The main features of the Russian Renault Captur, which distinguish it from its European predecessor, are that it has dimensions different from the French one. The fact is that the Russian version of the crossover is based on the Duster, a fairly large SUV.

Other areas also give excellent results, ranging from 205 to 210 mm. In fact, everything is quite logical. Since the French took the Duster platform as a basis, and even improved it, the result is such a considerable ground clearance.

The technical characteristics of the two models are similar when comparing the Kaptur with the Duster, but differences still exist. The new Kaptur is no longer as oaky as its ancestor

When you get into the car, the first thing your attention turns to is the steering wheel - Renault has used an electro-hydraulic system rather than a traditional hydraulic booster. This makes the steering easier and distinguishes it from the heaviness of Duster.

The system is well configured and the performance is high. But only in the front-wheel drive version - the all-wheel drive version has a hydraulic booster.

Volume of interior space and interior features

We won’t talk about what kind of interior and what “goodies” the Kaptur’s interior has. Today, the size of the cabin and its comfort are important to us.

When entering the cabin, there is no feeling that it is small, although some discomfort is felt in the driver's seat. This is especially true for tall people, whose height is more than 180 cm. Of course, it is more convenient to be here than in the European Captur, but there are also unpleasant moments.

For example, the rear sofas, which can comfortably accommodate only two adults. There's nothing wrong with that: most modern crossovers don't have much to offer. But this one, in appearance, seems considerable. The interior here resembles a Duster.

But no matter how strange it may sound, it is tighter. All because of the thick pillars, which reduce interior space. The only thing that brightens up the cramped space is high-quality finishing and a modern, stylish design. The size of the wipers is as follows: 65 cm for the driver and 35 for the passenger.

Now about the luggage compartment of the car. Renault Kaptur has an average trunk size for SUVs of 387 liters. It is quite roomy, you can put here: a spare tire, tools, several suitcases or small furniture. Of course, it can be expanded by folding down the rear seats.

As a result, the driver receives 1200 liters. This volume allows you to transport large household appliances or long tables. It is worth noting that these calculations were carried out specifically with the all-wheel drive version of the crossover, which has a raised floor. The trunk width is 995 and the floor length is 890.

Interior

The advantages of the Renault Captur car include a roomy and spacious interior space, which has received thoughtful ergonomics. Among the finishing, high-quality materials can be distinguished. The new product is comfortable and cozy. Five adult passengers of any height and weight fit inside without any apparent difficulty.

There is plenty of legroom, so those sitting in the back won't complain about the front seatbacks. If we talk about the driver's seat, it turned out to be high, so the degree of visibility is high. You can also change its position in height and angle of inclination. Using a wide range of settings, you can adjust the Renault Captur chair for a person with different dimensions.

More expensive trim levels received the function of heating passenger seats. The doors are wide and have a comfortable fit. The rigidity of the plastics used is a little disappointing. On the console you can see the standard power plant start button, which is very pleasing.

All instruments in the cabin are placed conveniently and intuitively, so the new owner will not have to get used to the crossover for a long time. The upper part of the center console has a 7-inch screen of the Media Navi multimedia system that supports touch input, and the French engineers decided to place the mirror control unit on the left door.

The car’s “steering wheel” is multifunctional and has control keys for various systems. Despite the convenient distance from the owner, the steering wheel can be adjusted according to the angle of inclination. Inside the new French crossover Renault Kaptur there are not many compartments for storing small items. It gets to the point where there is simply nowhere to put even a mobile device. European variants of the Kaptur have a box-shaped glove box mounted on full-extension hinges. Our vehicles are only equipped with a traditional drop top.

Although three people can sit in the back, tall passengers will not be so comfortable due to the sloping roof putting pressure on their heads. The seats installed in front are of a fairly simple design, lack lateral support, but have a wide range of settings. The luggage compartment has smooth walls and a volume of 387 liters.

You can remove the rear seatbacks in a 60/40 split, but you won't be able to achieve a completely flat floor. The trunk volume can be increased to a maximum of 1,200 liters of usable space. The underground place has a spare 16-inch wheel.

Characteristics

The body of the Russian crossover is load-bearing, galvanized. It has a five-door, five-seater interior.

As for the power configuration of the car, it is carried out by four-cylinder in-line gasoline engines of the 5th Euro ecology class in two versions - with a volume of 1 thousand 698 (model H4MK) and 1 thousand 998 centimeters cubed (engine model F4R).

Moreover, the first has a power of 114 horses at 5 thousand 500 engine revolutions, while the second already develops 143 horses at 5 thousand 750 crankshaft revolutions.

Regarding dynamics, the first has a maximum speed of 171 km per hour, while the second shows a speed of 180 km per hour on the highway, with a corresponding acceleration time to hundreds of 12.5 and 11.2 seconds.

Gasoline consumption:

• in city mode, 9.3 and 11.7 liters, respectively;
• on the highway - 6.3 and 7.3;
• and when driving in a city/highway combination – 7.4 and 8.7 liters.

The H4MK engine is equipped with a five-mode manual transmission with front-wheel drive, while the F4R has a four-mode automatic transmission with torque transmission both to the front and with the ability to connect rear-wheel drive.

As for the front suspension, both models have an independent one, equipped with McPherson springs. And the rear - on the model with the H4MK engine, is semi-independent on springs, and on the F4R - the rear suspension is the same independent, but with a spring-multi-link design.

Before talking about the dimensions of the Captur, one should take into account the fact that the designers had the task of developing a family crossover. This means combining the comfort and spacious family seating in the cabin with the compactness of city parking. Judging by user reviews, the so-called golden mean was achieved, since the car turned out to be, in their opinion, pleasant and convenient for family trips.

It is thanks to the successful design that it was possible to achieve the external visual perception of this car as a small car, although in fact it has a spacious interior.

For Russians, two parameters traditionally pay close attention - ground clearance and luggage compartment volume. As for the ground clearance of 20.4 centimeters, for Russians with the peculiarities of local roads and snowy climate, this is a pretty decent figure. Although, to be fair, it should be mentioned that the European version of the Kaptur has a ground clearance of only 17 centimeters.

The Russian Renault Kaptur turned out to be a pretty decent urban crossover, which has good characteristics and configurations. This car is ideal for family trips.

Especially for young families who prefer comfort, design and high cross-country ability. All this is complemented by a spacious interior and luggage compartment.

At the same time, the domestic Kaptur, despite the increased fuel consumption, fully justifies its purpose with its characteristics of acceleration and power.

Moreover, these costs are not an obstacle to the supply of Russian Captur, both to India and to the countries of South America. Which suggests that the French Capturs are losing competition to more powerful Russian-assembled vehicles.
