The Nissan Beetle is the most popular and commercially successful car in its class. The crossover won the hearts of domestic motorists with its efficiency - Nissan Beetle fuel consumption per 100 km is approximately 6 liters in a mixed driving cycle
. Naturally, official figures may differ from real ones, but if you drive carefully, the difference will be small.
basic information
The first Nissan Juke model was released in 2009, and since then has been in great demand. Today there are many modifications of this car, but they all have excellent technical characteristics. Later models are equipped with a more powerful gearbox and take less time to accelerate. By the way, the fuel consumption of the Nissan Zhuk depends on these characteristics.
Engine | Consumption (highway) | Consumption (city) | Consumption (mixed cycle) |
1.6 (94 hp, gasoline) 5-mech, 2WD | 5 l/100 km | 7.5 l l/100 km | 6 l/100 km |
1.6 (117 hp, gasoline) 5-mech, 2WD | 5.3 l/100 km | 8.1 l/100 km | 6.3 l/100 km |
1.6 (petrol) 6-mech, 2WD | 5.6 l/100 km | 9.1 l/100 km | 6.9 l/100 km |
1.6 (petrol) 7-var 4×4 | 6 l/100 km | 10.2 l/100 km | 7.6 l/100 km |
Each model has a more advanced engine, the power and displacement of which affect the gas mileage of the Nissan Juke. The newer it is, the higher the fuel costs. The car picks up speed in fewer seconds, but in return consumes more fuel. There are both pros and cons to everything.
If we take into account that even the real fuel consumption of the Nissan Beetle is not as high as that of many other cars, then it becomes clear why this particular make and model is so popular among foreign car owners.
Fuel consumption Nissan Beetle 1.6 automatic and manual reviews
By admin Posted on 15/07/2016
The compact crossover Nissan Juke is deservedly considered one of the most unusual and commercially successful cars in its class. First presented in 2009 at the Geneva Motor Show, it appeared in showrooms in 2010 and was received with a bang by the audience.
The Nissan Beetle was offered with three 1.6-liter gasoline engines: two naturally aspirated and a 1.6-liter turbocharged engine, as well as a turbodiesel. Transmission options include five- and six-speed manuals, as well as two CVTs.

Nissan Juke 94 hp
The base engine of the Nissan Beetle is a derated version of the HR16DE engine, developing a power of 94 hp. and a torque output of 128 Nm. This power unit is equipped only with a 5-speed manual transmission and is installed only on budget trim levels.

