Toyota Land Cruiser 200 fuel consumption 4.5, 4.7

Land Cruiser is the longest-living model of the Japanese company. Its history begins with the release of the first civilian SUV in 1951. In 2007, production of a new generation of the brand began under the index 200, which continued until 2012. This model differs from its predecessor with a heavier suspension, powerful brakes and reinforced roof pillars. To date, the model has gone through 2 restylings. The line of engines is represented by several engines: 4.0 AT+MT, 4.5d AT+MT, 4.6 AT, 4.7 AT and 5.7 AT. Initially, only models equipped with 4.5 liter (235 hp) diesel power plants were imported into the Russian market.

Maximum speed is 200 km/h, consumption in the city is 19.0 l, outside the city – 11.7 l/100 km. The 4.5-liter turbodiesel produces power from 235 to 286 hp, and a top speed of 210 km/h. Consumption in the urban cycle is 12l/100km, on the highway – 9.1/100km. Data from engines 4.0, 4.7 and 5.7: power 243, 288 and 381 hp, maximum acceleration - from 200 to 210 km/h, average gasoline consumption - 12.4, 14.4 and 15 liters, respectively.

The fuel consumption of a Toyota Land Cruiser depends on several factors: the size and type of engine, gearbox and the amount of horsepower. This indicator is indirectly affected by driving style and the use of air conditioning.

    Official information

Under the hood of the 200 series is a diesel unit with a displacement of 4.5 liters. It is available in three versions with 235, 272 and 286 hp. Their fuel consumption is 12 – 11.2 – 12 liters in the city and 9.1 – 8.5 – 9.1 liters on the highway, respectively.

    Owner reviews on diesel consumption

    • Nikolay, Kharkov. Toyota Land Cruiser 4.5d AT 2014. The car copes well with uneven surfaces, especially at high speeds. The constant knocking from the rear is very upsetting - either the seats are poorly secured, or the spare tire. The official dealer said that everything is fine and that's how it should be. Although, as for me, for that kind of money everything should be just perfect. The engine is reliable, consumption is about 13 liters per hundred in the city and 10 liters on the highway. Very bad paintwork.
    • Dmitry, Ulyanovsk. The car is not bad with good dynamics. The 4.5d diesel engine with MT accelerates quite well, despite the weight of the car. Consumes 10-11 liters on average. Before that I drove 100k. There were no problems during the 300 thousand mileage. The paintwork on the 200th model is much worse. After driving on the highway, quite a lot of chips appeared, the brakes were also rather bad, the braking distance was too long.
    • Igor, Astrakhan. Previously owned a Camry. Later I decided to change the car and definitely decided that it would be a Toyota, since only consumables needed to be changed from maintenance. Now I have covered almost 50 thousand km on the 2008 Cruiser. During the entire period there were no problems, the car is simply indestructible. Diesel consumption by a 4.5 engine with AT is about 13-13.5 liters in the city. On the highway at 120 km/h it produces a maximum of 10.5 liters.
    • Ivan, Makhachkala. Land Cruiser 200 4.5d MT 2014. A car with only advantages. Very cool looks and great power under the hood. In terms of comfort, the car is comparable to a luxury sedan. Before that there was an X5. After I switched to Toyota, at first I was worried that I would have to get used to something very clumsy to drive, but I was pleasantly surprised when I realized that I was wrong. The engine is very dynamic. It consumes relatively little, in general, 12-13 liters.
    • Mikhail, Moscow. For a long time I was choosing a car between the GL and LC 200. In the end I took the 200th Cruiser. Overall a good SUV, but there are some shortcomings. Firstly, the high consumption is annoying; it does not coincide with the official data at all. In summer the figure is 14-16 liters, and in winter it’s 20. Sound insulation is rather weak. After a short time, a creaking sound appeared in the cabin. One of the advantages is the suspension. Model 2013, 4.5d AT.

Fuel consumption rate per 100 km

In addition to the 4.5-liter engine, the Land Cruiser 200 is equipped with a 4.7-liter gasoline engine. Its power is 288 hp. Such a car will accelerate to a maximum speed of 200 km/h, while 100 km consumes 19 liters of gasoline in the city and 11.7 liters on the highway.

Other cars: Hyundai Terracan 2.5, 2.9, 3.5 fuel consumption

    Real gas consumption

    • Yuri, Simferopol. Toyota Land Cruiser 4.7 AT 2010. Before purchasing the 200th, there were exclusively Japanese-made cars. Since I was satisfied with the quality of all previous cars, I decided to buy a Cruiser. The acceleration dynamics are quite good - almost like a sports car. Consumption is 20 liters in the city, 12 liters on the highway. The only negative is the quality of the body, since it was much better on the 100th model.
    • Sergey, Kaliningrad. The 200th Cruiser with a 4.7 liter engine is a very good and reliable car. I bought it new. I use it both in winter and summer. I drove it south a couple of times and never let me down. Consumes almost 16 liters of gasoline per hundred. We were disappointed by the interior crickets and the quality of the plastic—too cheap for a $100,000 car. Model 2008 with automatic transmission.
    • Andrey, Novokuznetsk. Toyota Land Cruiser 4.7 AT 2010. I've been driving this SUV for a long time. I use it very harshly. I go both to work and fishing. Never had any problems. I only serve at official locations. The 4.7 AT gasoline engine is fully sufficient - consumption is on average 16-17 liters. The quality of the body is excellent, not a single corroded spot. To date I have driven almost 80 thousand km.
    • Kirill, Kostroma. Toyota Land Cruiser 4.7 AT 2010. I've been driving the car for a relatively short time, but I already have first positive impressions. Very high after the Camry. On the highway it holds the road perfectly, the engine accelerates quite quickly. Of course, it eats no less than 21 liters in the city, 13 liters on the highway. But for such a car I think it’s quite normal consumption. The only negative is the navigation. I had to install an additional navigator.
    • Sergey, Tula. Great car, I don't understand some people's criticism. Good directional stability, the SUV copes with any type of road. Since I am unpretentious, the salon suits me quite well. The 4.7 AT engine consumes within 17 liters per hundred - the engine is very powerful. The only thing is that there are problems with parking, because in parking lots everyone tries to scratch their bumpers. Build 2009.

