Good day to all! And happy holidays, because there were many of them. I bought the Legacy Outback when it was a cold winter. Then I tested the car in practice. In some ways it showed good results, but in others it was very disappointing. Because you usually expect something extraordinary. The most important thing is one that will satisfy your needs in everything. I didn’t agree that the climate had overheated me. My psyche really became unsettled there, and recently I turned off this option altogether. Just imagine, because of this unit I got a sore throat in the summer. This is because there are such currents and jets of cold air that only cause harm. I had no problems with the engine, it pulls and runs great. Good quality of interior trim and bodywork itself. Already at this moment, knocking noises are heard in the front suspension due to misunderstandings. It looks like you'll have to replace the silent blocks. The most popular consumable material is wheels. Because they quickly wear out with our sandpaper roads. And most importantly, wear is not uniform, which means not everyone is killed. But you have to change all four wheels at once. Apparently, not everything is good with the disks and will soon require replacement. The suspension is really stiff, it just rolls out when cornering, but it jumps over bumps and everything in the cabin. Or rather, I experience all the blows on my own skin. I didn’t feel the all-wheel drive at all, although it is praised from all sides. However, I immediately sat down in the mud when I went fishing after a little rain. So much for all-wheel drive! Due to the fact that it didn’t get out, I had to call a tow truck. What’s funny is that only one wheel was stuck, and so deeply... and at the same time, only the stuck wheel received torque. All the other wheels were dead weight. The only conclusion that comes to mind is that she will be fine where we Russians are not. Perhaps, for the roads of Japan and Europe, this is a premium car, but only a ZIL dump truck can cope with our roads!

I was interested in everything, from good to bad. Of course, in order to understand what kind of car I want. Honestly, while I was under euphoria and impressions, I didn’t want to write any review. Now the ardor has subsided, now I can see clearly with my own eyes. But I want to get ahead and say that the past period of operation did not disappoint me one bit. The main criteria that guided my choice of transport were, of course, interior comfort. It is also necessary that the chassis be strong and at a reasonable price. You can say that I got everything at once and with some extra stuff. In addition, she is not at all whimsical in maintenance. When choosing, I also paid attention to the appearance, I really liked it. In order to be more confident in my choice, I, of course, decided to try and watch it all. I really liked the seat position and the visibility. All panel trim is made of soft plastic (almost leather). The steering wheel and seats are also made of leather. The salon is so spacious that it made my head spin. After all, I’m still not used to such machines. Everything inside is ergonomic and comfortable, the most pleasant atmosphere. As for the engine, I immediately decided to opt for the 3.0. And quickly enough, that is, I made the right choice. After the purchase, I took it for inspection, although it was a little scary. But in the end everything turned out better than I expected. I didn't change anything except the oil and filters. To at least start this page with a clean slate. Investments were also made in new tires. If you calmly assess the situation, then the car was really made for a comfortable life. It is quite soft to drive, everything is available and the chairs have a wide range of adjustments. Normal and standard music, as well as the notorious soundproofing. Which is mentioned in almost every review. She seemed normal enough to me. Well, a very spacious interior and with extra space for the trunk. Cool engine sound, sometimes you are driven to the point of just listening to it. With a power of 245 hp. I always feel playful, and the speed doesn’t drop under load either. It holds the road very tenaciously, it stands as if glued. And even up to 140 km/h you don’t feel the speed at all. Of course, the car is far from small, but its size is easily felt. And this does not prevent it from climbing curbs and driving around all sorts of bumps. There is also a good high ground clearance. Consumption in the city on average in summer is 11.5 liters and on the highway 8.5. I always like working with the on-board computer on the panel. And it will show you the average fuel consumption, and instantaneous. Will highlight the entire power reserve and outside temperature. Powerful climate control, copes with the task at 100%. The seats fold into the floor without any problems, making excellent sleeping places. I would add doors without window frames as a difference and plus. After I sold the Ford Mondeo, I knew exactly what to buy this time. Because I dreamed of a Subaru for a long time. I've been eyeing this turbo miracle for a long time, but I just didn't have enough money. When I bought it, I couldn’t get enough of it; after all, when you get closer to your dream, you can’t believe it for a long time. According to the technical data, I decided to go with the 2.0 TD, although it’s less than the 3.0, it pulls well. Moreover, everything about it was not bad for me. After the purchase, I didn’t hesitate to take her for diagnostics and prof. inspection. Of course, in some places we noticed shoals and adjustments to the left wing. Overall, the car was in good condition and only needed loving hands. The equipment was fully assembled, the engine seemed reliable at first glance. I already knew that Subarov engines are reliable and powerful. Despite the fact that the suspension is stiff, at the same time it is quite durable with an LSD axle. All-wheel drive is in harmony with all axles and wheels, traction is distributed 50/50. Another nice feature of the overall package was the perforated leather seats. The front seats are also electrically adjustable. There are a bunch of different settings, and I figured it out right away. And in addition to everything, there is very good lateral support. The salon is large and roomy, not just a sticky place. Even the back rows are spacious without being cramped; tall people will sit comfortably. To all this you can add a good trunk, which is also roomy. The package also includes a sunroof and heated mirrors and windshield. Good climate control and multifunction steering wheel (great option). The on-board computer is convenient with a lot of settings and a wide screen. There is standard navigation, you just need to flash it to navigate our area. The sedan-type body design is very well thought out. But frameless windows do not provide any useful functions other than aesthetic appearance. Only when accelerating is a whistle heard, even with the seal present. Condensation also constantly accumulates, which in some places leads to corrosive destruction of the door structure. It handles turns amazingly, and it is precisely because of the rigid suspension that it does not roll when turning and holds confidently. However, it has its own weaknesses, this is capriciousness towards oil and fuel. I use only environmentally friendly and certified products. Of the fuels, 95th is the best absorbed. Consumption is 15-20 liters in the city and 9-13 on the highway. During operation of the machine, of course, breakdowns or weakening of spare parts occur. The weak link is the clutch and everything connected to it. This time I installed the reinforced version, which is of course more expensive. But they assured me that it would last a long time. I personally am satisfied with the car in everything. Both for its dynamics and the fact that it has all-wheel drive with maneuverability. The controls are also excellent.

