Cabin layout and best seats on the Boeing 757-200

The Boeing 757-200 airliner was developed as a replacement for the Boeing 727 medium-range aircraft. Its operation began in 1983. The airliner was produced until 2005. Currently, the airliner is used by many airlines on routes that are not very busy, ranging from 3 to 7 thousand kilometers.

Boeing 757-200

A total of 1,050 of these aircraft were produced, including 80 Boeing 757-200 PF (cargo version). To date, several liners have been reconstructed for cargo transportation.

The only Russian large company operating the Boeing 757-200 is UTair (utair.ru). It currently has seven such aircraft in its fleet. Moreover, they all have a single-class cabin layout, that is, economy class. Previously, UTair transferred nine 757-200 charter aircraft.

Operates charter flights using 757-200, a small aircraft that is part of the Anex Tourism Group holding. This airline operates charter flights on the most popular tourist routes to various countries. Based in Domodedovo, the company, which began operating in 2014, carries out the majority of transportation from the cities of the Volga region and Siberia.

Description and characteristics

The Boeing 757-200 is used to cover long distances. It is equipped with a turbojet engine, so with an average load the aircraft can fly up to 7.2 thousand km. Although this model is considered obsolete, it is still used due to its unique parameters.

The aircraft's features include:

  • low noise level during flight;
  • high flight comfort;
  • low fuel consumption;
  • capacity: 238 seats installed, and there are also 2 seats for flight attendants;
  • high performance increases flight safety.

Attention! Since the release of Boeing, only 10 aircraft have been lost, with 7 plane crashes associated with terrorists and one airliner destroyed due to landing in adverse weather conditions.

History of creation

The Boeing 757-200 Azur Air has been produced by Boeing since 1982. This aircraft was intended to replace the outdated 727 line. The 757-200 modification is considered the most successful, although several new versions have already been released.

Boeing production ceased in 2004, but by that time the company had sold more than 1 thousand aircraft. It is this modification that is considered the safest, which is why some companies still use these liners.

Technical data

The Boeing 757-200 is a passenger aircraft used for medium or long-range routes.

Main parameters:

  • fuselage width - 3.7 m;
  • length – 47.3 m;
  • height – 13.6 m;
  • wingspan - 38 m;
  • accommodates from 200 to 238 people;
  • without loading the aircraft weighs 58 tons;
  • In one flight, about 7.2 thousand km are covered.

Attention! This modification is considered the safest of all aircraft in the world, and it was even purchased by the famous Russian one.

Engine

The Boeing 757-200 is equipped with a turbofan and dual-circuit engine. Its main advantage is efficiency.

But the equipment is characterized by significant weight and dimensions, which leads to an increase in the drag of the airliner during flight. The engine is used for commercial airliners designed for long or medium hauls.

Dimensions

The length of the Boeing is 47.3 m and the height is 13.6 m. The wing area is 185.2 sq. m. The wings are swept and equipped with a single fin.

Weight

The empty weight of the aircraft is 58 tons. The maximum take-off weight is 98.8 tons, and the maximum landing weight is 89.9 tons.

The commercial load should not exceed 25.9 tons.

Flight data

The flight range at maximum load is 5.5 thousand km. The maximum cruising speed is 850 km/h. The flight altitude reaches 12.5 km, and the take-off length is 2.3 km.

Passenger lounge

The number of seats is 238. The length of the cabin is 36.1 m and the width is 3.54 m.

History of creation

The development of the Boeing 757 airliner began in the late 70s as part of the development of a unified family of 7x7 aircraft. The aircraft was intended to replace the outdated 727 airliner and had many similarities in appearance with its predecessor. The first sketches included a tail with raised horizontal planes. But later this decision was abandoned in favor of the classic tail with a lower horizontal stabilizer.

The main goal of creating the airliner was to reduce the cost of air travel. To achieve this, the aircraft was equipped with a wing with a modernized profile, dual-circuit turbojet engines and an electronic flight system, which made it possible to optimize flight parameters.

Initially, it was planned to produce two versions of the machine - with a standard and shortened fuselage.

The Boeing 757-100 airliner with a short fuselage never reached production. The first orders for the aircraft, designated 757-200, were placed in late summer 1979.