    Engine types and fuel consumption

Initially, the car only had a diesel engine, but after restyling, gasoline options appeared on the market. Both engines are installed on a six-speed gearbox (automatic or manual).

    The most popular options are:

    1. 4.5 diesel - has increased power and provides additional dynamics of the aircraft. Maximum power is recorded at 3200 rpm. There is a turbocharger with cooling. The fuel consumption of the Land Cruiser 200 diesel will be 10 liters per 100 km. Acceleration to speed of 100 km/h - 9 seconds. The maximum speed is 210 km/h.
    2. 4.6 gasoline is one of the most uneconomical options. Fuel consumption per 100 km for this Land Cruiser 200 in urban driving mode will be 18-20 liters. Maximum power is recorded at 5.5 thousand rpm.

To save money, it is better to choose diesel options.

    Diesel engine

The V8 diesel engine is a powerful turbo engine that lasts quite a long time. During operation, it turned out that the engine has a weak point - the water pump. Replacement is required at 50 thousand km.

High oil consumption is observed in models produced before 2009. Consumption of the Land Cruiser 200 on diesel is 10 liters per 100 km.

The engine requires special care and high-quality fuel. The automatic system indicates when the fuel pump is dirty and requires replacement. The element can simply be cleaned, then the sensor will perceive it as new.

The engine is considered reliable. Doesn't cause any problems and is durable.

Fuel consumption of a diesel engine

When examining the diesel fuel consumption of the Land Cruiser 200, it becomes noticeable that the official data provided by the manufacturer is slightly different from the information that drivers write. According to the company, fuel consumption in the city for diesel versions is 11.2 liters per 100 kilometers. But in reality, these data are considered to be underestimated - according to user comments, it is noticeable that in fact the figures are 2-3 liters higher.

Speaking about the highway consumption of the Land Cruiser 200 4.5 diesel, you might be surprised - after all, it is only 8.5 liters per 100 kilometers of the vehicle. Such a sharp decrease in the required amount of fuel is due to the fact that there are usually no traffic jams on the highway, and the car moves at almost the same speed along the entire section.

Driving on a mixed highway consumes 9.5-10 liters of diesel per 100 km, which is an average.

    Gas engine

The gasoline engine is a V-8, which is not very economical. Fuel consumption on the Land Cruiser is 11-19 liters per 100 km. In the city, under heavy traffic conditions, gasoline use reaches 20 liters. It is possible to reset it only on a free highway, but the minimum consumption will be 11 liters.

In general, the engine is reliable, has excellent starting, and does not consume oil. The service life is long, the engine does not require special care, except for high-quality fuel and good oil, which is changed in a timely manner.

    Real gas consumption

The actual consumption of TLC depends on many factors. The manufacturer states average data.

Luxury models have a slightly higher consumption, as they are heavier and are designed for 7 seats.

    1. Roman: “I bought a 200 series car from a dealership in 2012 with a 4.6 engine and an automatic transmission. Consumption was about 19 liters per 100 km. I refueled at a proven gas station with 92 gasoline. When I filled it with 95, the consumption decreased to 18 liters per 100 km. Overall I’m happy with the car.”
    2. Peter: “I bought the car second-hand in 2009. Engine 4.6, automatic transmission. Overall I'm pleased with the gas mileage. In the city, fuel consumption was 20-23 liters, on the highway - 15 liters. I believe that such gasoline consumption is justified by the power of the LC.”
    3. Andrey: “I bought a Land Cruiser 100.” Fuel consumption per 100 km, according to reviews, is no more than 18 liters, but with my driving style it increased to 25 liters per 100 km. I came to the conclusion that the TLC 100 is completely unsuitable for busy cities, its cross-country ability is good, but this does not justify the cost of gasoline.”

Reviews show that the Toyota Land Cruiser 200's fuel consumption with a gasoline engine is several times higher than that declared by the manufacturer. Reducing fuel use is only possible by changing your daily route or driving long distances on the highway. Increasing engine idle speed increases fuel consumption.

Fuel consumption of a gasoline engine

Interesting fact! The first gasoline-powered Land Cruiser cars appeared in 2009; they featured improved technical characteristics and a completely different engine. Not only the car’s engine has changed, but also its appearance, and the safety system for the driver and passengers has been improved. At the same time, the volume of the engine itself was reduced to 4.4 liters, which many car enthusiasts did not like.

If we talk about what affects the Land Cruiser 200’s gas mileage, then everything will depend on what kind of terrain the car is driving through. When driving around the city, only 12 liters per 100 kilometers will be spent, but if the route is on the highway, then the consumption decreases to 11.7 liters per 100 kilometers. If the trip is on a mixed type of road, then the cost of gasoline will increase - its consumption reaches 15 liters per 100 km. Such data is indicated in the manufacturer’s official sources, but the reality is radically different from what is written in the instructions.

When comparing the consumption of the Toyota Land Cruiser 200 on diesel and gasoline, it becomes clear that the official data differs too much from the actual figures. If in the situation with a diesel engine there are small discrepancies, then for a gasoline engine the real consumption is much more different from what is written. Every second owner indicates that this configuration consumes up to 18-20 liters of fuel.
