immediately pay attention to the center console, it reminds you. An 8-inch touch screen is installed, which is responsible for everything, navigation, multimedia and climate. Below there are a couple of washers and a few buttons to control the most important functions.

In general, the interior looks expensive, it is trimmed in leather, equipped with chrome inserts and the build quality is also at an excellent level. If you look at the tunnel, it surprises you with a box with cup holders, as you have seen this on more expensive cars. There is also a visible electronic parking brake button, it looks really expensive.

The shape of the 3-spoke steering column decorated with chrome lines is attractive. Of course, the steering wheel is equipped with keys that allow you to control various systems without distraction. The instrument panel is divided into three wells, the central one is equipped with a tachometer and on-board computer display, the outer ones show the fuel level in the tank and oil pressure.

The presence of a projection on the windshield is surprising, since most competitors do not have it. The seats are mostly upholstered in fabric, but have leather inserts. Of course, they can be completely covered in leather, but for additional money. The seats are heated and have impressive lateral support.

The back row of the Renault Megane 2021 is not as spacious as we would like, but it’s enough. Three people can fit without problems. At the rear there is an armrest with cup holders and separate air deflectors.

The doors are beautifully decorated, look at the photo. The trunk volume of 550 liters is not bad, I’m glad that it is large in area, that is, you can put a lot of bags, everything will fit.

Gasoline

The line is equipped with 4 gasoline power units. They offer two 1.2-liter Energy TCe engines.

  1. The first produces 100 horsepower and 175 units of torque. There is no dynamics, so you can see the characteristics in the table above. Fuel consumption according to the manufacturer is 7 liters in the city. Since the unit is very weak, it will constantly have to be turned at high speeds, which leads to an increase in consumption.
  2. The second also turbocharged engine of the Renault Megane technically remains the same. Its power and torque were increased by 30 units. This resulted in a 2 second reduction in acceleration. Consumption decreased slightly, by 0.2 liters.

The second series of gasoline units has a volume of 1.6 liters. These are 4-cylinder engines with multipoint injection.

  1. The first produces 115 horsepower, accelerating the car to hundreds in 12 seconds. The torque is 156 H*m.
  2. The second is distinguished by the presence of a turbine, increasing power to 205 horsepower, torque has risen to almost 300. Acceleration to hundreds now takes 7 seconds, maximum speed has increased to 230 km/h. Consumption of 8 liters in the city sounds a little strange, although in quiet mode it is possible.

Diesel

These units have the same distribution scheme along the line. Motors with double boost, with Common Rail injection and DOHC timing belt. The units are turbocharged and have a volume of 1.5 liters.

  1. The first has only 90 horsepower and 220 units of torque. It will not surprise anyone with its dynamics, but its fuel consumption of only 4 liters of diesel fuel in the city will please you.
  2. The second version is slightly more powerful – 115 horsepower and 250 H*m of torque. The increase in power did not improve the driving dynamics in any way; fuel consumption also remained the same.

The second line of 4-cylinder diesel turbo engines with a volume of 1.6 liters and a direct injection system.

  1. The first such engine, Renault Megane 2018-2019, received 130 horsepower and torque of 320 units. Again, the dynamics are poor - the first hundred in 10 seconds, the maximum speed is 198 km/h. The manufacturer claims that the engine consumes about 5 liters of fuel in the city.
  2. The latest unit in the line is a copy of the previous one, its power is increased to 165 horsepower and torque to 380 units. Its dynamics are unknown, the manufacturer did not disclose the data.

Technical side

Although some experts criticize this car, the manufacturer managed to release a worthy product on the automobile market, which is prepared for serious competition. The car is available to buyers with front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive. The machine operates in three modes:

  • Lock
  • Auto
  • 2WD.

The engine range has not changed at all. As before, the crossover is available with a two-liter diesel engine and a 2.5-liter gasoline unit. The first power plant produces 173 horsepower, and the second 171 hp. The maximum speed of the Korean crossover is 190 kilometers. In just ten seconds you can accelerate the vehicle to the first hundred. The basic version of the “Korean” costs 1,059,000 rubles. Naturally, the more “stuffing” and bells and whistles, the more expensive this crossover will cost you.

Suspension and gearbox

These engines are equipped with a 6-speed manual transmission, and you can additionally install a 6-speed EDC robot. Power is transmitted only to the front axle; all-wheel drive vehicles are not offered.

The Megan platform - CMF involves installing the body on an independent MacPherson suspension at the front and a semi-independent beam system at the rear. The 4Control system makes the car fully steerable, meaning the rear wheels turn at speeds of up to 50 km/h, thereby improving handling. Initially, the system will be installed only on vehicles, after which they will also be installed on civilian cars.

The chassis also has stiffness settings; Sport, Normal, Comfort, Perso, Eco modes are available. The driver selects the modes directly using a button from inside the cabin.

Renault Megane price and configurations

Sales in Russia have not yet begun, so we cannot tell you the exact prices. At home, the car is sold at a cost of at least 19,200 euros. There are three configurations (Life, Zen and Business) characterized by the presence of various equipment.

Basic will receive:

  • air conditioner;
  • leather steering wheel;
  • 4.2-inch multimedia display;
  • window regulators;
  • 16th wheels, etc.

Other versions are equipped with a large number of features, and there are also additional options. The final version may receive the Advanced Driver Assistance Systems package, which implies the presence of a sign recognition system, lane control, blind spot monitoring and so on. Also, the model in the top version will receive a large 8-inch multimedia display, adaptive cruise control and 17-wheel drive.

The fourth generation Renault Megane 2018-2019 certainly turned out good, much better than its predecessor. It’s a pity that the car most likely will not be sold in our country due to the lack of localization of production and the economic situation.

THE END OF A GLORIOUS AGE

But how beautifully it all started! In November 1930, a new car assembly plant in Moscow began producing Ford A and Ford AA cars - first from American car kits, then switched to their analogues produced in Gorky. It changed names (KIM, MZMA, AZLK), but remained one of the symbols of the Soviet automobile industry.

In 1986, they mastered the production of the Moskvich-2141 car, the first and only class D hatchback. In Eldar Ryazanov’s film “The Forgotten Melody for the Flute,” a successful high-ranking official drove one. Can you imagine how this car was priced back then! Only his glory was short-lived. AZLK did not have its own engine production, and the equipment for the engine plant under construction, purchased for foreign currency, never began to work.