It is, of course, large and roomy, easy to control and even maneuverable. But it can only claim second place in the garage. That is, not as the main transport, because the embellishment of our roads is not for Subaru. She prefers tracks with new surfaces, or racing roads are great. In our case, this is only for relaxation or outings with the family on some excursions. At the same time, you can have it in stock, but only when funds allow it. Since it requires a lot for its maintenance, and the consumption is decent. Frequent changes of consumables make you think about the feasibility of owning such a machine. I also didn’t like the climate control, as if it was from another opera. The reason the car fell back to second place was the suspension. Which with its rigidity only causes problems. However, not everything is so bad, for some Legacy is an indispensable assistant, I have met such people. Therefore, before making any conclusions about your purchase, look at different reviews. For me, this is how you can do a whole series of my reviews about Subaru and its engine. Personally, I am delighted with this car and once again I am convinced that time has no power over some things. For example, the fact that each version of the Legacy Outback is a whole story. So it was this time, when I switched to the same version, but in the third generation. I even liked this 3.0-liter engine more, although in some areas it simply lost ground. Before that, I was somehow content with a less powerful engine, because I believed that the drive in this car should be in balance. This time the thirst for risk and new sensations simply exceeded. Today, for two years now, I have had the opportunity to test power up to 245 hp. For me, it’s like a story of evolution, which moves towards its progress with each year of release. What can I really say?! In principle, the picture is already clear, because my mileage of two years can be considered significant. So, the dynamics of the engine are similar in all its features to a turbo engine. And the first obvious sign is that it begins to fire better after 3000 rpm. One thing I can say about gas mileage is that this car is simply gluttonous. If you take it at full capacity, then up to 20 liters per 100 km/h. Well, if you stop at the average level, then about 15-16 liters per 100. Children probably know about sensitive perception of fuel quality. It’s like the manual, only 95th. But I won’t hide the fact that sometimes I sin with the 92nd. However, if we talk about serious estimates, then at the maximum load, and even at a speed of 140-160 km/h. This engine is just a beast, besides, it’s only 12 liters, and that’s right to the eyeballs. That's why I'm talking about efficiency. You can’t rely on the computer’s indicators, because it lies upward. Therefore, it is better to take readings in competent places. It’s worth mentioning the oddities that I noticed in these versions. When there is already noticeable freezing outside, when starting, the car vibrates a little. But then not a trace remains of this feeling. In terms of reliability, so that no one jinxes it, I can say one thing, I was lucky. In general, they tell anyone, whose engine flies in the early stages and is no longer repairable. Luckily, I haven't encountered anything like this. In terms of maintenance, I’ll take the liberty of comparing it with the 2.5 engine. Of course, the costs are significantly higher, and the repair itself is larger. The same oil costs an order of magnitude higher along with consumables. We only have to agree that a good horse should be loved accordingly. Therefore, I do everything possible to keep my horse healthy and in excellent condition. After all, such cars love to be properly cared for. Everything else is a godsend for the driver who knows a lot about a good unit.

First I had a Forester, then I got behind the wheel of a Legacy Outback. At their core, all these cars are excellent. I didn’t feel a significant difference, only additional capabilities. Of course, a diesel engine and the same all-wheel drive were preferable. Engine power 2.0 – 150 hp and excellent consumption. It should be noted that I always liked the high seating position in Subaru. There is always a feeling that you are looking over other cars, the visibility is amazing. In terms of equipment and ergonomics, it’s still the same thrill, because there must be mutual understanding with the technology. The reason to notice this car is, of course, its dimensions. However, they are not useless, because the inside is quite spacious. There is only one minus: the rear seats do not fold into the floor, so luggage space is limited. Or simply transport something separately in the cabin without passengers. As always, I did a test drive before purchasing, this gives you more confidence in what you are doing. The gearbox is manual, but not bad at all. A winter package has been added in the form of heated side mirrors and front glass. The main heating goes to the engine and front rows. If you don’t like the fact that the tires don’t wear evenly, it’s an additional expense. But that’s why he and Subaru spend money on him. In terms of cost for its capabilities, this is not considered a lot, but for the middle class of people it is a significant amount. But there are savings in fuel consumption. However, I am sure that many people can like this brand if they get to know it better.

