Technical specifications Renault SANDERO Stepway 2017
For example, the same Logan is almost the size of a Renault Sandero, centimeters larger, and this will significantly add concern to the driver when parking. Ease of maneuvering and spaciousness of the cabin are determined not only by the length.
One of the important parameters of the Renault Sandero dimensions is the width of the body - the distance between the extreme points of the side mirrors when unfolded. For the Renault Sandero of the year of manufacture, this value is considerable mm: With a height of mm, the Renault Sandero looks quite harmonious for its dimensions.
Another important point: The longitudinal distance between the axles of the Renault Sandero wheel dimensions is mm, which allows the hatchback to easily take the most intricate turns.
It also guarantees the possibility of occupying free space in the parking lot, despite the high density of cars; overall dimensions help with this.
Light and spacious car On the Renault Sandero, the dimensions of the information on the linear dimensions of the car can be concluded that the Renault Sandero of the year produced by Renault is well compact. However, although dimensions are very important, dimensions are not complete information that gives an impression of the Sandero’s full potential as a car.
Renault sandero dimensions: if mm is an excellent indicator for a loaded crossover, then mm is not such a good indicator
Note!
Overall dimensions of Renault Sandero
It is necessary to take into account the fact that no matter how the ground clearance is increased, this will affect the dynamics of the car, its handling and rigidity. How to increase the ground clearance of the Renault Sandero to the Renault Sandero Stepway, is it necessary to take risks? If you need to decide the dimensions of the Renault Sandero, how to raise the Sandero to the same height as the Stepway, you can use several methods. The easiest method is to install larger wheels.
This will increase the ground clearance by a couple of millimeters. You need to increase the tire profile, or take wheels with the same profile, but with a larger radius. By increasing the outer radius of the wheels on a Renault Sandero to achieve ground clearance, renault sandero dimensions on a Renault Sandero Stepway, the car owner risks spoiling the performance of his car.
In particular, the speed sensor may be damaged. A more complex way to increase the ground clearance of a Renault Sandero is to install spacers on the upper supports of the suspension springs. This method can add up to 3 cm to the ground clearance on the Sandero.
Overall dimensions of Renault Sandero Stepway
Installing non-recommended tires and wheels, as well as spacers, will void the vehicle's warranty. Renault sandero dimensions: whether to risk it, trying to increase the ground clearance of Renault Sandero to Renault Sandero Stepway - the decision is up to the owner
But it is imperative to take into account all possible side effects from such modernization
Increasing the ground clearance is suitable for cars that are driven on bad roads at low speeds. For cars operated on highways, this is not relevant. Increasing the ground clearance makes it more difficult to control the car at high speeds.
This is due to the dimensions of the Renault Sandero center of gravity.
In this regard, a Sandero with increased ground clearance runs the risk of being subject to sway and roll. Also, an increase in ground clearance on Renault Sandero to Renault Sandero Stepway can lead to renault sandero wheel alignment adjustment dimensions and increased fuel consumption.
Despite this, the model began to go on sale only three months later. Renault Sandero Stepway of the Year Such sluggishness in promoting the second generation of the French hatchback with crossover ambitions is explained by the lack of direct competitors in the Russian market, although it is very similar to the Lada Kalina Cross, but the new Fiat x of the year can be put on the same level.
However, no time was wasted
The Sandero Stepway of the model year turned out to be very nice, and also well prepared for serious domestic climatic conditions, and this is important. Renault Sandero Stepway front view If we compare the second generation of the model with the previous version, it should be noted that the manufacturers managed to fit a completely new exterior design into the previously familiar Renault Sandero dimensions overall dimensions
The originality and style of the Russian Renault model was known from the basic version of the model, but the idea of targeting off-road had to do with the dimensions of the Renault Sandero.

P.S. A crossover can be created in many ways.
