Do valves bend on Grant 8 valve engine 11186

Lada Granta 8 valve engine, characteristics, dynamics, fuel consumption

The Lada Granta 8 valve engine with a volume of 1.6 liters is currently the most popular among buyers of a budget sedan. The design of the motor is well known not only in the official service center, but also in any garage. Therefore, repair and maintenance of this motor does not cause difficulties and is relatively inexpensive. Today we’ll talk about this engine in more detail.

Gasoline power unit Lada Granta VAZ-11186 with a power of 87 hp. with a displacement of 1.6 liters, it replaced the VAZ-11183 injection engine developing 82 horsepower. The new lightweight piston group from Federal Mogul managed to increase the power and efficiency of the power unit. Of course, the engine is not distinguished by enchanting dynamics and low fuel consumption, but its relatively simple design and maintainability allow us to talk about a good option for our harsh operating conditions.

As for the technical part, it is based on a cast-iron cylinder block, an aluminum head, an aluminum cylinder head cover, and a steel engine sump. The timing drive of the Lada Granta is 8-cl. there is a belt. The eight-valve timing mechanism does not have hydraulic compensators; valve adjustment occurs rarely, but the process is quite painstaking. It is necessary to select “nickels” of different thicknesses and place them between the camshaft cams and the bottoms of the pusher cups. The first time such a procedure is carried out is at the so-called “0” zero maintenance, after 3000 km.

The age-old question: Do the valves on the Grant VAZ-11186 engine bend when the timing belt breaks? The answer is clear: when the valve belt breaks, it bends! The engine is paired with a 5-speed manual transmission; no other options are provided.

Further technical characteristics of the base Lada Granta engine 8 valves 87 hp.

  • 2 - coolant pump toothed pulley
  • 3 - tension roller
  • 4 - rear protective cover

  • 6 - timing belt
  • A - boss on the rear protective cover
  • B - mark on the camshaft pulley

  • D - mark on the crankshaft pulley.

Another feature of the engine is the location of the water pump (pump), which is rotated by the same timing belt. That is, in case of coolant leaks or characteristic noise/whistle/hum in the timing drive area, checking the belt is mandatory. If the pump bearing crumbles and the belt comes off, then in addition to replacing the water pump housing and belt, you will also have to go through the cylinder head, removing bent valves from there.

AvtoVAZ uses a very reliable Gates belt as the original belt. Often the service life of the Gates belt is much higher than the service life of the pump and tension pulley of the Lada Granta 8-valve engine.

Lada granta - which engine is better?

Today I will talk about the engines that are installed on the Lada Granta. Today, only four engines are installed on this car. I will try to briefly talk about the characteristics of each engine, but I will not consider the Granta Sport engine, it is too specific and quite rare.

I’ll start with the most basic one, which is installed on the “Standard” package, this is engine 21186. In fact, this is the same engine that was previously installed on VAZ 21114 cars. The only thing that has changed is that the block has become 2.3 mm higher and the shape of the crankshaft has changed shaft The seats remained the same, that is, 7.12, but the shafts themselves were changed.

And in order not to change the compression ratio, the cylinder head was changed. In terms of other characteristics, this is still the same engine from the 14th model. In principle, it has established itself as a reliable unit produced by the Volzhsky plant. One of the disadvantages is the adjustment of the valves (due to the lack of hydraulic compensators), as in any other eight-valve engine from VAZ.

Very hard work of the connecting rod and piston group, which produces strong vibration on the body and a characteristic diesel sound. The advantage is the compression ratio of 9.6, which theoretically allows the use of AI-92 gasoline without detonation explosions. Great maintainability - in any garage you can replace almost all units. Well, actually – cheap service.

The next engine is 21116, which was installed on the “Norma” package. The main change is a lighter piston; final honing of the cylinder walls has been applied, which extends the life of the engine and makes it easier to pick up. By changing the piston group, the engine gained 8 N/m. The cylinder head gasket has been changed; now it is metal, two-layer, more durable, similar to that of the Priora.