- Ilya, Syzran. I have extensive experience in operating a car - it’s easier to say which cars I haven’t driven. I purchased the Beetle in 2014, in the XE configuration - with a 94 hp engine. This is the richest package. As a jeep, it is nothing - the ChevyNiva is much cooler in off-road ability. The engine is also rather weak - you need to turn it up to 3500 rpm, and if you turn on the Conder, it really doesn’t pull and eats fuel. That’s why my consumption is so high – on average it’s 8.5-9 liters, and if purely in urban mode – even more.
- Kirill, St. Petersburg. I bought a Beetle for my daughter - I wouldn’t sit on it in my life, it’s kind of awkward, but she’s delighted. I didn’t really want to spoil it, so I chose the version with the simplest engine and mechanics, although my daughter was begging for an automatic. She is happy with everything, but I’m not very happy - I drove this Pepelats a couple of times and understood why she is constantly begging for money for gasoline - its consumption in the city is more than 10 liters, on my Toyota with a 2.0 engine less.
Nissan Beetle 117 hp
The most popular Nissan Juke is the HR16DE four-cylinder naturally aspirated engine, which produces a full 117 horsepower and a torque of 158 Nm. It is offered with both a five-speed manual transmission and an Xtronic® CVT.
Real reviews of fuel consumption per 100 km Nissan Juke 117 hp
- Ivan, Kemerovo. When choosing a car, I considered exclusively crossovers and SUVs with high ground clearance, since in winter I often could not even leave the yard. In principle, the car is not bad, but there are some drawbacks. There are no complaints about the engine - it starts in winter without problems, the consumption is reasonable - 10 liters in the city, -7 on the highway.
- Vitaly, Novosibirsk. Nissan Juke, 1.6AT 117 hp, 2013 I have long respected Nissans, which is why I chose the Beetle. I liked the high ground clearance (although it is of no use off-road), a good high-torque engine with an average consumption of 8.5 liters per hundred square kilometers. PS – he’s really cool.
- Victoria, Moscow. I saw it in the salon and fell in love at first sight. Small, compact, but at the same time very comfortable and playful. Plus - a beautiful red color. Consumption is not bad - on average 7.5 liters per hundred, but it can be more - after all, Moscow.
- Gennady, Kharkov. First, I bought a car for my wife in 2013, so a model with a CVT was chosen. But six months later I crashed my X-Trail and had to borrow it from my wife while I sorted out insurance. What can I say - after the X-Trail it is nothing in terms of cross-country ability, but it has low fuel consumption. With an engine of 117 horses, in the city I got 8.5 liters per hundred meters, and on the highway - from 5 to 5.5 liters.
- Andrey, Ishim. What’s interesting is that at first my wife and I planned to buy some kind of family car, such as a Fiata Doblo or a Citroen Berlingo. But we saw the Beetle in the showroom and got excited - it’s much more interesting in person than in the photo. In terms of operation - compact, starts easily even in cold weather, pulls normally (but you need to turn it up to 3500 rpm), economical - average gasoline consumption is 8.2 liters.
- Bogdan, Simferopol. The first car was a Nissan Almera, after it was sold they decided to go with Nissan and chose the Beetle. CVT, engine 117 hp. s and LE trim. There are no particular complaints, nor any delight. High ground clearance (rules in winter), the variator only pleases, the consumption is low from 8 to 11 liters - well, if I’m running around in Alushta or Simeiz, there I’m always uphill or downhill. But the trunk is too small and the engine lacks power when overtaking and traction at the bottom.
- Denis, Vladimir. Nissan Beetle 2014, front-wheel drive, 117 horsepower engine and CVT. I've owned it for a year, I've clocked 22,000 miles on it. What can I say - the car is not bad, but it could be better. Cheap trim, even though I have the LE trim, rear space is limited and the trunk is small. Although the engine is not bad and the variator works great. In the city in winter it comes out to no more than 11 liters, on the highway - about 7, but I like to “turn the revs”, I drive at 120-130 km/h.
Nissan Juke 190 hp
The supercharged MR16DDT engine with sequential direct injection and a volume of 1618 cm3 is the most powerful of the gasoline units that are installed on the Nissan Beetle. It develops 190 hp. and a torque of 240 Nm and is offered with a new six-speed manual transmission and Xtronic® CVT-M6 CVT with optimized gear ratios. The version with this engine is offered only with all-wheel drive.

- Fedor, Khabarovsk. Driving experience 10 years. I bought the car new - I don’t like playing car mechanic. I chose the Beetle in the SV2 configuration, with a turbocharged engine, CVT and all-wheel drive. In principle, I am happy with everything, except for a couple of exceptions. The engine is powerful, and the consumption is low - 15 liters for 200 horses in the city is not much.
- Anastasia, Novosibirsk. I’m a fan of the Japanese car industry and definitely with an automatic – I don’t consider manuals on principle, because... an automatic machine for a big city is just right. I bought a new Nissan Juke from the showroom, SE +SPORT equipment, with a turbo engine. Lots of useful features, powerful motor, very easy to park due to its size. And the consumption is small - only 10 liters on average.
- Alexey, Khabarovsk. When my wife saw a red Beetle in the salon, she ate my whole brain. In general, I collected some money and decided to buy it for her. At first I considered the basic configuration, but then it so happened that I realized that I would also have to drive it and chose the version with a turbocharged engine and a six-speed manual. I didn’t take all-wheel drive - I don’t see the point, it’s not a jeep anyway. The engine power is enough to drive normally on the highway and confidently overtake. I've already driven 15 thousand - no problems. Consumption - on the highway if you heat it, it is of course high, but in economy mode for 90 km - no more than 9 liters. In the city it goes up to 14, but this is in winter.
Nissan Beetle 200 hp
The sports version of the Nissan Juke Nismo is equipped with a 1.6-liter turbocharged engine. Unlike the MR16DDT, it develops 200 horsepower and has a torque of 250 Nm. The Nismo version is available with both a six-speed manual and a six-speed CVT.

