The Lobaev sniper rifle
is a family of modern Russian sniper rifles.

Production history

In September 2010, the team moved to fulfill a contract to launch a plant in the UAE[1]. The reason for the move is said to be a conflict of interests with IzhMash, but there is no confirmed information. Since 2011, Vladislav Lobaev has successfully produced his rifles in the UAE; they have already been adopted by the UAE Army[2].

In mid-2013, Vladislav Lobaev returned to Russia and founded the LOBAEV corporation, which includes the enterprises Lobaev Hummer Barrels[3] and Lobaev Arms[4], LLC Design Bureau of Integrated Systems[5]. Currently, the SVL model range includes 7 main models, and new models are also being developed[6][7].

SVL are produced in the city of Tarusa by a private company (owner - V. E. Lobaev) using equipment imported from the USA.

Comparison with foreign analogues of long-range rifles

Today, the DVL-10 not only competes with such long-range rifles as the Barrett M-82, but is also significantly ahead of American weapons in many respects.

With a noticeably smaller caliber (.40, and for the Barrett M-82 - .50), the energy of the bullet fired from the DVL-10 barrel is almost the same as that of the first and is equal to 800...1300 J. This is achieved due to a much higher initial speed bullets 935 m/s. For an American rifle, this figure is 820 m/s.

Additionally, thanks to cartridges with a high ballistic coefficient (air resistance), the energy of the bullet will not decrease due to increased distance, as happens with the Barrett M-82. In some circles, it is customary to consider the DVL-10 a counter-sniper weapon, because it can hit small-sized targets at distances over 1000 m. At the same time, the Barrett M-82, with a combat accuracy of 2 arc minutes (6 cm at 100 m), cannot boast of this Maybe.

Families and modifications

SVL

SVL (Lobaev Sniper Rifle). Family of long-range sniper rifles with the King v.3 bolt group.

• SVL
  - Lobaev sniper rifle. Currently out of print.
• OVL
  - Lobaev hunting rifle. Used as a hunting and sporting weapon in the form of a civilian analogue of the SVL. Currently out of print.
• SVLK-14S Twilight
  [9] - One of the main models, which is a development of the 2009 model - a rifle that was produced before production moved to the UAE. Built around the King v.3 bolt group. The receiver is made of aircraft aluminum with a threaded insert made of high-alloy corrosion-resistant steel. The shutter is also made of hard, corrosion-resistant steel. The SVL model K-14 S was deliberately left in a single-shot version to ensure the necessary rigidity of the receiver required for ultra-long-range shooting, as well as modularity and interchangeability of calibers (bolts with larvae: Cheytac, Supermagnum, Magnum). The new model has a reinforced, compared to previous versions, multi-layer “sandwich” made of carbon fiber, Kevlar and fiberglass, and, unlike previous versions of the stock, it is specifically designed for use with such powerful ammunition as Cheytac. Also, to further strengthen the structure, a long aluminum chassis of a certain shape is built into the stock. The cheek mechanism has been changed to a more shooter-friendly option. Match barrel LOBAEV Hummer Barrels.[10] It is made from domestic materials[11]. It was announced that the rifle was being prepared for a world record for shooting at 3400 m and beyond[11]. There were reports in the media that a record firing range of 4170 meters was achieved on a specially manufactured sample[12]. Barrel length - 900 mm. Caliber - .408CT. DXL

A family of long-range repeating rifles with the DUKE bolt group.

• DXL-2 “Scalpel”
  [14] - The main difference from the DXL-3 model is the DUKESS bolt group, shortened by 30 mm - a development of the KING group [15]. The barrel length in various versions varies from 600 to 710 mm. Caliber - .308 Win / 6.5×47 Lapua / 6.5-284 Win. Magazine capacity - 5 rounds. The maximum effective range is 1200 m (6.5-284 Win).
• DXL-3 “Retribution”
  [16] - Built around the DUKE magazine action - a development of the KING group. The main material is aluminum[17]. Barrel length 740 mm. Caliber - .338 Lapua. Magazine capacity - 5 rounds. The maximum effective range is 1800 m.
• DXL-4 “Sevastopol”
  [18] - Development of the 2020 DXL family, an ultra-long-range counter-sniper rifle with an increased barrel length (780 mm). Caliber - .408CT / .375CT. Magazine capacity - 5 rounds. A sporting option for the civilian market is the DXL-4 S single-shot rifle. The maximum effective range is 2300 m.

TSVL

TSVL (Tactical Sniper Rifle Lobaev). Family of tactical rifles with a COUNT bolt group.

• TSVL-8 "Stalingrad"
  [19] - Lobaev tactical sniper rifle. It has a skeleton structure built using a chassis. The COUNT magazine action rests on a small aluminum chassis and compound. TSVL-8 is equipped with a folding stock for portability[20]. Barrel length - 680 mm and 740 mm. Caliber - .338 Lapua Magnum. Magazine capacity - 5 rounds. The maximum effective range is 1600 m.
• TSVL-10 (TSVL-10)
  - Built around a COUNT magazine bolt group. An independent branch in the development of the TSVL rifle. Also equipped with a folding stock[21].

DVL

DVL (Sabotage Rifle Lobaev). A family of light tactical rifles with a COUNT bolt group.