The compression ratio has been increased to 10.5, which no longer allows the use of AI-92 gasoline. Anyone who uses AI-92, know that this cannot be done (more on that later). The engine also received an automatic timing belt tensioner and a toothed belt manufactured with a service life of up to 200 thousand km. and an imported pump with a service life of up to 70 thousand km.

The advantages of this unit: low noise, decreased fuel consumption due to lighter pistons, increased power and torque. One of the disadvantages is that if the timing belt breaks, the valve bends. There are no hydraulic compensators, which means adjusting the valves.

The next engine is 21127, which is created on the basis of the 16-valve VAZ-21126 engine, but has significant differences, namely: power increased to 106 l/s, torque to 148 N/m, instead of the mass air flow sensor, DBP and DTV were installed, which eliminated the problem floating speed at idle.

This engine also uses lightweight pistons, a reinforced cylinder block gasket and the compression ratio is increased to 11 units, which means the use of AI-98 gasoline. In addition, this unit is equipped with a hydraulic compensator system, which reduces vibration and eliminates the need for valve adjustment.

This engine combines all the advantages of an 8-valve engine (traction from the bottom) and a 16-valve engine (it picks up well at the top). This is one of the most successful solutions of the Volzhsky plant, a more or less modern engine.

Now why can’t AI-92 be poured into engines 21116, 21126 and 21127. For these units, the compression ratio is from 10.5 to 11 units, i.e. at this compression ratio, AI-92 begins to detonate. Detonation is a strong destructive factor that can be compared to a hammer hitting a piston. This constantly gives rise to topics on various auto forums: “The engine is dead,” “Capital again,” etc.

All of the above engines have a knock sensor, which allows you to automatically adjust the ignition timing. But as a negative result: you lose engine power, its efficiency, and reduce its service life. Those. imaginary savings on gasoline can lead to disastrous consequences...

That's all. Let's like and subscribe! )))

Lada Granta VAZ 219010. Features and technical characteristics of the Lada Granta car

Technical characteristics of Lada Granta: review

124 and 126 engines on which valve bending.
124 does the engine bend the valves? There is a large selection of possible configurations of the VAZ Grant, in which you can easily find the optimal one for yourself. Budget price, high ground clearance of the Lada Granta, which allows you to easily overcome off-road conditions, availability of maintenance, a spacious interior, and a huge trunk - these are the main advantages of the car.

The platform for the low-cost front-wheel drive car VAZ Granta was shared by the Lada Kalina. Today the Grant family is represented by two models.

  1. Four-door sedan.
  2. Five-door liftback in three trim levels:

How is the replacement made?

Which VAZ engines bend valves. 3, when the timing belt breaks, does the engine bend the valves or not?

So, you have discovered a defect or the scheduled repair is due. Replacement is carried out step by step only with a cooled motor:

  1. Disconnect the battery of your Lada Grant.
  2. Remove the crankshaft position sensor. Place the sensor in a clean place, such as a shelf, that is free of steel filings or oil.
  3. Place the piston of the first cylinder at top dead center.
  4. Rotate the crankshaft until the mark on the pulley aligns with the protrusion on the drive cover.
  5. Remove the plug from the inspection window (located on the clutch housing) and check the position of the shaft. If you did everything correctly, a mark will appear in the window and will be located opposite the slot. Lock the flywheel using a screwdriver (it must be placed between its teeth).
  6. Unscrew the generator drive pulley, remove it from the axle and remove the washer.
  7. Remove the timing cover.
  8. Loosen the tension roller (it should turn).
  9. Remove the belt from all pulleys and pull out.
  10. If you need, in addition to installing the timing belt, to remove the tension roller and replace it with a new one, then unscrew the fastening bolt and then remove the roller right along with it.
  11. Before installing a new roller, check whether a replacement is really needed. To do this, grab the metal middle of this mechanism and turn the plastic part. With a working component, it moves smoothly, without jamming.
  12. Inspect the pump and begin reassembling the gas distribution mechanism. Install the roller into the top hole on the cylinder block, but do not fully tighten the bolt securing this part of the drive.
  13. Place the belt so that it runs correctly over all pulleys and rollers. In order for the belt to fit correctly, after laying it on the crankshaft pulley (it must first be installed in its place), tighten both parts of the part. Try to distribute the load evenly.
  14. The far part of the timing belt should lie on the pump pulley and go behind the tension roller (at this stage, check the diagram), and the near one should carefully lie on the toothed part of the camshaft.
  15. Turn the camshaft pulley slightly (in the direction of the smaller stroke) so that the belt teeth align with the notches on it. Use a special wrench to turn the tension roller counterclockwise.