Relatively expensive - use passenger components and assemblies in combination with a newly developed body. An excellent example is the Renault Duster, built on Logan units. The second way is much simpler and cheaper: give a passenger car an off-road appearance, slightly increase the ground clearance and slightly modernize the mechanical components. This is exactly our case. Do such budget front-wheel drive sub-crossovers have a right to life? Undoubtedly! Especially if the original model is inexpensive and has high ground clearance from birth, modifications will not raise the price to the skies. In our opinion, Renault Sandero Stepway and Lada Kalina Cross are ideal examples of the successful implementation of such a concept. Renault Sandero or Sandero Stepway: a step higher

Even more extended fit
In the second version after the restyling of the Renault Sandero Stepway from 2014, the company's chief designers went further and increased the ground clearance by the same amount, that is, by another 20mm. And thus, in the new version the ground clearance was 195mm. This is a very significant and loud statement, capable of bringing the car, in terms of its seat height, into the class of full-fledged SUVs on the market. What other SUV can boast such clearance?
The process of raising the landing of the Renault Sandero Stepway was exactly the same as that used on the 1st generation of the car. The shock absorber struts themselves were lengthened, plus the springs, and all the calculated data were changed specifically for the ECU. Among other things, thanks to the high seating position and significantly widened wheel arches, the model now comes standard with 205/55 R 16 wheels with conventional 16-inch wheels.
Let us immediately note that the slightly increased width and also increased diameter help improve traction with the road surface and significantly increase cross-country ability. However, this is again an additional load on the power plant. But the French engineers did not think about providing a modernized engine, or at least removing power restrictions from all the standard engines presented. We also note that the clearance height of 19.5 cm is indicated for a fully loaded car, but if there is only one driver in the car during the trip, then the landing will be even higher.
What can be concluded
Renault owners, real or potential, often worry whether the Sandero loses its stability when the body is raised, or whether the roll when cornering increases. The designers asked themselves the same questions. Therefore, the Stepway body was narrowed by several centimeters, but the wheelbase remained the same. Thus, the center of gravity is even more concentrated in the center of the car. In addition, in the Privilege configuration the car is equipped with additional safety options:
- ESP – prevents skidding when cornering by changing the torque of each wheel.
- RSC - when a roll is detected, reduces engine speed and activates the anti-lock braking system to prevent a rollover.
The raised seating position does not yet turn the Renault Sandero Stepway into an SUV, but it allows you to enjoy its advantages.
Light and spacious car
Based on information about the linear dimensions of the car, we can conclude that the 2015 Renault Sandero from Renault is quite compact. However, although dimensions are very important, dimensions are not complete information that gives an impression of the Sandero’s full potential as a car.
Therefore, it is necessary to know both the dimensions and weight parameters of the French hatchback. The curb weight of this small car, which is only 1,078 tons, is somewhat surprising.
At the same time, the payload that Renault Sandero is capable of transporting reaches half a ton. Taking this aspect into account, the total vehicle weight can reach 1540 kg.
Despite its small dimensions, the car received from the manufacturers a spacious luggage compartment, the dimensions of which are 320 liters. This moment favors the use of a hatchback for long trips with the whole family.
Elegant hatchback
One gets the impression that the characteristics laid down by the designers in Renault Sandero are not accidental. Here, the requirements of car enthusiasts, recommendations on thematic forums, and test results were taken into account. Therefore, the hatchback turned out to be quite comfortable during the trip. Parameters such as minimal fuel consumption, the presence of a system that simplifies the parking process, high maneuverability and dynamism, both in urban conditions and in the countryside, are achieved due to initially thought-out technical features. And the dimensions of the car are quite acceptable.
The 2015 Renault Sandero makes a deceptive impression - despite the fact that it belongs to the category of small cars, the body looks larger in appearance. Not the least role in creating such an illusion is played by the height of the vehicle, which is actually greater than that of similar hatchbacks.
What is the success of the Sandero from the French automaker Renault based on? Initially, this is due to the length of the body. This size is of enormous importance in creating comfortable travel conditions for people inside the car, its maneuverability in confined spaces, and also affects the volume of the luggage compartment. Renault Sandero boasts a relatively short body length of 4080 mm in its class, which adds another plus to the overall advantages of this hatchback. For example, Logan is 30 mm larger in length, which complicates the parking process. And our car has smaller dimensions.
The developers managed to achieve good maneuverability and large interior capacity not only because of the size of the body. An important role was also played by the width of the body, which is defined as the maximum distance between the extreme points between the two side mirrors set in working order. The body size of 1773 mm for Renault Sandero produced in 2015 is comparable to a similar characteristic for cars of a higher class.
