The ninjas carried out their forays mainly at night: their black clothes perfectly camouflaged the mercenaries in the darkness of alleys and gateways. All the weapons of the warriors of the night also pursued one goal: to be as quiet and inconspicuous as possible for a potential target and random passers-by. Many people know the famous ninja stars - shurikens. But the fighters’ inventory contained much more deadly items.

What is required to make the model?

If you urgently need to make shuriken, then prepare several rectangular sheets. To make a semblance of Naruto's shuriken, you will need black sheets. When making crafts to complement the ninja costume, use paper that matches the color of the gloves or the robe itself.

Since we propose using the origami technique to make crafts, you don’t need anything other than a few thick sheets of paper. The modules are attached to one another using paper flaps.

Making crafts will take no more than 10 minutes, which, if necessary, will allow you to quickly create new items.

Shuriken translates to a blade in the hand, so make small models. The smaller the size, the tougher and more realistic the craft will be.

Four-pointed throwing star

There are several schemes for making shurikens. They are all based on the same principle, which is used to form a four-pointed star. This basic model is suitable for beginners. Traditionally, square sheets are used for origami. It takes two squares to make one model.

In more detail, step-by-step instructions tell you how to make origami from shuriken paper:

Fold the two opposite edges of each square toward the center. Repeat the remaining points for each detail.
Fold the resulting rectangle in half.
Bend the diametrically located corners. On the second rectangle, make a fold at the other corners so that you get a piece that is a mirror copy of the first.
Bend the workpiece diagonally on both sides. You got two halves with corners pointing in different directions.
Fold the pieces one on top of the other perpendicularly so that you can connect the corners with the gaps.
Insert the corners into the gaps first on one side and then on the other. Evaluate the final result.

You have received a paper shuriken, which can be made from contrasting shades of paper to make it even more attractive. This is a transformable craft that can be used to make others; for example, it can be turned into a spinner or a bright pinwheel to decorate a holiday table.

The children are very inventive: using four-pointed shuriken, they came up with the idea of assembling a more complex weapon - a bunch of stars. It looks impressive and is large due to the use of 4 to 8 standard shuriken. Such models are most often used by the most avid origami lovers, who have understood the essence of this art and learned to modernize the basic models to suit their needs.

The main types of thrown (melee) weapons are throwing knives and daggers, shurikens, boomerangs, chakras, spears and darts.

Throwing knives and daggers are types of thrown (cold) weapons with piercing and cutting action (Fig. 91). A feature of their design is the virtual absence of a handle in the generally accepted form. It is usually a specially shaped shank that plays the role of a stabilizer. It is often wrapped with cord or has thin pads.

The designs of throwing knives and daggers are characterized by longitudinal symmetry and a slight shift of the center of gravity towards the tip, which ensures stability of the weapon in flight.

A shift in the center of gravity of throwing knives and daggers can be achieved by increasing the thickness and width of the blade near the tip. The same purpose is served by various balancing weights that move along special grooves on the blade; shot or mercury, partially filling the internal cavity in the blade. When thrown, such knives are held by the handle or blade.

Throwing knives are quite varied. Thus, in China, the “biandao” knife (“fei biandao”) is well known, which is a sickle-shaped blade without a handle, a blade sharpened at one edge and having a central and two side curved spikes on the other. The blade is about 20 cm long, 10 cm wide. The blade of the Broadhead Tyrowers (USA) throwing knife has a leaf-shaped shape, the handle is separated from the blade by a slight depression.

Throwing daggers have an advantage over throwing knives due to their pronounced piercing properties.

Shuriken is a thrown piercing or piercing weapon.

The entire variety of shurikens can be divided into two main groups:

- short rods with points at the ends (bo-shuriken) (Fig. 92);

- multi-beam plates with blades and (or) points along the outer edge (shakens) (Fig. 94).

Bo-shuriken are faceted or cylindrical rods with one or two ends sharpened.

The average length of bo-shuriken ranges from 90 to 150 mm, diameter from 5 to 10 mm, weight from 150 to 300 grams. There are bo-shurikens of smaller weight.

When thrown, the bo-shuriken is pointed at the target along its entire flight path, like an arrow.

Bo-shurikens can be made folding (Fig. 93).

The second type of shuriken is the shakiken, which is most common in the shape of a multi-rayed star.

Depending on the size of the design of these shurikens, they are divided into small (diameter up to 6 cm), medium (up to 8 cm) and large (over 8 cm). The weight of shuriken, as a rule, is from 60 to 500 g. To reduce the weight of the shuriken, through holes can be made in its body.

After being thrown, the shuriken flies in a rotational motion. The flat profile of the shuriken design provides a “wing effect”, i.e. a state when an thrown body flies due to the lifting force of air resistance, resting its plane, like a wing, on the air, which significantly increases the flight range.

The presence of numerous combat projections (from 3 to 16), provided that the shuriken hits the target, greatly increases the likelihood of causing damage compared to throwing knives.

Depending on the design features of the shuriken's combat protrusions, its damaging effect can cause predominantly stab wounds.

A throwing weapon with cutting action similar in purpose to the shuriken is a combat disc, called a chakra in India.

Chakra is a thrown cutting weapon in the form of a flat metal ring with a blade along the outer edge (Fig. 95). The diameter of the chakra is usually from 10 to 30 cm. The chakra is thrown after unwinding it on the index finger. It can fly up to 50 m, and even cuts through bones when thrown close.

A boomerang is a thrown impact and impact-crushing weapon made of hard material with a curved shape that ensures flight along a given trajectory. In the past, it was used by the peoples of Southeast Asia, South India, Australian tribes, etc. for hunting small animals and birds (Fig. 96).

