"Ratnik-1"
Conventionally, the “Ratnik” equipment is five subsystems assembled into one whole: the destruction subsystem, which includes small arms; protection subsystem - all armor; life support subsystem - headphones, filter, clock, flashlights, etc.; control subsystem - optical-electronic aiming and reconnaissance means; power supply subsystem.
Review of the Ratnik traumatic revolver
When the Ratnik revolver went on sale in 2004, many buyers treated it rather coldly. Among other models of traumatic weapons, it looked angular and a completely inconvenient weapon to use. However, all this was just an optical illusion, and therefore, despite the unusual design, this traumatic weapon has proven itself to be a completely effective weapon. At the time of its release, “Ratnik” was one of the weapons of that time that would not fail after just a few shots.
The basis of the “Ratnik” was the “Udar” revolver complex, although the travmat itself had few elements left from its predecessor.
"Ratnik-2"
At the IDEX-2019 arms exhibition, which will be held in the United Arab Emirates, a new Russian set of combat equipment “Ratnik-2” is planned to be shown. The creators claim that such armor allows a fighter to survive even after being hit by armor-piercing sniper bullets from a distance of 10 meters.
As stated by Viktor Kladov, director for international cooperation at the Rostec state corporation, this equipment, which was developed at TsNIITOCHMASH, was created using special technology, which involves the presence of special armor panels placed in the body armor. It is capable of withstanding sniper armor-piercing incendiary bullets fired from the SVD rifle. After such a load, the panel does not even deform on the reverse side, thereby providing the fighter with protection from concussion injuries.
The Ratnik-2 armored helmet also demonstrates a high level of protection. Having a fairly light weight (1 kilogram), it protects the soldier’s head from shrapnel, mines and grenades. It is believed that a fighter wearing such equipment will be able to act more effectively and perform the most difficult tasks without fear of receiving mortal wounds.
Today the troops use second generation equipment. The press service noted that based on the results of combat use, not a single penetration of armor protection was recorded.
In the near future, Ratnik-2 will include additional elements being developed for the next generation of kits. These include medical sensors, an electronic visor that allows you to shoot at the enemy from around a corner, and mine-resistant boots.
“Ratnik” equipment set
Modernization of the army is a serious, large-scale and, most importantly, endless matter. There is no limit to perfection, as they say. Weapons, military equipment, and training systems are being modernized. Over time, innovations are introduced. Certain areas have priority for upgrades, and one of them is custom equipment. One of the most famous examples of such equipment today is the Russian “Warrior” . It is also called the "Future Soldier Kit". However, absolutely fair.
“Warrior” is a kit that contains the latest developments in various fields of science.
Navigation, optics, medicine, computer systems, excellence in the field of personal protection, textiles and clothing. "Ratnik" is a complex of modern defense systems, weapons, ammunition and communications. Work on the complex was carried out by dozens of enterprises of the Russian defense industry, among them the well-known TsNIITOCHMASH, Central Research Institute Cyclone, NPO Spetsmaterialov and others. The general designer of the kit is Vladimir Nikolaevich Lepin.
“Ratnik” includes :
- Aramid overalls Alutex fiber . The overalls can withstand shrapnel from explosions of grenades, shells and mines. In addition, the overalls are fire resistant.
- The main protection is provided by the 6B45 body armor , protection class 5A. The body armor can be a basic configuration weighing up to 9 kilograms, or an extended configuration and weighing up to 15 kilograms. The body armor can serve as a life jacket in a marine version. The extended package includes groin protection, side bulletproof plates, and anti-fragmentation shoulder pads. In addition to the body armor, the protection kit includes a protective helmet that can withstand being hit by a pistol bullet from a distance of 5-10 meters.
- Additional protection is provided by shields on the knee and elbow joints, protecting against bruises. The soldier's eyes are protected by goggles that can withstand small (up to 6 mm) fragments flying at speeds of up to 350 m/s.
