In 2001, Tula gunsmiths developed the PP-2000 submachine gun specifically for anti-terrorist units. Its main advantage is the increased density of fire during close combat. A convenient design with a minimum number of parts, maximally adapted for concealed carry, can be disassembled within 30 seconds. In all respects, the Russian model is superior to European models in this class of small arms.

Design

The submachine gun is built on the basis of automatic blowback action; fire is fired from a closed bolt. The trigger mechanism is trigger type. The PP-2000 body is made of high-strength plastic. The bore is chrome plated. Traditionally for compact submachine guns, the pistol grip also serves as the magazine opening. The massive trigger guard can be used as a fire control handle[1], and also allows you to fire the weapon without removing thick gloves. A special feature of this submachine gun is the ability to use a spare magazine as a shoulder rest[1]. The fire mode switch safety switch is located only on the left side of the weapon, however, the bolt cocking handle and the magazine release button can be reinstalled on any side[2].

Since 2006, serial PP-2000s have been equipped with a removable side-folding metal shoulder rest[1][6], and at the DEFEXPO arms exhibition (February 2010)[7] a variant with a more convenient non-folding plastic buttstock of a skeletal design was presented[ 8].

The PP-2000 can also be equipped with a silencer, a visible or infrared laser sight, a collimator or optical sight, night vision devices and a tactical flashlight[1].

A universal sighting bar is installed on the receiver cover of serial PP-2000[9][10].

general information

The device made it possible to achieve impressive results in terms of destruction range - up to 300 meters. In the year of release, it was ahead of all major competitors, including foreign products. Most effective when used in close combat: it shows excellent shooting density. To achieve optimal dimensions, the design was devoid of unnecessary spare parts. The dimensions and structure of the body allow the pistol to be carried covertly.

The body is made of high-strength plastic, parts of technical components are made of weapons-grade steel. The use of plastic for the body eliminates the possibility of corrosion. At low temperatures, PP-2000 does not have a cooling effect. The design includes a flame arrester, which reduces the likelihood of detecting the shooter in the dark. Thanks to the simplicity of the design, it was possible to achieve a minimum weight of 1.5 kilograms and a high disassembly speed of no more than 30 seconds.

The weapons community saw the gun for the first time in 2006 at a Moscow exhibition. In the same year, mass production began. The main customers of weapons are detachments of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation and the Federal Bailiff Service.

Owners love this submachine gun for the uniqueness of its cartridges. When hitting a hard surface, there is no ricochet. Thanks to this, combat units use it in closed spaces of a small area, free hostages, etc.

Ammunition used

The PP-2000 submachine gun can use various 9x19 mm cartridges, including:

  • commercial cartridges 9×19 mm,
  • military cartridges 9×19 mm,
  • 9x19 mm cartridges with the Russian-developed 7N31 armor-piercing bullet[4] - provide penetration of 8 mm steel sheet at a distance of up to 10 m[1], 5 mm at a distance of 45 m and 3 mm at a distance of up to 80 m[4].

The dispersion size of the best half of the bullets when shooting at a distance of 100 m is [2]:

  • shooting prone with the hand single - 25×25 cm;
  • in bursts - 100×100 cm;
  • shooting standing from hand
      single - 40x40 cm;
  • in bursts - 140x140 cm.
  • What are submachine guns?

    In Russian legislation, the definition of this category of weapons was given when drawing up the first GOST standards. The characteristics of this type of weapon have been preserved to this day. In our country, this category includes a weapon, which is a type of machine gun that is powered by pistol ammunition.

    The submachine gun is a shortened version of the usual machine guns. It allows the user to fire in automatic mode. It can be held in one or two hands, and can also be used in a shoulder-rest position.

    Specifications

    The main performance characteristics of the PP-2000 include:

    • The cartridges used are 9x19 mm caliber;
    • Length in combat condition - 58.2 cm;
    • Length when folded - 35 cm;
    • Height with standard magazine - 19 cm;
    • Height with extended magazine - 30.5 cm;
    • The weight of the unloaded weapon is 1.4 kg.
    • Maximum rate of fire is 10 rounds per second. The designers achieved the lowest rate of fire in this class. The device does not include retarding mechanisms. The result was laid down at the design stage, when the parameters of the trigger and mainspring were determined.