Traditionally, boomerangs are crescent-shaped or angular in shape and made from hard wood or bone. The ends of the boomerang most often do not have the same length, but are in a ratio of 3:4. Sometimes one end of the boomerang is moved to the side for easier hand holding when throwing. The thickest part of the boomerang is in the middle. The boomerang is bent at an angle of 80-120 degrees. The cross section of a boomerang is similar to the profile of an airplane wing. In flight, the boomerang makes both translational and rotational movements at the same time. If you miss, some types of boomerangs, having described a closed curve, return to the place of the throw.

Eight-pointed complex design

One of the models that was obtained by modifying the basic modules is the eight-pointed throwing star. It is called transformative. In appearance it bears little resemblance to Japanese throwing weapons, but is still loved by children. Many boys believe that a star with eight sharp corners is “more dangerous” than the standard one, so they often make this model for games.

There are several options for folding such a craft. They can only be mastered by those who are fluent in the art of origami. Here are step-by-step instructions for one method.

Make 8 modules from square blanks of the same size:

Place the sheet at an angle facing you. If you took colored paper, then the white side should be facing up. You should not take the double-sided option, since the unpainted part will help you during assembly of the structure.
Fold it diagonally and unfold it.
Raise the lower corners to the marked line in the middle of the sheet.
Bend the top sharp corner down.
Fold the bottom corner in the same way.
If you did it correctly, the tip will be flush with the tip of the valve assembled earlier.
Fold the module in half vertically.
Make 7 more elements to assemble a circle of modules.

The model folds very simply: the lower left corners of each module need to be placed in the white pockets of the other.

Using this pattern, assemble the entire eight-pointed star. After the circle closes, you will get paper origami “Eight-pointed Shuriken”.

The described elements can be used to create other crafts, it is only important to use your imagination and understand the basics of fixing them without using glue.

Fold the first sheet in half.
Bend the side corner towards you and smooth out the resulting element.
Bend the corner inward.
Unbend the resulting element and turn it over, then work will proceed with the resulting square.
Move the corners to the center of the workpiece.
Fold in half and bend the first triangle.
The workpiece will look like a parallelogram. At this stage, you can check whether you did everything correctly.
At this point you can finish and make an octagonal shuriken star. We can continue further.
Each part must be nested inside each other so that the bent part is inside the circle and the corners look outward.
Each subsequent element is secured with the corners of the previous one, pushing them inside the element.
The last part of the workpiece is inserted into the first.
If everything is folded correctly, it will probably stretch.
It will become similar to the Indian military weapon "Chakra".

How to throw shuriken?

Paper is used to make a type of Japanese weapon, the hira-shuriken. It can be thrown from different positions, positioned horizontally or vertically to the target. To throw, the craft is held between the fingers of one hand, and then a throwing motion is made with the hand, pushing the figurine out.

During the flight, the figure must rotate around its axis 360 degrees.

Japanese ninjas threw shurikens so that they broke through flimsy fences and got stuck in a tree. Forbid your child from throwing crafts at animals and people in advance. Give him a target similar to the one used in darts. Even paper can cause severe pain if it hits the eye or solar plexus. Throwing a toy at a target is even more useful; this activity will develop your hand and eye.

Legends of the Ninja

There are many legends about ninjas. Some of them are true, and some are fiction. So, it was believed that ninjas always wore black clothes. This is exactly how they are portrayed. But in fact, they rarely wore black things, it was too noticeable. Such clothing was used in special cases, if the operation had to be as mobile as possible and could likely lead to the disclosure of the agent. And the best way to do your job is to get lost in the crowd. So ninjas dressed like everyone else.

Legends say that ninjas were masters of martial arts. But in reality they simply didn’t need it. Few of them could defeat a samurai in open battle. They always acted secretly. Surprise has always been their trump card.

What is shuriken?

Shuriken is a star used by ninjas and samurai. This concept comes from Japan, translated it means “blade hidden in the hand.” Shuriken was used as a throwing weapon, which always came to the rescue in the most exciting moments of battle. It was made from thin strips of metal, and sharp rays were necessarily provided. Shurikens differed in appearance. They consisted of eight, four or five corners. A special hole was provided in the center of the weapon, which improved its aerodynamic properties.

Today, shuriken is a famous paper craft that children enjoy playing with in the yard, imagining that they are fearless ninja warriors.

Shaken

The name "Shaken" is translated as "sword-wheel". Unlike the “stick”, they had a more sophisticated, star-shaped (or round) shape. They were made from a thin metal plate, and the edges of the “star” were sharpened. The diameter of the shaken ranges from 100 to 180 millimeters, and its thickness is from 1 to 3 millimeters. A hole must be made in the center. It not only improved the aerodynamic performance of the weapon, but also added convenience to it. Star-shaped shurikens could be carried on a rope. Thanks to the design, the range of shakens reaches 12-15 meters.

As with bo-shuriken, shakiken have a huge number of different variations. The fact is that there simply was no standard in medieval Japan regarding shuriken. And the masters were guided either by their own vision of weapons, or adapted to the requirements of various martial arts schools (each used its own technique of using “stars” and “sticks”).

According to established tradition, craftsmen decorated shurikens with patterns and special mystical signs. In those distant times, there was a belief that they were able to attract certain powerful forces into allies.

Despite the differences in the steps involved in making shuriken, all versions use the same materials and tools.

paper – it is advisable to use double-sided colored paper, if this is not available, you can take regular A4 sheets;
scissors (can be replaced with a stationery knife);
ruler;
pen;
decorations as desired.