The Boeing Corporation intended to equip Model 757 aircraft with Rolls-RoyceRB211 or GeneralElectricCF6 turbofan engines. However, the second supplier had difficulties with the development of the project, so it was replaced by Pratt & Whitney.

Construction of prototypes and testing, which began in February 1982, were successful. The first production aircraft arrived at EasternAirLines and took off in January 1983. The mid-range Boeing 757 remained on assembly lines until 2004. In total, the Boeing Corporation delivered to customers, as already mentioned, 1050 aircraft. These include 55 aircraft of the extended version of the Boeing 757-300, designed to carry 289 passengers.

Interior classification

The cabin layout and seating arrangement on a Boeing 757-200 aircraft depend on the specific model chosen by the carrier.

Attention! Russian carriers usually purchase models that have only one class with 40 lines.

Monoclass model

The most popular is the standard Boeing Azur Air. It is equipped with comfortable seats, but there are still some not the most attractive seats.

Therefore, the following nuances are taken into account:

  • seats 1A, 1B, 1C are located directly behind the partition of the pilot's cabin;
  • seats 2D, 2E and 2F are located next to the toilet;
  • The 9th line of seats has limitations, so it is not possible to fully recline the chair for relaxation;
  • The 10th row is considered the best choice, since there is a lot of space in front due to the presence of emergency exits;
  • seats 11 A and 11 F are comfortable for every passenger;
  • the designers did not provide for lines 13 and 17, which is due to superstitions;
  • The seats in the 19th row are considered uncomfortable, since the backrests are fixed by emergency exit hatches, and this also applies to the 20th row;
  • Row 21 is ideal for athletes, but these seats are only offered at the airport. The seats are located directly behind the hatches, here you can stretch your legs and there are no restrictions on the backrest.

Attention! Passengers are sure that the seats in the last line are the most uncomfortable.

Division into classes

There are Boeing 757-200 models divided into two service classes. Here the places are significantly different from other modifications. The first rows are represented by the first class cabin. They are located behind the kitchen, so passengers are offered a choice of several dishes.

After line 6, economy class begins, so on line 7 passengers encounter a lot of noise, but here you can stretch your legs and fully recline the seat. Business class seats are more comfortable.

In economy class, instead of a 2:2 scheme, a 3:3 scheme is used. Seats 22A, 22F, 23A and 23F are not suitable for passengers who want to look out of the windows, as they are covered by bulkheads. Beyond 25, you won’t be able to travel lying down, as there is an emergency exit nearby.

Interior layout VQ-BTB, VQ-BTR

40 rows, 235 seats in total.

757-200 VQ-BTB and VQ-BTR

Row 1 (DEF seats) as well as Row 2 (ABC seats). There is a little more legroom than on standard seats, and no one can recline the backrest for passengers (there is simply no one). The rest is all negatives. You will have to sit, looking at the wall, there are two whole toilets in front (which means constantly walking past, as well as the fact that you will have to listen to unpleasant sounds and inhale the corresponding odors). The tables are built into the armrests and are not adjustable.

Row 11. Consists of two pairs of seats (BC and DE) - and this is perfect for those traveling as a couple. There is a lot of legroom, and the person sitting in front won’t even be able to recline the seat. But you won’t be able to look out the windows (they are far away). The tables are located in the armrests.

Note! Do not forget about the restrictions that security requirements impose on those sitting at emergency exits. In particular, the rules regulate the categories of passengers who will be asked to change seats.

Row 12, seats A and F (at the windows). Those who occupy them are lucky - they can stretch their legs. True, the emergency exit door bulges inward somewhat.

Row 30. The seat backs do not recline because there are two toilets in the back. Therefore, these places can be considered one of the worst - streams of people will constantly pass by, and it will not be possible to avoid the sounds and smells.

Row 31. On one side there are emergency exits and significantly increased legroom. On the other hand, there are tables in the armrests, and most importantly, toilets.

Row 40. Six more bad seats - the backs do not recline, there is service equipment in the back. But the armrests are fine.

Interior layout

The pattern varies significantly between Boeing 757-200 flights. The exact layout is chosen by company representatives, and differences exist even among aircraft owned by the same airline. Therefore, before purchasing tickets, it is recommended to check the tail number.

