The SOK-95M “Vepr-308 Super” deserves special mention; the main changes in it affected the stock. She became whole. For production, beech or walnut wood is used.
The entire product has acquired a softer and more streamlined shape. Such a sharp change in appearance contributed to the perception of this weapon as a hunting weapon, and not a conversion from the PKK. This also led to a weight reduction of 100 grams.
The changes also affected the carbine barrel. It became more powerful, which led to an increase in the accuracy and range of an effective shot. The increase in mass was avoided by longitudinal valleys. The MTC (muzzle brake-compensator) has also been improved. It was combined with a flame arrester.
This reduced recoil and avoided temporary blinding in poor visibility conditions after the shot. The mount for optical sights has been moved to the gas box, which is a drawback (the aiming line has decreased).
The fuse was also redesigned. It's now push-button. It has become more convenient to use and, unlike the old flag-type one, it is almost silent.
A new type of magazine has also appeared - for 3 rounds.
The Vepr-308 Super carbine also has its own separate model range:
- SOK-95M “Vepr-308 Super” – chambered for 7.62x51;
- SOK-95MS “Vepr-308 Super Sport” (Production discontinued.) – uses 7.62x51 stock;
- SOK-35 “Vepop-35 Sport” – uses .35 Remington ammunition. Also no longer produced.
Features of Vepr carbines and their modifications
"Vepr" - smooth-bore and self-loading carbines, which were produced taking into account the base of the 7.62 mm Kalashnikov machine gun. They are used for hunting medium and large sized animals. Also, such carbines are bought for sports competitions.
How the design works
All Vepr carbines use components and parts of the Kalashnikov machine gun. Due to the energy of the powder gases, as well as the return spring, the carbine reloads automatically. The main difference from the RPK is the design of the butt and the structure of the trigger mechanism. Any model is equipped with an orthopedic butt and a fairly long forend without an upper protective pad. The carbine can be used at temperatures of -50+50 degrees.
Main characteristics
Vepr carbines have the following characteristics:
- The user can chrome plate the barrel and chamber, which will affect the service life of the weapon.
- The user can use special optics or conduct targeted shooting.
- Automatic recharging is in progress.
- A non-removable flame arrester located on the body can reduce flare-ups.
- To protect yourself, the user can use a safety switch.
- The built-in rubber shock absorber significantly softens recoil at the end of the stock.
The lineup
Vepr carbines are presented in the following modifications: SOK-94
- the very first carbine model, released in 1995.
Designed for 7.62x39 mm cartridges. SOK-95
is a self-loading model for hunting, which has been improved and modified for imported ammunition with caliber 7.62.308 Winchester.
Super
is the third model, released in 1998.
The main difference from previous models is the presence of a solid stock. The structural assembly of this carbine is as close as possible to the AK. Super-Sport
is the latest modification of this type.
Suitable for 7.62x51mm cartridges. Pioneer
- produced since 2000.
A modification for small caliber has been developed. Vepr-12 Molot
- refers to a 12-gauge smoothbore weapon.
It is used not only for hunting, but also for self-defense or for sporting purposes. 1B
is a rifled carbine presented in military style.
It is equipped with a plastic forend and a folding stock with shock absorbers. Presented in different modifications: VPO-125 / k.223Rem, 126 / k.7.62 x 39, 127 / k.308Win, 129 / k.7.62 x 54R, 147 / k.308Win, 148 / k.5 ,45 x 39. Hunter
- equipped with a one-piece stock model with a classic appearance and a semi-pistol grip.
There are two types of placement of the front sight - next to the muzzle or in the very center of the barrel. The carbine is presented in the following model range: VPO-101 / k.308Win, VPO-101-M / k.308Win, VPO-102 / k.30-06Spr, VPO-102-M / k.30-06Spr, VPO-124 / k.7.62x54R. SOK-98
is a rifle produced for export. Designed for 5.45x39 mm ammunition.
Hunting with a weapon " Vepr"
“, most often, it is carried out on a large or medium-sized animal. This is possible due to the increased bullet caliber, power and firing range.
Popular models
There are several models of carbines that are in particular demand: Vepr-12 Molot
- a smooth-bore model, which was produced in three modifications.
This carbine differs from others in the presence of a removable flash suppressor. There is a mechanism for locking the trigger, which prevents shooting when the structure is folded. In the Molot-01
, the barrel is increased to 520 mm. It is also possible to fire with the stock folded. Molot-02 is a smoothbore carbine with a barrel length of 680 mm. This model is complemented by a base for placing bushings. Super - rifled model chambered for 7.62x51 mm cartridges. Here is an enlarged barrel, the length of which is 625 mm.
Hunter-308
— the peculiarity of this carbine is its semi-pistol grip and classic design. There are two types of front sight placement. If it is located in the middle part, then the length of the sight increases significantly. If the front sight is located next to the cut, then the radial vibrations and cantileverness are reduced.
When creating Vepr
"The design of Kalashnikov assault rifles was used. They work smoothly in any extreme conditions. Thanks to a properly designed design, you can use different sights when shooting - optical and mechanical. Carbines are distinguished by high accuracy of fire, increased service life of all components of the mechanism and stability.
Long distance setting
After this “rough” adjustment, you have achieved accurate fire at a distance of 50-100 meters. However, no one shoots from rifled weapons at such distances; this is the lot of smooth-bore weapons - shotguns and slug guns. From rifled rifles, fire is usually fired at a distance of 200-300 meters. Therefore, you must make a “finish” zero at the distance at which you actually intend to shoot.
Zeroing an optical sight on a carbine at the “finishing” distance is carried out in exactly the same way as described above. However, keep in mind that the click price in this case will be different, and you will have to adjust it by trial and error. Using this method, achieve accurate fire at your chosen distance.