After the replacement has been made, check the timing belt tension. Excessive voltage in it on the Lada Granta is fraught with failure of the cooling system pump. Also, if there is excessive tension, the belt can fail very quickly.

A loose belt can lead to poor valve timing. Turn the crankshaft to the right so that the timing marks align. After this, reassemble the generator pulley. Remember that when the belt is removed on a Lada Grant model, turning the shafts is strictly prohibited. The setting is done only when the replacement has already been carried out.

The most common problems of internal combustion engines 11186

Malfunctions of the VAZ 11186 begin after 60,000 kilometers, if you do not visit the service center at 40 thousand. Knocks may appear in the VAZ engine. They indicate unadjusted valve clearances. If everything is fine with them, then pay attention to the connecting rod and main bearings of the crankshaft. They may need to be replaced.

If the speed in the VAZ engine fluctuates. The problem may lie in a malfunction of the throttle valve. It is necessary to check the functionality of the damper sensors. If they are not working properly, replace them with new ones.

If the thermostat breaks down, the VAZ 11186 engine begins to warm up slowly. When starting, it stalls - problems with the mass air flow sensor. If the mass air flow sensor is not repaired in time, the car may stall while driving somewhere on the highway.

There may be problems with the ignition unit or the standard electronic unit. The latter is unreliable. Therefore, if glitches appear in the control unit, it is better to replace it immediately.

Among the critical breakdowns, experienced mechanics identify problems with the pump and tension roller. If the roller jams, the teeth of the timing belt are cut off. The valve bends in almost every such case. The engine is immediately sent for overhaul. Therefore, it is better to avoid roller wedge and problems with the pump.

Engine 21116 87 hp valve bends

VAZ 2108 we adjust the valves with our own hands

21116 engine bends valve

This engine is installed on the Lada Granta in the “Norma” configuration. And it also bends the valves, unfortunately.

Engine 21116 (87 hp) is one of the most common in Lada Granta cars.

In order to increase power, AvtoVAZ designers had to install a lightweight piston group in the 114 engine. This has led to the fact that the space for the recesses in the pistons is now completely absent, which means that the piston will 100% bend. Since the piston has become thinner, with a high degree of probability the piston, after “meeting the valves,” will also become unusable and fall apart.

The only difference between 21116 and 11186 is that the first is installed with an imported connecting rod and piston group, and the second with a domestic one.

Malfunctions, causes, elimination

The first drawback of Lada Granta engines, as already mentioned, is the bending of the valves when the belt breaks. To avoid this malfunction, it is necessary to change it in time and visit service centers for maintenance. Then the valves will not bend, since the updated belt will last for another 100 thousand kilometers.

Young people are trying to tune the power units of cars produced by the Lada Granta plant. This includes increasing engine power. To do this, they do chip tuning, that is, they program the electronic brains of the engine, or install a turbocharger. All this leads to the rapid depletion of the engine’s vital reserves and affects its operation. A tuned engine loses 50 thousand kilometers, which it would have covered if it had been left aspirated. And that's the minimum.

Other problems are hidden in the malfunction of hydraulic valve lifters. This is also a common malfunction that car owners have to deal with. This can only be solved by installing new hydraulic pushers.