      The gun's configuration includes a 44-round magazine. It can be carried with you or installed instead of a stock. During combat, it can be easily removed, after which it can be used to replace an expended magazine. You need to remember the disadvantages of this arrangement: the walls of the magazine can be damaged during operation, and it is less convenient than a classic stock.

      The use of a silencer is provided, which increases the camouflage of the shooter. The muffler is non-separable, therefore it has minimal weight and is easy to install and remove. You can install a laser pointer and a flashlight on special strips. PP-2000 is the best option in the submachine gun category. It has high-level tactical and technical characteristics, significantly ahead of Russian and foreign competitors.

    The PP-2000 submachine gun was first publicly demonstrated in the summer of 2004 at the Eurosatori 2004 exhibition in Paris and in the fall at Interpolitex-2004 in Moscow. The first thing that attracts attention is the small size and unusual shape of the submachine gun. Its dimensions are comparable to those of a modern combat pistol.

    The layout of the PP-2000 can be called traditional - the fire control handle located in the center of gravity serves as a neck for a box magazine with a capacity of 20 or 44 rounds. What gives the submachine gun a somewhat unusual appearance is the front handle, which is connected by a jumper to the fire control handle and forms a spacious trigger guard, allowing you to hold the weapon with both hands and fire with thick gloves.

    To fire the PP-2000, standard 9x19 mm Par cartridges can be used. When firing from the PP-2000, steel sheets 3 mm thick are penetrated at a distance of 90 m, 5 mm - at a distance of 50 m, and at distances of up to 15 meters, the bullet of this cartridge penetrates steel 8 mm thick!

    The rate of fire of the PP-2000, despite its short length, is about 600 rounds per minute.

Place the wrist of the hand with the pistol in the open palm of the free hand and grab the hand with the pistol with your palm from the front under the trigger guard and slightly below, fixing the position of the fingers of the hand holding the weapon. While aiming, both eyes must remain open, i.e. try not to squint. The gaze should be focused on the rear sight of the pistol, while the front sight is installed in the rear sight at the level of the rear sight shoulders and should not be higher or lower than the rear sight shoulders, and should not be pressed against the left or right wall of the rear sight slot. To release the trigger, you must: firmly hold the pistol handle, hold your breath, and smoothly press the trigger until the trigger is released from the cocking position unnoticed by the shooter, i.e. until the shot is fired. When releasing the trigger, you should not attach importance to slight vibrations of the level front sight at the aiming point. When practicing aiming and releasing the trigger, it is necessary to achieve: - releasing the trigger should not displace the weapon aimed at the target, i.e. should not disrupt the aiming; — the trigger should be pulled in full accordance with visual perception, i.e. timed to coincide with a certain moment when the “flat front sight” is at the aiming point. Consequently, to achieve a well-aimed shot, a smooth pull on the trigger is practiced and aiming is carried out not separately, but strictly coordinated with each other. QUESTION No. 3. Incomplete disassembly

    To keep the weapon in excellent condition, regular maintenance is required: cleaning and lubricating parts, checking the serviceability of technical components. To do this, you need to know how partial disassembly is carried out:

  • By pressing the magazine latch, remove it;
  • Switch the safety to single shot mode;
  • Cock the trigger - move the bolt to the rearmost position. At this stage, the chamber is checked (there should be no ammunition in it);
  • Disconnect the butt - grab it firmly with your hand and make a sharp movement back;
  • The plunger flag is moved to a vertical state in the forend of the handle;
  • Move the receiver and bolt back to disconnect it from the handle;
  • Remove the butt plate - press the rod with the thumb of your working hand;
  • Remove the return mechanism;
  • Disconnect the bolt and receiver.
  • Partial disassembly with a trained hand takes no more than 2-3 minutes. Assembly must be carried out in reverse order.

    Modification PP-2000 Vityaz

    Recently, news sources appeared information about a new model of a submachine gun based on the PP-2000. This information is completely incorrect. "Vityaz" is a product of the Izhevsk arms factory. It is based on the PP-19-01, and was carried out on the basis of the AKS-74U and AK-105 assault rifles. Obvious differences with the PP-2000 can be seen in photographs on the Internet.