The regular station wagon is no longer sold in Russia - only its pseudo all-terrain version “Outback” with ground clearance increased to 20 cm and a skirt made of unpainted plastic along the lower perimeter of the body. Curbs, a muddy road after rain or a country lane will not become an insurmountable obstacle for such a car. Among other things, in basic equipment it is also cheaper than a 2.5-liter sedan by almost 16,000 rubles. This is not a SUBARU IMPREZA. 2nd place: 4-door sedan. Legacy looks larger than many mid-size models, approaching business class in size and base. It has a spacious interior - you can sit in the back with your legs crossed, and a soft suspension, which provides high comfort to passengers, especially on long trips. But if you choose such a body, then only with a 2-liter engine - you will get a large all-wheel drive sedan for reasonable money.

Before choosing one or another configuration of the Subaru Legacy, you need to decide on the body type. If you need a regular all-wheel drive sedan, then the best option is Legacy 2.0 in the basic version for 857,700 rubles, which is superior in equipment not only to competitors, but also to individual representatives of the business class. Climate control, power accessories, alloy wheels, 4 airbags, cruise control, heated front seats and windshield wiper areas, leather trim on the steering wheel, gear lever and parking brake handle, as well as a CD radio with a 6-disc changer. The only thing missing is a leather interior and electric front seats. Inflatable safety curtains cost RUB 12,800, and xenon headlights and an electric sunroof cost RUB 35,000. “Automatic” will require an additional payment of 41,000 rubles. In addition, all Legacys are equipped with a system that maintains constant ground clearance regardless of load. The only serious mistake of the Japanese engineers is the non-folding back of the rear seat. On a $35,000 car it looks strange, to say the least.

Other versions are equipped, in addition to more powerful engines, with window cushions, xenon headlights, music controls on the steering wheel, a multifunction display, leather trim, as well as front seats with electric adjustments and memory settings. However, the price of even the cheapest of these options already exceeds a million. For those who need an all-wheel drive station wagon with increased ground clearance, we recommend the Outback-2.5 for RUB 1,043,800. In terms of equipment, it is almost identical to the base sedan, but has a more powerful engine and does not require additional payment for side “curtains” of safety and radio control keys on the steering wheel. In addition to the automatic transmission for 41,000 rubles, it can be equipped with a dynamic stabilization system (for the same amount), xenon headlights, leather upholstery and electric sunroof and front seats with memory settings.

The sportiest, but also the most expensive, is the Legacy 3.0R-Spec-B. The intricate index indicates a rigid suspension and an aerodynamic body kit consisting of side sills and a front spoiler. Inside, the seats have pronounced lateral support and the interior is trimmed with aluminum-look inserts. In addition, only it has light alloy wheels with an original pattern on 18-inch tires. But do not forget that this “Subaru Legacy” is an option for a driver who loves fast driving and is ready to put up with less comfort for the sake of it. But for the Subaru Outback such a configuration is impossible.

1st place: 2.5 l (173 hp). The most suitable option for the Subaru Outback: high-torque and quite powerful, giving it good dynamics. Acceleration to hundreds takes less than 10 seconds, and you can confidently overtake on the highway even for those traveling in a large group and with heavy luggage.

2nd place: 2.0 l (150 hp). The capabilities of the basic boxer four of the Subaru Legacy are sufficient in most cases - closer to the maximum speed, the engine does not turn sour, maintaining good responsiveness to pressing the gas pedal. 3rd place: 3.0 l (245 hp). The excellent engine is powerful and torquey, it gives the Subaru excellent dynamics even with an automatic transmission. But it’s very expensive, especially in the “Spec-B” version.

All Subaru Legacys are equipped with an all-wheel drive system, which ensures constant transmission of traction to all four wheels. Not automatic connection of the front or rear axle in case of slipping of the opposite one, but constant traction on all wheels. Thanks to this, the car behaves stably and predictably in slippery turns. With a manual transmission, the torque distribution between the axles is 50:50. With an automatic, the ratio may change slightly towards the front or rear wheels depending on the engine. But the car always remains all-wheel drive.

The Subaru Outback is also equipped with a proprietary AWD all-wheel drive system with a clutch and a rear limited-slip differential. But despite the solid ground clearance, it is not intended for serious off-road use. Of course, the Outback's capabilities are wider than those of the standard Subaru Legacy sedan, but they are also limited to a country road or a snowy road.

Subaru has never been cheap, and the Subaru Legacy is no exception. The optimal sedan with a 2-liter engine in the basic configuration will cost 857,700 rubles. It’s not cheap at first glance, but you will get all-wheel drive and rich equipment, and the Subaru Legacy’s interior dimensions and spaciousness are superior to most of its classmates. Those who are less strapped for money will appreciate the Outback 2.5 all-terrain station wagon - after the Allroad and XC70 stepped into the business class, there were no competitors left for such a car.