Forgetting to regularly replace filters leads to system contamination. Crumbs from used engine parts appear and travel through the oil system. It acts as an abrasive on the pistons and wears them out. The solution to this problem is to regularly replace the filter elements, especially for oil and fuel filters.

The knocking sound of the crankshaft main bearings is a concern for car owners. In this case, you need to make sure that the oil pressure in the engine is normal. Tighten the flywheel mounting bolts.

If everything is fine with the bolts and oil, then you may have to replace the crankshaft bearings or grind the journals, or reduce the clearance in the thrust bearing. As a last resort, replace the crankshaft.

Lada Granta 8 valve with air conditioning works?

Dear visitors of the “Cars” website! We will be very grateful for your comments on the video clip “Does the Lada Granta 8 valve with air conditioning work?” registration is not required for this. We also ask you to let us know if you have any problems playing the video.

Only last summer, when the car was new, the revolutions did not jump at any blowing power, at least 1 or 3... we need to find the reason, because along with the revolutions, the generator voltage jumps if the on-board engine is not lying... and over time this will not have a very good effect on all the electronics...

My compressorlada granta 14 years old still hums or howls.

I had this happen. I changed the candles to iligated ones, with a thin triangular tip. Stopped troit.

How much horsepower does the engine have? 106?

And in the heat, how does the air conditioner cool the interior? Have you ever had a chance to drive a vase with the air conditioner yet?

I had the same thing. I whistled the throttle and everything was gone.

I had the same thing. I cleaned the throttle body and everything went away.

This happened to me too, but over time, now the revs generally drop to 500, then they recover, and now it sometimes even stalls. I haven’t solved the problem yet, I don’t know when to go to a diagnostician. And in general the norm is when, incl. The air conditioner triggers the compressor relay and the speed should be 1000, then when the compressor is turned off, it drops to 850, but not as often as yours.

On the 8th valve I turn on the air conditioner. The air conditioner fan on the radiator starts spinning immediately. Is that how it should be?

I also have a Granta with Conder, I just want to ask, it takes a long time for everyone to get cold after about 10-15 minutes of driving. and in foreign cars it’s immediately cold

thank you, I didn’t notice but it’s useful.

I don’t see a problem, the master explained correctly about the speed. Just look at how the revs change on a Land Cruiser when it has the Conder on at idle, you'll be stunned.

one whistles at the damper the other spark plugs changes this is normal when the air conditioner is running it takes power when you turn it on full- the compressor needs more voltage the principle of operation of the air conditioner is on-off this is normal almost 9 minutes nothing to worry about

It was so. I cleaned the throttle at the service center and the revs calmed down.

It’s been the same for me since I bought the car, and since I’ve only driven foreign cars before, it generally scared me at first.

Duster restyling, when the heated windows are turned on, they float from 500 to 1000. The dealer changed everything under the hood, they can’t find it, I’m trying to return it to them. This is not the norm by any means

I looked at similar ones, several cars are standing still, if the norm were all floating

Where is the engine identification number on the Grant?

When it becomes necessary to check the license plate of a power unit, the driver faces a difficult task. To understand where the engine number is on a Grant, you need to at least have an idea of the appearance of automotive mechanisms.

Under the hood of the Lada Granta there is not only an engine, but also other important units and devices. The engine itself is located in the middle of the engine compartment, but you can see the designation plate only after performing several actions:

  1. Open the hood of the Lada Granta, first prepare a flashlight, rags and a set of screwdrivers.
  2. Remove the air filter.
  3. After removing it, access to the end of the cylinder block will open. It is engraved with numbers. As a rule, this surface is covered with dirt, machine oil and other contaminants. You need to clean the surface with a cloth and soapy water.
  4. If exposed to moisture, the applied markings could become rusty and difficult to read. To remove rust, use a special product such as WD-40.
  5. After all cleaning procedures, the number should become visible. If it is inconvenient to read, you can use a mirror to reflect it at a certain angle.

Engine number on 16 valve

The Lada Granta is available with two types of engines: 8 and 16 valves. The design of the units does not have any major differences. A larger number of valves ensures engine acceleration and better technical characteristics.