Renault Sandero with a height of 1523 mm has a rather elegant appearance, despite its dimensions. Another important point is: what effect does this parameter have on the maneuverability properties of the machine? The longitudinal distance between the wheel axles is 2589 mm, which allows the hatchback to easily take the most intricate turns. It also guarantees the possibility of occupying free space in the parking lot, despite the high density of cars; overall dimensions help with this.
Auto inside
Since specialists from France reduced the dimensions of the model’s body by 240 mm, the interior interior also decreased accordingly. However, testers always complain about everything, but they have never complained that the Renault Sandero Stepway is narrow in width. The situation is different with height. Without exception, all drivers whose height exceeds 190 cm experience discomfort when the car is of such dimensions.
The opening between the front and rear seats was increased, but the interior dimensions did not increase. The company's engineers simply and naturally placed all the backs of the seats, roughly speaking, vertically. And accordingly, the backrests have moved back, and the car has a little extra space for the legs of the rear passengers.
The dimensions of the luggage compartment in all models without exception have the same volume, which is equal to 320 liters. If you fold out the rear seats, the trunk dimensions will be increased to 1200 liters. In its classic form, the length of the luggage compartment is about 760-810mm; items up to 1290mm long can be stowed diagonally. If all the rear seats are fully expanded, the length of this compartment will be about 140-162mm, depending on the position of the front passenger seat. And if this chair is removed, then a free length of up to 2700 mm will appear.
Interior
The new Renault Sandero Stepway 2014 has an improved interior. The ergonomics have changed, the appearance of the dashboard, the material and texture have become much more diverse.
The interior of the car is quite spacious and comfortable. The cabin width at the elbows is one of the largest among its classmates - 1436 mm.
The front seats are adjustable along the travel of the car and in height. Adjustable headrests are provided for the driver and four passengers. The high seating position and large windows provide a wide view for the driver. The same cannot be said about the small exterior mirrors. Their view is very narrow.
Trunk volume – 320 liters. In addition, a full-size spare tire is stored under the luggage compartment floorboard.
With the rear seats folded down, the trunk volume expands to 1,200 liters. In the trunk you can transport cargo 76-81 cm long. If you place them diagonally, you can put objects 128 cm long. By folding back the rear seats, you can fit a spinning rod 140-162 cm long. And if you remove the front seat, you can fit a fishing rod 270 cm long. cm.
First generation equipment
Production of the modernized generation of the first series began in 2008 in Romania, and lines opened in South Africa in 2009. In Russia, Sandero has been produced since 2009 at the Moscow plant. Since 2010, an off-road version has appeared on the market - Sandero Stepway I. The dimensions of the cargo compartment are standard: 320 liters. If you fold the rear seats, the size of the Sandero Stepway trunk increases to 1200 liters.
Characteristics of the cargo compartment:
- The distance between the rear wall of the body and the back of the rear row seats is 76 cm (maximum 81 cm).
- The diagonal between the wall and the retracted front seat is 180 cm.
- The diagonal of the bottom of the rear compartment is 128 cm.
- Distance from floor to ceiling (height) – 81 cm.
- Width – 95 cm.
- The distance from the wall to the dashboard is 232 cm.
With the rear row seats retracted, large objects can be transported, with a maximum cargo weight of up to 500 kg. The trunk dimensions are also convenient for transporting long items. Fuel consumption at maximum load increases by 20% for the extra-urban cycle, and by 15% when driving on the highway.
What's inside the car
Renault Sandero Stepway is built on the B0 platform, on the basis of which many other models were created. Logan is built on this platform, as well as some budget models from Nissan. The interior of the car of the second modification is practically no different from the interior of the new version of Logan and the ordinary Sandero. The differences can be boiled down to the Stepway logos on the rugs and chairs. With previous generation Renault models, you can see a huge number of different improvements.
Previously, the interiors of Renault cars used solutions typical of French automakers. The location of the horn button was unusual for residents of Moscow and the rest of Russia. Also, the French did not place the controls for the electric mirror drive very conveniently. The power window control keys are in an unusual place. The climate unit was installed at the very bottom of the center console. And in general, the interior was not very aesthetic, but rather simple.