- The Sagittarius system is used for communication and coordination . The system is equipped with means of communication, processing and display of information. “Sagittarius” allows all collected data to be transferred to the command post, from where the soldier’s location is also known. This function is performed by a communicator, using GLONASS and GPS to determine the exact coordinates of the fighter’s location. The communications complex also includes headphones that allow you to talk and coordinate actions during combat.
- Set of weapons . The main weapon (machine gun, machine gun or sniper rifle), equipped with modern aiming systems: thermal imaging and night vision. The weapons also include: a video module for firing from cover (consists of a thermal imaging sight and a helmet-mounted control monitor, to which the image from the sight is transmitted); various thermal imaging sights for different types of weapons (there is also an option for reconnaissance) from the Central Research Institute "Cyclone"; collimator sight "Krechet" and other devices. The set of weapons also includes the NB-2 “Bumblebee” 6X9 (or ShN-2 6X9-1 bayonet ).
- Battery for recharging all electronic devices in the complex. The charger allows you to charge the battery from almost any current source, direct or alternating. The operating life of one battery cycle is 12-14 hours.
- Life supporting system . It includes different backpacks (universal with a volume of 50 liters, a raid backpack with a capacity of 10 liters, an unloading vest with a weight of 24 kilograms, the elements of which can be quickly replaced with more suitable ones), camouflage kits, a ventilated T-shirt, a vest with compartments for ammunition, mat, balaclava, mosquito net. To carry out tasks in winter, a foldable heat-insulating pad, removable insulation for winter use and a cap are provided.
- Life support equipment at a rest stop : sleeping bag, raincoat, tent, filters for water purification and autonomous heat sources.
- Squad commanders will receive personal tablet computers designed to solve tactical problems and coordinate personnel.
- From 2020, it is planned to introduce a “friend or foe” sensor-identifier . The sensor will allow you to determine the location of opponents and comrades-in-arms, regardless of their weapons, camouflage and other equipment.
- It is also planned to equip the kit with an exoskeleton.
The extended set weighs 22 kilograms, not counting weapons and ammunition, but with an assault version of the 6B43 body armor. The helmet weighs 1.056 kg.
Protective equipment covers 90% of a soldier's body. The design of the equipment requires continuous wearing for 48 hours.
The average lifespan of the Ratnik kit is 5 years. The complex is transferred from one fighter to another until it is written off. This does not apply to a T-shirt, which is intended for one soldier, and a summer uniform, intended for two. All other parts of the equipment imply a longer period of use.
As for the weapon models used in the kit, they include Kalashnikov assault rifles, modernized machine guns, and the ORSIS sniper complex.
The “Ratnik” complex is not inferior in its capabilities to Western sets of equipment created on the “soldier of the future” principle.
Main characteristics of the Ratnik traumatic revolver
Despite the design features, almost the entire five-shot revolver, except for the parts that bear the load during shooting (they are steel), consists of an aluminum alloy that can withstand powerful charges with minimal recoil.
Some Ratnik models were produced with an aluminum drum to lighten the weight of the weapon. This did not affect the quality of the revolver, because the ammunition casings were made of thick-walled metal, and the cartridges themselves were of high quality and were not subject to rupture or deformation.
The remaining technical characteristics of the injury are as follows:
- Length – 169 mm;
- Height – 136 mm;
- Width – 44 mm;
- Weight without ammunition – no more than 500 g;
- Barrel length – 51 mm;
- Cartridge caliber – 13 mm;
- 13x45 cartridge with two rubber bullets;
- Drum capacity – 5 cartridges.
The effective destruction range with a projectile kinetic energy of 60 J is 5 meters, which is very good for a traumatist.
What is the “Ratnik” equipment and what is its feature?
In general, the introduction of “Ratnik” equipment is part of a global project, the goal of which is to improve the quality and combat effectiveness of each individual soldier, through the use of modern achievements of science and technology in the field of navigation, night vision systems, tracking the psychophysiological state of a soldier, and the use of advanced materials in manufacturing armor and clothing fabrics. A fairly large number of enterprises participated in the development of the equipment set, such as FSUE TsNIITOCHMASH, NPO Special Equipment and Communications, JSC Jupiter Plant (Valdai), OJSC Central Research Institute Cyclone, NPO Spetsmaterialov, Tchaikovsky Textiles and many others. As a result, the “Ratnik” kit will have to compete with similar developments that are being carried out in other large countries of the world.