How to choose the right place

On an Azure Air Boeing 757-200, the cabin layout and best seats can vary significantly, but there are several factors that can help you find the perfect seat:

  • seats next to the windows allow you to admire the beautiful view during the flight, but when visiting the toilet you will have to disturb your neighbors;
  • Aisle seats are suitable for people who have to constantly get up or go to the toilet;
  • the middle seat is usually chosen by people flying in the same group;
  • if a person does not tolerate shaking well and wants to be the first to get off the plane, seats located in the bow are selected;
  • First class rows are more comfortable, with 180° seat backrests and plenty of room to stretch your legs, but the cost of such a flight will be higher.

Attention! For passengers with small children or disabled people, special seats are offered, equipped with child seats or other necessary devices.

Best places to fly

To make your flight comfortable and enjoyable, it is advisable to purchase tickets for the following seats:

  • The right seats in the first row are considered the best choice, as you can easily stretch your legs and get privacy from other passengers, but the downside is the presence of fixed tables that narrow the width of the seat;
  • in row 12, the three left seats are an attractive option, since the emergency exit is located at the rear, so there are no passengers on that side;
  • Row 32 is considered a good choice, since there are no neighbors in front, and the toilet is located at a significant distance, which allows you to fully relax;
  • for singles or couples, the 11th row, represented by two chairs, is ideal;
  • The 28th row is considered convenient, since there is a lot of space until the next row.

If you have the financial means, it is recommended to purchase business class seats.

What places are considered bad?

The following places are considered inconvenient:

  • seats located next to the toilet or in the tail of the plane, since the backrests are not adjustable;
  • in 8 D, E, F it is impossible to adjust the backrest, since the toilet is located behind the partition;
  • 9 A, B, C has a limited tilt angle, which impairs flight comfort;
  • Row 40 is the last, so it has seats without reclining backs.

Some airlines sell tickets for uncomfortable seats at a reduced price.

In Russia

In our country, the Boeing 757 200er is constantly operated by several airlines. Most of them are focused primarily on charter flights. These are Azur Air (formerly Katekavia), VIM-avia, ifFly, Royal Flight, as well as Yakutia (in a cargo version).

On a note. Each airline chooses for itself the version of the “two hundredth” that best suits its needs. As examples of the layout, you can use one of the Russian charter companies (albeit not the largest).

Accidents and disasters involving the Boeing 757-200

Until 2020, only 10 aircraft were lost, and this was due to serious accidents or disasters. They tried to hijack the Boeing 12 times, which led to the death of 108 people. A total of 575 people died in the incidents.

Interior layout VQ-BTN, VQ-BTM

There are 230 seats in total and 39 rows (but the last one is No. 40, since there is no eighth).

757-200 VQ-BTN and VQ-BTM

There are only two seats in row 9 (DE) . Spacious, but the porthole is far away.

Row 10 (seats ABC and F) also with increased legroom. The outer seats (A and F) may be a little cramped due to the design of the exit door).

Row 18 . The seat backs do not recline; there are emergency exits behind them.

Row 40 . The backrests do not recline, and there are toilets in the back.

VQ-BLB layout

Total - 238 places. The total number of rows is 41 (but the numbering is up to 41st, since row 11 is missing).

752-200 VP-BLB

Row 1 (with increased legroom, in front of the wall) is fully present. There is one bathroom in the nose, opposite the kitchen.

Row 12. There is plenty of room for your legs - after all, there are emergency exits nearby. Moreover, the seats are installed in pairs (BC and DE).

Row 13, places A and F. There are portholes nearby, and you can stretch out comfortably.

To choose the best seats, consult with airline managers

Today, Boeing 757 aircraft are operated by many Russian airlines. Among them are Vim Avia, Nord Wind, Yakutia and others.

Each airline, as part of improving the level of customer service, posts on its websites detailed information about the design features of the vessel, the duration and features of the flight, and the possibilities of obtaining additional services on board the aircraft. The airline's website contains, in addition to a general description of the Boeing 757 aircraft, a diagram of the cabin. Vim Avia, for example, advises passengers who do not like to get into an annoying line at the check-in counter to choose the first row, because in this case they have the opportunity to leave the cabin first when disembarking.

In terms of service, the first row also benefits, since passengers sitting in this row receive food and drinks first. But even here there may be certain inconveniences due to the proximity to the restrooms, besides, the legs rest against a solid partition, it is not possible to stretch them out.