The interior of Sandero Stepway 2 does not evoke the same feelings. The designers listened to the drivers - it became more pleasant inside, almost all French diseases were cured.
To honk at an impudent driver, you no longer need to look for a button on the steering column switch; now it is again in the central part of the steering wheel. The controls for the climate system are located higher, and the buttons for controlling the power windows can be found on the door armrests. The mirrors in Stepway Stepway are adjusted by a switch to the left of the steering wheel.
There is no longer cheap plastic with an unpleasant color in the Renault Stepway interior. Now the company has used new high-quality and pleasant-to-touch materials for finishing. A new steering wheel has been installed, and a multimedia system with a color display is possible. The instrument panel has been made more pleasant and brighter, and the readability of the readings has improved.
The seats in Stepway have become much more comfortable; there is still no lateral support, but high-quality upholstery has been used. The seats are standard adjustable, but the stated height adjustment is not available in the basic configuration. The steering wheel is height adjustable.
Regardless of the driver's height, the new Renault Sandero Stepway has good visibility. The glass area is large, mirrors with a good viewing angle allow you to get complete information about the situation around you.
The luggage compartment holds up to 320 liters of cargo. If you fold the rear seats, you can get up to 1200 liters of usable volume. Sandero Stepway 2 has a full-fledged spare tire under the trunk floor.
Additional options
Depending on the configuration, car options may vary significantly and some of those described below may not be available for cars in the basic configuration. After restyling, the car received the following options:
- Navigation system with 7-inch display. The system supports smartphone connection via Bluetooth for hands-free calling and music playback. In addition, it is possible to play photo and video files from a USB drive and use navigation programs.
- Climate control. Automatic adjustment of the air conditioning system to maintain the desired air temperature in the cabin.
- ESP system. The stabilization system is used to prevent skidding by changing the torque for each wheel separately.
- Heated windshield.
- The braking system is equipped with an anti-lock braking system, which is available to all cars, regardless of the configuration of the Renault Sandero Stepway.
- Parking sensors.
- RSC system. This option has qualitatively expanded the list of technical characteristics of the Renault Sandero Stepway, combining several systems, such as ABS and engine sensors. Its essence is to turn on ABS and reduce engine speed when increased roll occurs.
Vehicle options
The Renault Sandero Stepway car, in its technical specifications updated several years ago, now has new additional necessary options that are available, but, unfortunately, not in all available trim levels.
Options:
- Navigation multimedia system Media Nav with a 7-inch touch display. The system supports the operation of a radio frequency receiver, communication with a smartphone using Bluetooth, so that you can communicate over the so-called hands-free call without using your hands. It is also possible to connect media (audio and video) via a special USB port. The system also works great and displays everything as a full-fledged navigator.
- The climate control system fully automatically maintains the desired temperature inside the car.
- A wheel stabilization system called ESP, which prevents the car from skidding by changing its torque for each individual wheel.
- Heated windshield and rear windows.
- An anti-lock braking system called ABS, which ensures controllability and good stability of the model when braking. This system is installed in all Renault Sandero Stepway trim levels without exception.
- Rear integrated parking sensor.
- An electronic system called RSC, which helps prevent the car from overturning; if a roll occurs, the system reduces the speed of the power unit and turns on the anti-lock braking system.
- When braking very sharply, the hazard warning lights are activated automatically.
Distinctive features
It is not difficult for any automaker to make an imitation of a crossover from a regular passenger car. There is even a clear example of how this is done in practice:
- — install longer springs and shock absorbers;
- — widen the wheel arches;
- - increase the diameter of the wheels;
- — install a special aerodynamic suspension;
- — install roof rails on the body roof.
It is these measures that help increase ground clearance, while the car body visually increases, which in appearance brings it closer to a classic SUV. But in the case of the Renault Sandero Stepway model, experts also changed its dimensions.
That is why, if you are offered to purchase a part from Sandero for Stepway as a replacement during repairs, then carefully measure it, since their dimensions are often incompatible with each other.