On the more powerful Lada Granta, the engine number is also located on the end of the cylinder block on the right side, if you stand in front of the hood. The location of the engine itself in the engine compartment is no different for both versions.

Engine number on 8 mi valve

The very first Grants, produced since 2011, were equipped with 8 valve engines. It is this fact that may explain that the engine designation on early production cars may be in a more deplorable state.

Over 8-9 years of operation, the place on the cylinder block where the marking is applied is often subject to rust and covered with a layer of dirt. To make the engine symbol visible and legible, effort must be made to clean the surface.

Modifications of 8 and 16 valve Lada Granta engines

A car of this family is equipped with one of five types of power units, namely:

  • 8th grade: VAZ-11183-50, VAZ-11186;
  • 16th grade: VAZ-21126, VAZ-21127, VAZ 21126-77.

The bend of the valve stem is typical for all of the above modifications of power units, with the exception of the VAZ-11183-50. The reason lies in the absence of a defect in the design of the gas distribution mechanism (GRM).

If the drive belt suddenly breaks, the camshaft continues to rotate, while the crankshaft immediately stops due to the lack of rotational movement.

When the crankshaft stops, the cylinder pistons hit the valve stems (seats). Consequences: deformation of the structure, breakage of the metal base.

Wait, there are so many manufacturers here. So which timing belt is better?

Yes, there are many companies that produce the necessary materials for replacing the timing belt. They are usually divided into “original” and “analogues” - in the first case, the supplier is the car manufacturer, and in the second - third-party companies that specialize in the production of spare parts.

If you dig a little deeper, you will find out that the original belts, rollers or other parts are made by the same third-party manufacturers, only the packaging and markings are different. These are the so-called OEM suppliers - reliable companies with a good reputation that have entered into an agreement with the car manufacturer.

Among the manufacturers of timing belts and rollers, the following companies have proven themselves well: Gates, Contitech, Dayco, Bosch, INA. There are other, cheaper options that expand the price/quality range. But, as we have already found out, the timing belt is not a part you should skimp on.

About engines

Lada Granta engines with 8 valves in the cylinder head are indexed 11183 and 11186. The first of them began to be produced in 2004, the second later, namely in 2011. The power of the “83” unit is 82 horses, with 87 hp for the “86” modification. Motor 11186 is an improved engine of the “83” model. It uses a lightweight connecting rod and piston group. It was possible to achieve a reduction in the mass of the piston group by almost 30%. The cylinder head is subjected to specific heat treatment, which increases its strength and wear resistance.

The cooling system of the power unit also received some changes. The skirts of lightweight pistons are coated with graphite lubricant, this avoids the appearance of scuffing on the cylinders of a cold engine. The compression ratio of the “86” engine became 10.5 versus 9.6 for the “83” modification. The cylinder head gasket of the new engine is now thinner, it is 0.43 mm versus 1.2 on the old model. The diameter of the intake valves was increased, which improved the filling of the cylinders with the air-fuel mixture.

Does the valve bend?

Unfortunately, this problem exists for the Lada Grant. It appeared from the moment the production of the first cars with front-wheel drive, the VAZ 2108, began. Subsequently, the working volume of the power unit of this model was increased, it became equal to 1.5 liters. The engine index became 21083, in which the pistons have a recess in the head. This made it possible to prevent the pistons from meeting the valves if the timing belt in the timing drive breaks or is installed incorrectly. This particular power unit was taken as the basis for the engine for the Granta, so there were no valve bends.

Upgrading this engine to model 11186 involves installing lightweight parts of the connecting rod and piston group. The pistons have become shorter in height, which does not allow making recesses in the head to prevent them from meeting the valve. Therefore, a toothed belt break is always accompanied by damage to the valves on an 8-valve Grant, sometimes to connecting rods and pistons. This problem accompanies all subsequent modifications of engines for the Lada Grant.