• DVL-10
  (SS-113) - An early modification of the 2010 silent rifle chambered for 8.6x39 mm. In the UAE it was produced under the symbol SS-113.
• DVL-10 M1 “Saboteur” (DVL-10 Saboteur)
  [22] - Modular tactical light sniper rifle for silent shooting. This model is a development of the 2009 Tsar Cannon. Built around a COUNT magazine action. Unlike other models, it is designed to use subsonic cartridges of its own design .40 Lobaev Whisper. DVL is also offered in a civilian version (with the index “C”) for conventional supersonic cartridges[23]. Barrel length - 400 mm and 500 mm. Caliber - .40 Lobaev Whisper / .308 Win / .338 Federal[24]. Weight 4.8 kg. Magazine capacity - 5 and 10 rounds. Maximum effective range: tactical rifle - 600 m, civilian rifle - 1000 m.
• DVL-10 M2 Urbana
  [25] - Tactical sniper rifle of 2020. It is a modification of the DVL-10, specialized for fighting in the city. Barrel length - 550 mm and 600 mm. Caliber - .308 Win / .338 Federal / 6.5x47 Lapua. Weight - 5.2 kg[26]. Magazine capacity - 5 and 10 rounds. The maximum effective range is 1300 m. The basic configuration is not equipped with PBS.

Design features of DVL-10

There are two types of this weapon. DVL-10 M1 “Saboteur”, presented in 2020, and DVL-10 M2 “Urbana” 2020 - the so-called civilian version. The only difference between these rifles is the barrels. In the civilian version, it is 100 mm longer and, unlike the “Saboteur”, it does not have a muffler, but this does not prevent, if necessary, transforming the “Urbana” DVL into the “Saboteur” DVL.

The DVL-10 longitudinally sliding shutter moves from place with the force of one finger without any stress. The trigger release is unusually smooth, but one of the main advantages of this large-caliber rifle is the almost complete absence of recoil. The barrel's endurance is designed for 8000...10000 shots, and this is a very good indicator.

The sight is considered to be an attachment, and each shooter can install any optics on the DVL-10 that will satisfy his wishes and requirements. Now in Russia the Daedalus sight is as close in quality as possible to foreign models, such as Schmidt and Bender, Vortex or Lupold.

Fire contact ranges have also increased in modern local conflicts; they no longer start from the previous 500...600 m, but from 1100...1700 m, and in some cases even more. The sniper system is multi-faceted and multi-component (now it is not only a rifle), it includes at least 4 elements. This is a cartridge, a rifle, a sight and a marksman himself.

The accuracy of combat and the firing range of this system are determined by the weakest of the components. That is, if a rifle allows you to fire with an accuracy of half an arc minute, but you are using cartridges not intended for sniper weapons, then the accuracy of the battle in this case will depend on the cartridge used. The same applies to the sight and the shooter.

If a sniper cannot hit a target at an effective distance, then regardless of the perfection of the optics on the rifle, the range of the shot will depend only on the shooter.

If the first has a range of 400...500 m, then the second can easily hit targets at a distance of 600...800 m or more. According to the developers, the accuracy of combat from the DVL-10 is equal to only half an angular minute (translated from technical language this is 1.5 cm at a distance of 100 m) and this figure is almost 3.5 times higher than that of the Dragunov rifle.

Initially, the SVD fired 7.62 mm machine gun cartridges. A little later, in 1967, for more efficient firing for it, factories began to produce “Sniper” cartridges. There is an opinion that in our time the SVD is intended for a marksman soldier, while the Lobaev rifle is operated by specialists who understand the intricacies of their craft.

The design brothers have a license to produce not only weapons, but also ammunition. Therefore, they are also made in the Lobaev workshops with special care. Thanks to this, cartridge boxes differ in weight from each other by only 0.2 g.

Sport

In 2020, Vladislav Lobaev set a record for firing range at 3200m.
To set the record, the Lobaev Arms SVLK-14 Twilight rifle in caliber 408 Cheytac was used. On October 3, 2020, a world record for accurate shot range was set with the SVLK-14 “Twilight” rifle. At a distance of 4210 meters, Russian shooter Andrei Ryabinsky hit a square target measuring 1x1 meter.

On November 26, 2020, Russian Sergei Shmakov set a new world record for the longest night shot. The shooter placed a group of five shots at a target measuring 60x60 cm. The range to the target was 2000 meters. Passive night optics (without illumination) were used.

To set the record, a completely Russian shooting complex was used, consisting of the SVLK-14 “Twilight” sniper rifle from Lobaev Arms and a night sight. The SVLK-14 "Twilight" rifle was chambered in .408 CheyTac (10.3 mm).

The purpose of precision weapons

There is a certain category of citizens who like to hunt with rifles for war. Or vice versa - fight with rifles for hunting. Modifications of the DVL-10 are a tactical sniper line, and it fits both into the parameters of civilian weapons established by our legislation and is used by some special forces units and SOBR.

The DVL-10 “Saboteur” rifle proved itself in Benchrest, a competition in high-precision target shooting from a table rest. For this type of competition, the main role is played not by the training of the shooter, but by the quality of the weapon and ammunition.

In addition to sniper competitions, the high-precision rifle is presented at various military exhibitions and shows.