Engineers from France made a slight increase in body parts, which actually affected the appearance of the Renault Sandero Stepway, plus everything else changed the quality of the car's chassis, and the character of the model changed somewhat while driving, both on a city road and on a rural road.
Technical specifications Renault Sandero Stepway 2015
The engine compartment did not become a testing ground for the flight of technical thought. The previous 1.6 liter petrol unit is calibrated to 2 power levels – 82 hp. and 102 hp Technically, this is explained by the number of valves in the engine gas distribution system. The more powerful engine has 16 valves. This scheme helps him accelerate to 180 km/h and show his agility in the first hundred in 10.5 seconds. The younger brother is inferior to him by 10 km/h and almost 1 second.
Photo of an off-road hatchback engine
In terms of efficiency, which are more important for many, the difference is also insignificant, but still in favor of a more modern and powerful engine. When driving around the city, such a car will run out of gas after 500 km. Its urban fuel consumption should not exceed 9.4 liters per hundred. As you move away from the center beyond the city limits, the advantages become less noticeable. Outside the city, on the highway, the efficiency of both units is absolutely the same.
The pseudo-off-road nature of the Stepway is emphasized by the lack of all-wheel drive. The front-wheel drive version with a manual 5-speed gearbox remains uncontested. The issue of installing a modern transmission based on an “automatic” is being studied with prospects that are not yet entirely clear.

Engines
Renault does not meet all the needs of a potential Stepway buyer. In the first generation, Sandero was offered with gasoline engines, as well as with manual transmission and automatic transmission. In the second generation, the new Sandero Stepway does not have an automatic transmission. A diesel engine is installed on European-assembled cars, but it is not even offered for Russia.
New Stepways are being assembled in Togliatti. For Russian buyers, Renault offers the painfully familiar 8 and 16 valve engines. The engines fully comply with Euro-5 environmental standards. The eight-valve unit was reconfigured and the power decreased from 84 horses to 82 forces, but the peak appears already at 5000 rpm. The main thing is that the engine produces more thrust at low speeds.
The 16-valve unit has not changed. It still has 102 hp. and 145 Nm of torque. The French from Renault left two extra horses, which affect the calculation of transport tax. This unit is, of course, more powerful than an 8-valve unit, but the torque peaks at higher revs.
As for fuel consumption on the Sandero Stepway, it is approximately 9.8 - 11.5 liters for a sixteen-valve unit. However, the difference in appetite between the two engines is small - from 0.4 liters. in the urban cycle.
Renault Sandero Stepway – car review
Renault Sandero Stepway / Renault Sandero Stepway
The updated Renault Sandero Stepway II entered the Russian market in November 2014. This compact hatchback is made in the spirit of the second generation Sandero. Recognizable contours are complemented by details that emphasize the courageous character and high versatility of the model. Massive wheel arches, protective unpainted plastic linings and longitudinal luggage rails give the new Renault Sandero Stepway an exceptionally expressive and charismatic appearance. Victory over rough terrain and light off-road conditions is ensured by the clearance increased by 20 mm, which is now 195 mm. This was achieved thanks to modified shock absorbers and reconfigured suspension
16-inch alloy wheels with a signature design emphasize the unique style of the Sandero Stepway.
Particular attention is paid to the combination of internal interior elements. The new dashboard design is implemented in an intuitive language with convenient layout of adjustments and other controls
High-quality and practical plastic enhances the pleasant experience, and the wide variety of available options will brighten up any trip. In addition, Renault Sandero Stepway boasts previously unavailable equipment, including heated seats, cruise control, climate system, multimedia center and rear parking sensors. The production of the all-terrain hatchback is carried out at AvtoVAZ.
For the Russian market, Renault has prepared 2 trim levels of its all-terrain hatchback. In the standard version of Life, the model is equipped by default with steel wheels R16 (alloy styling), bumpers in body color, factory crankcase protection, roof rails, fog lights and DRLs, a heating and ventilation system with air recirculation, electric windows in the front, adjustable seats and heating, heated and electrically adjustable mirrors, cruise control, anti-theft device. The Drive equipment line additionally includes a multifunctional audio system (AUX/USB connectors, 4 speakers, Bluetooth, Hands Free function, steering wheel controls), electric rear door windows, automatic climate system, outside temperature sensor, remote engine start, as well as chrome-plated interior door handles and leather-wrapped steering wheel. Options include an improved media system with navigation and an expanded package of functions, rear parking sensors and ESP directional stability. Front airbags, ABS, electronic brake force distribution, three-point seat belts with an audible reminder are available in the list of basic equipment for all Renault Sandero Stepway trim levels.
