Pile driving installation SVU-V-6: shockless technology for driving piles

Sniper rifle SVU-A

SVU (OTs-03) is a self-loading sniper rifle with a bullpup , developed TsKIB SOO based on the SVD . The development of a shortened sniper rifle based on the SVD , intended for the Airborne Forces , began at TsKIB SOO in the 1970s, but it did not reach industrial production then. In the early 1990s, the rifle was offered to the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs as a sniper weapon for urban conditions. The Ministry of Internal Affairs adopted IEDs for service and also demanded the development of a variant with the ability to fire in bursts.

In terms of accuracy of fire at short and medium ranges, the IED is approximately similar to the SVD . The ability to fire bursts in SVU-A and SVU-AS is provided only for emergency cases (for example, in close combat that creates a real threat to the life of a sniper), since the use of a powerful cartridge and the small weight of the rifle lead to significant recoil when firing in bursts, and a small magazine does not allows for long-term shooting.

The internal structure of the rifle is generally similar to the SVD , with the exception of decisions arising from the layout used, such as the long rod connecting the firing mechanism and the trigger. The SVU-A and SVU-AS use a modified trigger , which allows firing both single (by briefly pressing the trigger) and bursts (by pressing all the way or when a special translator is turned on).

The barrel is equipped with a massive camouflage muzzle device, developed by designer L.V. Bondarev . The muffler provides a reduction in the sound level of the shot by 10-12% compared to the SVD , almost completely eliminates the muzzle flash and disperses the sound of the shot in such a way that it becomes impossible to determine the exact position of the shooter. The fittings are made of polyamide.

Options:

  • SVU (OTs-03) - basic version.
  • SVU-A (OTs-03A) - a variant with the ability to fire in bursts.
  • SVU-AS (OTs-03AS) - a variant of SVU-A , characterized by the presence of a folding bipod attached to the receiver using a special bracket. Thanks to the hinge, they can be rotated sideways 90 degrees to rest against a wall or tree. The telescopic bipod has 4 height adjustments (maximum - 320 mm).

Dimensions and accuracy are better than those of the SVD . My SVU-AS a factory shooting range of 2.5 cm at 100 m, LPS, 4 shots. When shooting, you can stand nearby and the recoil is not strong, unlike the SVD . Weight is 5.5 kg, but it doesn’t feel heavy. Due to the fact that the trigger rod is a long thin plate and is hidden under a high, poorly secured cover, when the trigger is pressed it bends and rests against the cover. And then it transfers the force to the trigger.

Therefore, the descent is long and unpredictable. When shooting, especially from a bipod, the power of the compensator is such that it blows the rifle several centimeters to the side, and the target is lost from sight. Without optics, with a mechanical sight, it is very accurate, convenient, like the FG42 , especially since the sight and front sight are copied from it and a front sight cover is added to protect it from impacts. It's strange that no one mentions this anywhere.

Pile driving installation SVU-V-6: shockless technology for driving piles

When constructing pile foundations surrounded by dense buildings, near dilapidated historical buildings, in landslide zones and other conditions where vibration and noise exposure must be limited, the static method of driving piles and sheet piles is used. This technology is implemented by the SVU-V-6 pile driving installation, which allows you to install building elements in sandy and clayey soils without drilling. At the same time, the load-bearing capacity of the piles increases by 10%, and their design is simplified, since reinforcement of the upper part to prevent impact damage becomes optional.

The video shows the operation of the VU V-6 pile-pressing installation

The SVU-V-6 installation performs the entire technological chain of operations from unloading piles to independent movement to the next immersion point. At the same time, it is completely autonomous, does not require additional mechanisms, and does not require external power supplies. The autonomy of the installation is evident even during its transportation - SVU-V-6 drives onto the platform and is unloaded from it without the help of auxiliary equipment.

SVU-V-6 can drive piles in cramped conditions; the minimum distance from the pile axis to the constraint plane is 37 cm. The installation also provides for working with inclined piles, with an immersion angle of up to 20 degrees in any direction. The special sole SVU-V-6 allows you to press a building element below ground level.