Located in the village of Storozhevoy at an altitude of more than 2000 meters, the mountain motorized rifle brigade is known for its
that it includes the only pack and transport platoon in the Russian army. It employs 56 permanent and 24 variable horses.
One team of four horses can carry up to 250 kilograms of cargo per day.
A horse platoon has no alternative for transporting military cargo in the highlands.
During the Russian-Pakistani exercise "Friendship 2016", which takes place at the training center for special forces in the city of Cherat, military personnel of the two countries used up about ten thousand ammunition. The Pakistani military especially liked the Russian Val assault rifle for silent shooting. This was reported by the press service of the Russian Ministry of Defense.
Mountain riflemen from the 34th brigade, based in the village of Storozhevoy, and the special forces of the Pakistani army exchanged experience in shooting from various weapons, having previously studied their features.
In particular, Russian intelligence officers tested Pakistani 5.56 mm M4 rifles and 9 mm Glock pistols. Pakistani soldiers fired from AK-74 assault rifles, PKM and Pecheneg machine guns, GP-25 Koster under-barrel grenade launchers, as well as special PSS self-loading pistols.
However, according to the Russian Ministry of Defense, the military personnel of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan were particularly interested in the special “Val” assault rifle. The fact is that the fire noise when firing from the “Val” is significantly lower than when firing from other weapons. The machine gun uses 9-mm SP-5 and SP-6 sniper cartridges, capable of penetrating third-class body armor and lightly armored vehicles. The magazine capacity is 20 rounds, weight - 2.5 kilograms. In addition, the machine gun is equipped with a sighting device that allows you to change the range to the target by 400 meters and a rail for attaching day and night optical sights.
Snipers from the two countries exchanged experience in shooting from Russian Vintorez and SVD sniper rifles, as well as Pakistani Remington sniper rifles and the AW high-precision sniper rifle. Firing from all types of weapons was carried out at various targets at a distance of 50 to 500 meters.
Changes in revolver design
Due to the fact that the parameters of the ammunition changed, changes were made to the design of the Ratnik revolver itself. “Ratnik 410×45” has slightly different parameters. For example, the weight of a revolver increased from 500 grams to 700 grams due to a change in the material (made of steel) from which the drum is made.
The bore and sighting device also underwent minor changes, which only improved the performance of the weapon.
It must be said that the improved version of the “Warrior”, although it has shown itself to be an excellent example of a weapon for self-defense, still does not prevent lovers of good weapons from feeling nostalgic for the first model, which is rarely seen on sale anymore.
In general, the Ratnik revolver has proven itself to be a domestically produced traumatic weapon. This revolver model is no worse than its foreign counterparts.
"Ratnik 410×45TK" - a modernized model of the "Ratnik"
Despite all its many advantages and a minimum of disadvantages, the Ratnik revolver was removed from production for further development. As a result, the “Ratnik 410×45TK” revolver appeared on sale, the name of which included the designation of caliber and ammunition. True, the caliber of the revolver is not 410 mm - which in itself is unthinkable (this is no longer self-defense, but erasing the enemy from the scene of an attack), but only 0.41 inches with a sleeve length of 45 mm.
"Ugly duck"
The first Ratnik model appeared in 2004. He immediately received the nickname "The Ugly Duckling" for his unsightly and angular appearance. Meanwhile, the revolver almost immediately found its admirer.
One feature that caught my eye was that its frame was made of aluminum. The developers tried to implement the idea of reducing the weight of the weapon, but this step called into question the reliability and strength of the design.
But only the frame turned out to be aluminum. The release mechanism itself, including the drum, was made of steel.
Oddities in Ratnik’s appearance appear already at the first inspection. The trigger is so hidden in the frame that only a small part of it protrudes out, which is covered with a notch designed for a convenient cocking process.