Collimator or optical and which crown.
POSP is how reliable are marriages? It’s understandable, but in order to be given the right advice, you need to know what goals you are pursuing:
shooting at short distances at a running animal (corral) is one thing from a tower to a long distance at a stationary animal - this is completely different, or “breaking glass” at 100 meters is a third. etc
I have POSP 2-6*24. Suitable for short distances (2) and medium distances (up to 6). The backlight is used depending on the situation.
It is planned to shoot at approximately 200-500m. What kind of mounting bracket and sight? import or domestic.
At such distances, you need another carbine, and the POSP is unlikely to be a good choice.
And if crowns and Leapers optics. At 300m. target 20x20cm. will it pull?
Ask this question in the section “Rifle through the eyes of the owner” in the topic “Vepr 308 and Vepr Super. “, they will answer in more detail and accurately (I have a Vepr in a different caliber and I don’t shoot at such distances (300-500).

if the meters are hunting, then the boar and posp are suitable, if they are metric, then buy a decent carbine (bolt, imported)

If Vepr makes groups of 5 cm, then what’s stopping you from shooting at 300-500 m? Or is this some kind of special distance for you? On an emergency shot from an AK, standing with your hands at 300 m, the chest beats one at a time; whoever is more agile will hit at 500 from the open. What is the problem?

it becomes difficult to shoot, especially at targets indicated by the vehicle
fresh addition, but hard to believe
I did this with an AK-74 about a month ago
Probably the fact that the slaughter zone of a boar is smaller than the chest figure ..
It’s always interesting - how does everyone shoot at the “kill zones” of an animal that flies between the trees and is present in the field of view for sometimes 2-3 seconds?

In wounded wounds. It is better not to use Vepr 308 on animals further than 200m.
I have seen more than once how people missed at 20 meters or were hit in the guts. What to do?
For this purpose, Vepr needs a good red dot sight. Which can even be installed on a gas outlet pipe with an integrated Weaver strip. These are being produced right now. The side crown is an outdated vestige of the Soviet era.
Agree. But, in practice, a red tube on the front sight is much more convenient.
