Will we get to the edge? The ground clearance measurements were surprising: for both cars it is 160 mm - 6 mm more than stated by the manufacturer. This fact aroused legitimate respect, because these are not just millimeters, but synonymous with freedom of movement on Russian dirt roads. At the same time, we note the strong metal engine protection, plastic pipeline protectors on the left side of the bottom and the absence of protruding elements.

Where will we put the loot? According to our measurements, the hatchback is inferior to the sedan in trunk volume by as much as 190 liters (according to the manufacturer - only 96 liters). But the Sandero gives a head start to the Logan in terms of ease of loading luggage and placing long items. The trunk opening of the hatchback is noticeably larger, and there is space behind the folding backrests of the rear seats; “Logan” is content with a narrow window.

A common remark for the two models: it would be more expedient to swap the reclining backrests - the larger one should be placed not behind the driver's seat, but behind the passenger's seat. This would make it possible to transport larger loads by placing the front passenger behind the driver and moving his seat as far forward as possible.

Models vary in capacity. The hatchback is somewhat tighter, this is explained by the shorter wheelbase. The truth and possibilities for transforming the interior are greater.

The interior trim is two-tone plastic. For both models, it is mostly identical: the location of the power window keys (instrument console) and the horn button (at the end of the steering column lever) are similar. The focus is on practicality rather than style.

The dashboard, front door openings and seats are all identical. There are a few minor differences. For example, the Renault Logan, in its maximum configuration, has a flat eyeglass holder on the ceiling; the Sandero does not have such an advantage.

The gearshift levers of both cars are smooth and easy to use.

The main differences in the interior are the design of the B-pillar. The height from head to ceiling in the new Sandero is smaller, which is explained by the more sloping roof and the width of the hatchback's interior. The rear of the sedan is much wider in the shoulder area, which allows three passengers to easily fit in the back seat. The conditions for positioning the legs are also better, since there is more space for these purposes - by 2 cm. In the new hatchback, the back seat is noticeably tighter than in the sedan. Tall or bulky passengers will especially notice this.

In the new restyled models, the interior decoration, although it has undergone changes, becoming more attractive, still has similar features. More additional features have appeared, including adjustment of the driver's seat and steering column, as well as heated mirrors.

IN THE DARK FOREST

On the highway, when driving evenly in top gear, the 75-horsepower Sandero is practically not inferior to the 102-horsepower Logan. Well, if you tuck in the fourth on a slight rise, that’s business. Of course, on mountain serpentines the picture would be completely different, but with a quiet ride in the conditions of central Russia, the loss in dynamics should be compensated by the moderate appetite of the new engine. (By the way, he is not ready to use 92-grade gasoline and requires only 95-grade gasoline.)

What's the reality? We filled the cars to capacity and reset the odometers. After 455 km, Logan had already started burning the remaining half of the 50-liter tank, and Sandero had only just reached the middle. The natural gain in efficiency is approximately 10%.

The asphalt was replaced by a dirt road, and soon we were rolling along the edge of an overgrown field to a secret mushroom place. This path brought several discoveries at once. First: dosing the thrust of a smaller engine is noticeably more difficult. We noted this in the city, too, when we accidentally turned off the Sandero at traffic lights. And when driving “in a whisper” over forest hummocks, you constantly stall. Loganovsky 1.6 with a significant advantage in traction (+ 38 Nm) and a more distinct clutch drive is beyond competition.

Both models have undergone significant restyling over their short production history. And if we compare the first generation, the difference in the appearance of the cars was significant. The second phase of these cars somewhat unified their appearance, adding a large number of common features.

The production of the first Logan trim levels began back in 2005, while Sandero began to be produced in 2008 and quickly won the sympathy of car enthusiasts and specialists. Both cars had a fairly attractive appearance, were equipped with modern and reliable equipment, and their characteristics in terms of efficiency gave them even more advantages over other representatives of the same class of vehicles.


Below is a comparison of representatives of the first and second generations with each other, and here it should be noted that the Logan models in 2009 underwent minor changes, which concerned mainly the interior and exterior design. Despite this, all Logan models that were produced between 2005 and 2013 can be classified as the first generation.

MECHANICS COUNT IN AUTUMN

So, it's time to forget about emotions and dig into the price lists. A very exciting process!

For example, there are almost exact coincidences. The base price of our Sandero with a 75-horsepower 1.2-liter engine is 429 thousand rubles. And Logan for 428 thousand has a 102-horsepower 1.6. Jump two steps up - at the same prices! What do we get by giving an extra thousand rubles and not at all an extra 27 “horses”?

Both cars will be in the “Confort” configuration, but the Sandero already has foglights (the Logan buyer will have to pay an additional 5,000 rubles for them), cruise control (the opponent clenches his fists helplessly), a folding rear seat back and a second pillow safety (the Logan buyer nervously lights a cigarette and prepares to pay 9,000 rubles for a safety package with the same rear backrest and normal headrests). For each car you can buy a winter package (11 thousand and 14 thousand rubles, respectively) - this includes heated seats and mirrors, and for Logan also a heated windshield.

Appearance

If in the previous generation the Sandero hatchback and the classic Logan sedan were completely different from each other, now from the front the cars are very easy to confuse with each other. If we talk about the differences, then you need to look at the cars in profile. Renault designers decided to focus specifically on the similarity of the Sandero to a crossover, which was emphasized by massive rear pillars and original stampings stretching from the rear door handle to the edge of the lamp. In combination with the slight slope of the almost horizontal roof, these elements make the Renault Sandero more massive, despite the fact that in reality the car is shorter than the Logan and does not exceed it in height and width.

But the Renault Logan sedan does not look so respectable. It also features large rear pillars and stampings on the sides of the body, but these design elements are lost against the backdrop of the massive trunk. Interestingly, the new sedan looks heavier than the previous generation Logan. This stylistic decision can be called controversial, since the Renault car has become more solid, but after the update, the appearance cannot be called particularly stylish and dynamic. Renault employees have achieved their goal - two cars built on a common platform look completely different.

From behind, the Renault Sandero does not look as distinctive as the previous generation car, since the massive vertical lights have given way to compact square-shaped lighting equipment. Now it resembles Suzuki, Toyota and even... Chery. Although overall it turned out very stylish - there is no hint of rounded shapes, which did not decorate the previous Sandero too much. There are very few changes in Logan compared to the previous generation - the lights have separate segments, and the bumper has increased in length. However, the Renault sedan remains completely recognizable due to the raised edge of the trunk and sloping rear window pillars.

Heated windshield, Multimedia with navigation system, ESP and rear parking sensors are purchased separately for the Drive package. An acceptable Sandero hatchback, with paid options, will cost 760,000 - 800,000 rubles.

Quite worthy, even in the initial configuration with a 1.6 liter, 82 hp, MKP5 unit - 738,990 rubles, the car was provided with almost all the goodies of the expensive Sandero. In addition, you can purchase Multimedia and heated front glass.
