CG10DE engine reliability issues

In general, the Nissan Micra engine is reliable, although it also has its problem areas. Major breakdowns, as a rule, occur no earlier than after 20 years of operation and as a result of untimely maintenance.

Problems starting at low temperatures

This problem is typical for CG10DE even at temperatures close to zero. The problem can be solved by turning off the fuel pump before turning the ignition key by pulling the fuse from the control unit. The engine will start easily. After starting, the fuse is inserted back into the socket. And some car owners even install a separate toggle switch in the circuit.

Cleaning the idle speed control, which sometimes sticks, will also help start this engine in the cold. The procedure is simple and is carried out with the appropriate means.

One of the reasons for problems with starting in cold weather may be excessive restriction of the control unit's air supply during start-up. Flooded cylinders prevent the engine from starting. The automaker even released a special cord. They connect the sensor and the control unit.

It happens that the CG10DE does not start when moisture in the catalyst freezes at night if it is clogged, which tightly clogs the exhaust system.

Damper

Timing chains

Chains are one of the CG10DE's main weaknesses due to their susceptibility to stretching. More often the lower one is stretched. Rattling sounds indicate stretching of the chains. And its consequence may be a decrease in engine power.

BC head

After many years of use of the CG10DE, the oil seals become hardened. The oil burns more intensely, settling on the valves. Heat dissipation deteriorates and valves may burn out. The BC head often cracks during long-term use.

The third generation March was designed in collaboration with Renault. Unlike previous models, the exterior of the new March was dominated by rounded shapes from all angles. In the original retro style, there was a place for bulging headlights, which delighted the world community even at the premiere. Due to the lack of hydraulic compensators in the CG10DE, periodic checking of valve clearances and their adjustment is required. Often, when diagnosing problems with the motor, clearances are not given due attention. But when they increase at high speeds, a drop in engine power is observed.

Nissan Micra 1.0 (CG10DE) engine reliability

Nissan's subcompact engine is quite good and reliable, but it does have some weaknesses. Serious mechanical failures are also possible, but mainly as a result of at least 20 years of use and poor maintenance.

Doesn't start in cold weather

The CG10DE engine has an unpleasant feature - it does not start in cold weather. Starting problems begin already at near-zero temperatures. They say that the most effective way in this case is to turn off the fuel pump before starting the engine. This is done quite simply: by removing the fuse from the block, which is accessible from the passenger compartment. The engine will start normally if the spark plugs were not flooded during unsuccessful cranking. When the engine starts, the fuse is returned to its place. Some people put a switch in the fuel pump circuit.

Another way to revive a 1-liter Nissan Micra engine in cold weather is to clean the idle air control. It happens that it jams and does not open at the time of startup. The regulator can be easily removed and cleaned with a suitable product.

There is also information that there are problems with starting the CG10DE engine in cold weather; the control unit overly restricts the air supply at the time of start-up, floods the cylinders with fuel, as a result the engine literally cannot breathe and it does not start. To eliminate this problem, a decoy is installed in the antifreeze temperature sensor circuit - an additional resistance that artificially increases the engine temperature data. There is even an original cable from Nissan with a 25 KOhm resistor that easily connects between the coolant temperature sensor and the ECU.

Another reason why the CG10DE engine does not start in cold weather is a clogged catalyst, in which moisture also freezes overnight, which finally clogs the exhaust system.

Won't start in warm weather

If the Nissan Micra (CG10DE) engine does not start in any weather, then you need to check the fuel pump - it is possible that its strainer is clogged. Clogged injectors could also be the culprit. And if the Nissan Micra engine with automatic transmission does not even turn with the starter, then the problem may be in the “automatic” selector, which does not go into the extreme position in “parking”.

Oil leaks

Injectors

And if one of the injectors stops injecting fuel altogether, then the engine starts running on three cylinders throughout the entire speed range. You can identify a faulty injector in the standard way: by removing the chips or coils from the spark plugs one by one. If you disconnect a spark plug with a faulty injector, the nature of the engine's vibration will not change in any way.

Distributor

On pre-restyling CG10DE engines, the distributor fails - it breaks through the winding, causing the spark to disappear. The distributor is not repaired, but replaced with a serviceable new or used one.

Throttle valve

The throttle body of the CG10DE engine is a large unit with an idle speed control, thermal valve and mass fuel flow sensor in it. When cleaning the damper, you need to be very careful with the air flow sensor - the jet of cleaner will break its thread. Cleaning the damper is necessary in case of floating or high idle speeds.

Thermostat

Model produced in 2004, version with a 1.2-liter engine and automatic transmission. Driving fast with such a combination, you know, is impossible even in your dreams. But you can save on gasoline, but you can also switch to gas. My copy eats 8-9 liters of AI-92 per hundred.

Larisa, Krasnoyarsk. I have a 2008 March, a restyled version with external and internal “new things”. Nothing special, the developers just added options and embellished the exterior. Of course, this didn’t make March any better, but it did give him a more current look. The 1.2 engine, in my opinion, is the most popular, that’s why I took it with an automatic transmission.