Options
Additional options have appeared, but not available in all trim levels.
Options overview:
- Climate control for automatically maintaining the set temperature in the cabin.
- Multimedia navigation center Media Nav with 7 inch touch screen. Supports radio operation and communication with a mobile phone via Bluetooth for hands-free communication. It is possible to connect media media (video and audio) via the USB port. Media Nav also works as a navigator.
- ABS is an anti-lock braking system that ensures vehicle stability and control during braking. The system is installed in all configurations.
- ESP is a stabilization system that prevents the car from skidding by changing the torque for each wheel.
- RSC is an electronic anti-rollover system; when a roll is detected, it reduces engine speed and activates the anti-lock braking system.
- Heated rear and windshield.
- Rear parking sensor.
- Automatic alarm activation during sudden braking.
Let's sum it up
Owners of the Renault Sandero Stepway, so to speak, potential or actual, often worry that the model, when its body is raised, loses its stability, and on turns, even small ones, the roll increases. The car designers of the model asked themselves exactly these pressing questions. And therefore, for Stepway, its body was somewhat narrowed by the developers, but it was decided that its original wheelbase would remain the same. So, the center of gravity began to concentrate in the center of the car. In the Privilege configuration, the SUV is equipped with the following safety options:
- - RSC - if the automation senses the car’s roll, it begins to reduce the speed of the power plant, turns on the anti-lock braking system specifically for braking in order to prevent the car from turning over;
- — ESP – this system automatically changes the torque on each wheel, which helps prevent skidding on the highway.
Such a high seating position does not turn the Stepway into a full-fledged SUV, but it helps owners take advantage of its clear and unique advantages.
Top speed Renault Sandero Stepway
One of the main rules of behavior on the road is as follows - the speed of the car must be safe! Experiments with driving at exorbitant speeds are best left to professional racing drivers.
However, many Stepway owners are interested in what is the maximum speed that the Renault Sandero Stepway can develop?
We will talk about this in our article today.
On the Stepways speedometers, depending on the modification of the cars, the maximum value is 200 or 201 km/h. However, this does not mean that the car is capable of reaching such speed. The Stepway will not go 200 km/h per hour, even in the presence of suitable conditions (downhill and with a good tailwind). Fortunately, we are not aware of cases where Stepway owners managed to accelerate the car to such speed.
According to the officially stated characteristics, Stepway is capable of reaching a maximum speed of 160-170 km/h (depending on engine power). In general, this is an objective figure, which is confirmed by real reviews from numerous owners.
How dangerous is it to drive on the Stepway at top speed?
In general, you need to drive at a speed that is safe under specific road conditions and does not violate traffic rules. Based on this alone, traveling at maximum speed, in any car, is very dangerous to life!
But if we already touched on the topic of maximum speed, then we will say that at 165-170 km/h it is not very comfortable to drive on Stepway, or rather, very uncomfortable, because the car is tall and does not behave very stable. In addition, the Stepway engine runs at crazy speed at this speed, emitting a frightening roar. Fuel consumption will also be corresponding. And Stepway accelerates to maximum speeds for a long time, heavily and reluctantly, as if asking its owner - “maybe it’s not necessary?”
Under conditions of a perfectly flat road, a comfortable speed on Stepway can be considered 120-130 km/h. This is quite enough to not get lost in the general flow. You can drive faster, but you shouldn’t, and certainly don’t try to squeeze the maximum of its capabilities out of the car - Stepway is not designed for high speeds.
To summarize what has been said, I would like to remind you that driving at a speed prohibited by the rules, and even more so at the maximum possible speed, is extremely dangerous to life! When going out on the road, remember that they are waiting for you at home safe and healthy.
That's all, good luck on the roads!