- Andrey, Moscow. I saw some unusual version of the Nissan Beetle in the cabin - a slightly different body kit, a slightly different spoiler, a different radiator grille and wider wings. I asked the manager - it turned out that this was a sports version of the Beetle, with a more powerful engine and design. I was just about to buy myself some kind of crossover, but I wanted it to be playful - that’s why I chose this version of the Beetle. So far I haven’t been traveling much - only 5 months, but the impressions are only positive. In terms of consumption, in the city I have 15-16 liters, which I think is quite a bit for an engine of 200 mares. If outside the city - then 10-12, when I top 130 -150 km/h.
Data Comparison
The average consumption of the Nissan Juke per 100 km, according to the figures on official websites, is about 7 liters
. On the one hand, this is not much, but there are several factors that affect fuel consumption:
- this is the driving mode (city, highway or mixed);
- external conditions (air temperature, time of year);
- driver's driving style.
The first point is clear. The fuel consumption rate of the Nissan Juke on the highway, regardless of the model, is about 6 liters
. This is due to the fact that there are no stops, the driver drives smoothly, without sudden braking or sudden acceleration. This greatly affects fuel costs: if you want to save on gasoline, you will have to stop driving and switch to a quieter ride. The engine does not need to idle, which also saves gasoline.
Fuel consumption on a Nissan Beetle in the city is much higher, precisely because of the presence of all these nuances. High traffic density, constant forced stops, all this leads to the fact that in urban mode the Nissan Beetle consumes from 7.5 to 10 or even more liters of gasoline.
Average consumption according to passport data
Over the entire production period, the Juke was equipped with different engines, but only one option was presented on the Russian market, with a volume of 1.6 liters. The performance of such a gasoline power unit differed, depending on the configuration, by more than 2 times:
- The “junior” engine, installed on the basic versions of the crossover, received a power of only 94 hp. s., although it was enough to accelerate to 168 km/h. The engine version was equipped with a 5-speed manual transmission. And the rated fuel consumption per 100 km is 6.0–6.1 liters for mixed mode;
Rice. 2. Engine compartment of the crossover.
- the second most efficient power unit has a capacity of 117 hp. With. and works in tandem with a manual transmission or a CVT, depending on the year of manufacture. It consumes, on average, about 6.3 liters, regardless of transmission;
- an even more productive version, developing up to 190 hp. pp., spends about 7.4 liters of gasoline for every 100 km in mixed mode;
- the top version of the engine has a power of 200 hp. s., and its consumption, depending on the gearbox, is 6.9–7.6 liters.
After restyling in 2014, the picture remained virtually unchanged, and the 2017 versions were no longer distinguished by technical parameters, but by their equipment with modern electronics. Although one of the top trim levels of the Nismo RS received a boosted engine with 214 hp. With. Its consumption, despite the CVT, does not exceed 7.2 liters in mixed mode. Another engine whose performance has increased to 218 hp. pp., works in tandem with a “mechanics” and spends 7.4 liters.

How to reduce fuel consumption
But don't despair. To reduce the fuel consumption of a Nissan Juke by 100 km you need to follow a few simple rules
.
- As mentioned above, stick to a more restrained driving style.
- During the cold season, try to leave your car in warmer rooms. This will allow you to spend less time warming up the engine and, as a result, saves fuel.
- Use only high-quality fuel. It lasts much longer than a cheap fake.
- Monitor the condition of your car: the presence of any breakdowns requires more fuel consumption.
- Have your vehicle inspected at a service station on time and replace worn or outdated parts.
By following all these simple rules, you will be convinced that all the negative reviews about the real fuel consumption of the Nissan Zhuk per hundred kilometers are simply complaints from inept drivers.