If the indentation force does not exceed 400 kN, then placing the SVU-V-6 on the base plate to distribute the load is not necessary. The pressure under the installation supports is within 10t/sq.m. This is especially important during construction in the historical center of the city, where construction sites are characterized by cramped conditions and a low threshold of permissible vibrations. SVU-V-6 passes all the restrictions of these parameters and has already proven itself at hundreds of sites.

Characteristics of the installation of a pile-pressing installation It remains to add that even if the choice of a piling tool is not limited by strict requirements, the pile-pressing technology has an advantage over other methods, since it reduces the cost of the estimate, and the high speed and accuracy of immersion of the support reduces construction time.

VCA equipment allows:

— reduce environmental pollution; — improve working conditions for workers; — save materials for the production of piles; — monitor the load-bearing capacity of each pile during the driving process; — immerse piles in soils that have shock-absorbing properties.

Our main activity: indentation and driving of piles, leader drilling, indentation and driving of sheet piles, as well as static and dynamic testing of piles. We have our own fleet of vehicles and are ready to deliver piles to the site with their further immersion at the construction site.

Design of the OTs-03 rifle (SVU)

OTs-03 inherited the automatic operation of the SVD rifle, built on the use of the energy of powder gases, partially removed from the barrel. The hammer-type firing mechanism and bore locking system were also used from the prototype. The trigger is connected to the trigger mechanism by a trigger rod mounted along the left wall of the receiver. The rifle is supplied with ammunition from a standard SVD magazine with a capacity of 10 rounds. The SVU-AS rifle is equipped with a detachable box magazine for 30 rounds.

There are no fastenings for installing a bayonet knife. The fore-end, the protrusion under the cheek, which gives support to the shooter's head when aiming, and the shoulder rest of the rifle are made of polyamide and have a camouflage color. The weapon is made according to the bullpup design.

There is no stock as such in the OTs-03. To reduce the impact of the recoil impulse on the shooter, an elastic butt plate is used - a shoulder rest, which is attached directly to the rear of the receiver. The location of the shoulder rest on the axis of the barrel reduces the angle of recoil, which leads to the weapon jumping at the moment of firing. In addition, the buttplate is not rigidly attached to the receiver, by means of a leaf spring, and can be slightly rotated forward, absorbing some of the recoil energy. An additional “fight” against recoil energy is carried out using a three-chamber muzzle device, which simultaneously serves as a muzzle brake that absorbs up to 50% of the recoil energy, a compensator that reduces barrel bounce, a flash suppressor and a muffler, which, due to the expansion and cooling of gases inside the chambers of the muzzle device, reduces shot sound level.

The rifle is equipped with mechanical and optical sights. The mechanical sight, unlike the SVD, is made not of a sector, but of a diopter. The adjustable diopter and front sight with guard are mounted on folding stands. The elevation of the diopter sight above the butt does not force the shooter to tilt his head excessively while aiming and allows shooting both with the optical sight removed and installed. As the latter, the OTs-03 rifle uses the PSO-1 optical sight. Its mount is moved slightly forward and upward and is located above the center of gravity of the rifle. This allows you to use it as an additional carrying handle in combat conditions. In addition to the standard sight, the OTs-03 mounts allow you to install a night sight and a laser target designator.

Tactical and technical characteristics of the OTs-03 rifle (SVU)

The plastic pistol grip is located near the center of gravity of the weapon and has a comfortable ergonomic shape. The enlarged trigger guard allows you to fire while wearing gloves. The butt plate, receiver, pistol grip and forend are made of polyamide and have a protective paint.

The trigger mechanism of the trigger-type IED rifle allows firing only single shots. With a slightly modified trigger, the SVU-AS rifle can fire in bursts. For greater stability when shooting, the SVU-AS rifle is equipped with a height-adjustable bipod (maximum height 320 mm). The bipod can rotate around its axis 90° to the right or left. This feature allows you to shoot with emphasis, for example at a vertical wall, from the most inconvenient positions.
