The European division presented four versions of the Ford Focus: three hatchbacks and one station wagon. In addition to the premium Vignale and the pseudo-sporty ST-Line, Ford also presented the Active - a kind of cross-hatch with a clearance increased by 30 mm. In addition to its height, it is also distinguished by a retuned suspension and black plastic lining on the arches, sills and bumpers. Imitation steel protection on the bumpers is also included - after all, it’s a cross-hatch!

The ST-Line version, on the contrary, is lowered by 10 mm (the standard version, like the station wagon, has a ground clearance of 150 mm). It received an expressive sports body kit and redesigned shock absorbers. Alas, the Line prefix means that this car cannot give the client anything sporty. It only looks like one, but its engine is the most ordinary. But they are already promising a truly infected version of ST. It will probably get a 275-horsepower engine.

But the Wagon has become more convenient. Firstly, the loading platform dropped by 4 cm. It seems like a small thing, but sometimes it plays a very important role. The trunk itself has become larger: 530 liters versus 436 for the previous generation. An increase of almost a hundred liters! Well, this is awesome! And with the rear seats folded, this figure will reach 1650 liters! These are really great numbers.

The top version of Vignale is a skillful take on the premium segment. The interior is decorated with leather and aluminum, and the radiator grille shines with chrome. The version received an exclusive eggplant color, which the company for some reason calls “dark mulberry.” Most likely, this model will cost one of the most expensive offers in the C-class.

A little earlier than the European version, a sedan was presented in China. In addition to the “stern”, the car is distinguished by the design of its foglights. The sedan will not be sold in Europe, but it will most likely reach Russia.

The fourth generation Focus is built on the new C2 platform. According to Ford, body rigidity has increased by 20%, and weight has been reduced by approximately 88 kg. The car will definitely become more maneuverable. Passive safety has also increased: in frontal collisions, the result has improved by 40%. They didn’t forget about the active one either. For example, the headlights “turn” towards the markings.

The car also received new turbo engines: a petrol 1.5-liter EcoBoost with 150 and 182 hp, as well as a diesel 1.5 EcoBlue, developing 95 and 120 hp. All this will be connected to the old 6-speed manual and the new 8-speed automatic. By the way, he knows how to adapt to the driving style, and also distinguishes between descents, ascents and turns.

The suspension has also been redesigned. Adaptive dampers are now available. Every two milliseconds they adjust the damping parameters. This is the first time Focus has had such a feature. In addition, the car will receive a new power steering. It seems that it will make the controls more sensitive.

The salon has become more spacious. This happened thanks to the wheelbase increasing by 5 cm. The car also gained a little weight. This will be especially noticeable by those who have narrow shoulders: this area has been increased by 60 mm.

Now the time has come when, it would seem, there is nothing to surprise you with, and you are no longer looking forward to the release of a new product. Counting on innovative goodies, you think that the design will be the same or another restyling. They will work on the security system and reduce consumption...

I will not stop repeating that for me the debut of the new Ford Focus 2018 is like the presentation of the new Iphone X. This is when you wait for the predicted minimum update, but you get a completely different product that can hook you.

Unlike Apple, Ford produced the updated Focus in five modifications at once.

The new Ford Focus was presented in the following bodies:

ST.

Throughout the history of its existence, Focus was recognizable and could not be confused with anyone else. Now the designers succumbed to temptation and pulled the car out of the Mazda 3, BMW 1, Volvo S 40, Subaru Impreza and many other cars I saw in it. Despite the new Focus's new design and similarities to its competitors, I want to buy it - it really is the new and better Ford Focus 4. Its body lines are still sporty, and their execution surprises and makes you slow down and admire. I also liked the elongated muzzle like a crocodile, I wonder if it will be practical to park.

In addition to design, specialists built a new platform C2, by the way, the new Focus will be a pioneer.

The engines were also updated:

1.5 EcoBoost (150 and 182 hp)
diesel 1.5 EcoBlue (95 and 120 hp)

Available with an 8-speed automatic or 6-speed manual.

The car lost 88 kg in weight thanks to the new chassis + the level of safety has increased (crash test results have improved by 40%).

Again, the new chassis made it possible to improve the already sharp handling. Aerodynamics have improved, and there is more space in the cabin thanks to + 5 cm in the wheelbase and + 6 cm in body width. Now passengers will be comfortable, and the design of the entire cabin has been made from scratch, as can be seen from the small center console with a rotating automatic washer, and the screen is located on top of the dashboard in the center. They decided not to change the famous Ford Focus steering wheel. The body has become stiffer + 20%, and the subframe mounts have also become 50% stronger.

The coolest thing is that those settings were left in the new Focus. which allow you to drive the car, and the 2nd level autopilot steers and drives the car along the markings at a distance of up to 200 km/h. And of course, a real, cool, tuned and fully automatic parking valet will be a nice cherry on the dessert.

So, despite the similarity with competitors and the complete reconstruction of the car, I’m sure every Focus owner has ambivalent feelings. On the one hand, this is a new cool car with a historically cool name, on the other hand, it’s so scary before something new...

But time does not stand still and the Ford Focus is also moving forward and these steps have no room for error. The new Ford Focus 2021 is a new, fourth stage in the life of the same sporty, urban and inexpensive car with excellent quality and better safety.

And yes, this Ford Focus is already an MK4.

Design

The design of the new Focus is a double-edged sword. On the one hand, there are many recognizable features inherent in this particular model. On the other hand... it’s enough to walk around it and see something familiar. No, this “familiar” is not familiar from previous “Tricks”. The headlights seem to quote the new Volvo models, and the cross-version is very similar to the cross-version of the Kia Rio. It seems that the glazing of the hatchback was done by the same people who designed it for the first generation Chevrolet Cruze hatchback. And the lanterns that hint at the Korean “gloss”?

And it seems that the “face” of the model has been preserved. But it was also done with an eye on others.

Equipment

During the premiere of the new Focus, the manufacturer spoke about the list of options available to the car. When the model is released in Russia, buyers will be able to count on the following equipment:

head-up display;
second generation automatic parking;
all-round viewing system;
traffic sign recognition system;
speed limiter.

The following systems are responsible for the safety of the driver and passengers:

collision avoidance;
pedestrian detection;