There is a practical touch to this design. Thanks to the hidden trigger, the revolver became streamlined. This quality is especially important for any self-defense weapon, since in emergency cases you will have to remove it from a holster or pocket quickly enough. The weapon should not cling to anything. The shortened barrel also looks unusual, but it adds a streamlined look to the revolver.
The Ratnik trigger is protected by a fairly large safety guard. Users note that this bracket allows you to shoot a pistol without taking off your gloves. In addition, when holding and aiming a weapon with both hands, the fingers of the second hand are conveniently located on the bracket.
Unfortunately, the paintwork on the revolver frame left much to be desired. Chips appear on it, and the paint along with the varnish peels off. A similar phenomenon occurred in almost every revolver of the “Ratnik” model.
The caliber of cartridges for this revolver is 13 mm. To be more precise, to characterize the cartridge it is also necessary to indicate its length. The first models made it possible to load five 13x45 mm cartridges into the drum. Today you can only buy cartridges with steel cases, although they were originally made of aluminum. Two bullets were placed in them. Each bullet had a mass of 2.2 g, which made it possible to develop an energy of 60 J. The diameter of each ball was 12.5 mm. In principle, such parameters were quite suitable for traumatic weapons. Although according to official data the aimed firing range was 10 meters, practice has shown that this distance is approximately two times less.
It is more convenient to evaluate the accuracy of a shot by the distance on the target between two points where the balls from the same cartridge hit. Already at a distance of 5 meters to the target, the spread reaches 15 cm. This information is especially important for the defender, since there is a possibility of hitting prohibited places (eye, temple), which can lead to tragedy.
The aiming devices that the warrior revolver has are a front sight and rear sight. Despite the designers' attempts to create them in such a way that they would not cling to clothing parts, it was not possible to disguise the protrusions. The rear sights are not adjustable, but some owners talk about the possibility of filing the grooves with a file. If we think objectively, then with relatively low rates of shooting accuracy, there is no particular point in adjusting the rear sight.
If we judge the “Ratnik” model based on owner reviews, a rather positive picture emerges. Everyone noted the oddities of the design, but almost everyone considered this revolver to be practical and reliable. It is important that after acquisition nothing needed to be corrected or remade. Not immediately, but still the model received a positive review from the mass user. If we dwell on the shortcomings, there are only a couple of objective points.
- Poor quality of coating. Many users have turned this disadvantage into an advantage, since the places where the paint has peeled off can be painted in any colors you wish.
- Protruding rear sight with offset slot. The displacement is due to compensation for the reaction when fired. Sighting devices cannot be completely veiled, so this drawback is simply impossible to get rid of.
Disadvantages of the design and operation of the Ratnik revolver
"Ratnik", according to many buyers of this weapon, for all its advantages, does not have too many disadvantages. One of them is the unstable coating of the revolver frame.
The coating begins to peel and peel almost immediately after the first shot. Therefore, if you often use a revolver, then soon the revolver will turn from a beautiful, black weapon into an unsightly and unaesthetic specimen.
True, this drawback of the revolver does not bother many owners, and they cover their pet with a different color, changing its appearance to their liking.
Another not very pleasant aspect of the injury is its sighting mechanism, which is not quite familiar to shooters - the rear sight sits high above the frame and is offset in the center. This need compensates for the deflection of projectiles when firing. However, Ratnik still cannot boast of the accuracy and accuracy of fire.
How to buy a traumatic pistol
Before purchasing a traumatic weapon, you must obtain the appropriate permit from the licensing department. The presence of such a document is determined by the law “On Weapons”. In modern online stores it is possible to purchase trauma equipment at low prices, and no documents are required. The client has different payment methods and many ways to deliver the purchase.
However, it must be remembered that permitting documents will have to be issued for further storage of weapons. It is not a fact that the seller will provide all the documentation with which you can register the barrel and obtain a license. Buying a revolver in a gun store is more preferable, although the price can reach 25-30 thousand rubles, while online stores offer Ratnik for only 17-20 thousand. Despite the marketing moves, no one has yet canceled the legal framework.
