The 3RZ-FE engine was developed in 1994 and turned out to be not only the most powerful, but also the most successful example of the RZ engine series.
In this engine, Toyota designers managed to optimally use the main advantages of the in-line four-cylinder I4 layout (low manufacturing cost, simplicity and reliability of operation) and at the same time minimize its disadvantages through the use of a complex balancer shaft design in the design. The 3RZ-FE is an engine of the standard power series (the letter “F” in the coding), has 4 valves per cylinder and a timing chain drive on one camshaft (High Efficiency Twincam Engine). Timing chain 3RZ-FE
1. Drain the engine oil.
2. Drain the coolant.
3. Remove the cylinder head assembly
4. Remove the crankshaft position sensor by unscrewing the 2 mounting bolts and removing the O-ring.
5. Remove the oil pan.
a) Unscrew the 16 bolts and 2 fastening nuts.
b) Insert the blade of the special device between the cylinder block and the oil pan and, cutting off the seal, remove the pan.
Do not damage the pan flange or the surface of the cylinder block.
6. Remove the oil receiver by unscrewing the bolt and 2 fastening nuts.
7. Remove the crankshaft pulley,

8. Remove the timing chain cover.

d) Using a plastic hammer, carefully remove the timing chain cover with three shims.
9. Remove the timing chain and camshaft sprocket.
10. Remove the crankshaft drive sprocket.
11. Remove the chain tensioner guide bar No. 1 and damper No. 1 by unscrewing the bolts and fastening nut.
Balancer drive chain
12. Remove dampers No. 2 and No. 3, chain tensioner No. 2.
a) Using a pin, secure the tensioner rod No. 2.
b) Unscrew the fastening bolt and remove damper No. 2 (b).
c) Unscrew the two fastening bolts and remove damper No. 3 (c).
d) Unscrew the fastening nut and remove tensioner No. 2 (d).
13. Remove the balancer drive gear, shaft, balancer drive chain, and balancer drive sprocket.
a) Unscrew the bolt securing the balance shaft drive gear.
b) Remove the balance shaft drive gear along with the axle.
c) Remove the balancer drive chain with the balancer drive drive sprocket.
14. Remove damper No. 4 by unscrewing the 2 mounting bolts.