Main engines

As the main engines, AvtoVAZ offers customers a choice of the power units already mentioned just above. Let's talk about each of them separately.

VAZ-11186 (VAZ 21116)

VAZ 21116 is another representative of eight-valve engines with 87 hp. under the hood. It is a modified and improved VAZ-21114 engine, which is distinguished by a lower noise level and noticeable fuel economy. They are equipped with Grant's Norma vehicles.

If we compare the VAZ 21116 with the VAZ-21114, we should note a noticeably increased level of environmental friendliness, and the power has also increased significantly. The disadvantages of the engine include a more modest resource than, for example, that of the VAZ-11183. Its pistons are much lighter than those of its predecessor, but this circumstance led to the appearance of two more disadvantages.

So, in lighter pistons there is simply no room left for the recesses, therefore, if the belt breaks, the valves will definitely bend. Another disadvantage of such pistons is related to their fragility. For this reason, pistons can break when colliding with valves, and in four cases out of five such contact will require replacement.

Naturally, potential buyers will also be interested in the dynamic data of this engine. The presence of lighter pistons, which were already mentioned earlier, allowed the engine to increase not only in terms of power, but also in additional efficiency. Cars with such an engine reach speeds of up to 167 km/h, and acceleration from 0 to 100 meters will take them 12.4 seconds.

VAZ 11183 (VAZ 21114)

Lada Kalina cars began to be equipped with VAZ 11183 (or VAZ 21114) power units in 2004, and then it was inherited by the Grant “standard”. This is a rather simple and primitive four-cylinder engine with 8 valves, producing 82 hp. and volume 1.6 l.

It cannot boast of solid power characteristics, but it does not cause any special problems when driving, and it is also very easy to maintain. It is distinguished by its environmental friendliness and reliability, while it also has good elasticity characteristics. In addition, this motor is known as one of the most torquey, especially at the bottom.

An important additional plus is a reliable timing system that prevents collisions between pistons and valves when the timing belt breaks.

But during operation of the motor, some disadvantages may be noted, in particular:

VAZ-21904

VAZ-21904 is a gasoline-powered sixteen-valve turbo engine with a displacement of 1.4 and a power of 163 hp. In addition, it is equipped with a lithium-ion battery and an electric motor. The basis for it was the VAZ-11194 engine; it was installed on Lada Kalina cars in the first generation. As for the VAZ-21904 itself, it is installed on Grant hybrids - VAZ-21904 sedans. The Volzhsky Automobile Plant tested four such vehicles equipped with three different hybrid engine options.

Fifth gear was replaced by the shaft of a robotic gearbox; it rotates thanks to a small electric motor with a power of 11 kW. This option turned out to be simpler and cheaper than using the standard scheme with the electric motor located between the gearbox and the internal combustion engine. Thus, there are four gears left, but this aspect will not create any problems for the car owner - the maximum speed (160 km/h) is achieved by the car in fourth gear.

Production of the updated Lada Granta family started in Togliatti in August 2021. With the modernization, Granta received a new front design - with an X-shaped composition in the style of Lada Vesta. The hood, front fenders, headlights, radiator grille, and front bumper have been changed. Among the functional innovations of the exterior are the windshield washer nozzles that have been moved from the hood to the frill. With modernization, the entire Kalina family will be included in the Grants line, and the name “Kalina” itself will go down in history. All Grants received interiors from Kalina. There are minor changes such as a new instrument cluster or decorative inserts in the front panel. Granta of all modifications received a new handle for the parking brake lever, a different cladding for the lower part of the center console and modified seat upholstery. For Granta, this is definitely a benefit, because its front panel was overly simplified and cheapened.

In the cabin there is a new design instrument cluster with radial digitization and a black and white on-board computer display (it was green and black). The model received wider headrests, and the rear sofa now has pronounced lateral support. The driver's seat in expensive trim levels will now be equipped with a height adjustment function (adjustment range - 40 mm). For the first time, the basic equipment of the Lada Granta included the ERA-GLONASS SOS system (on Grants of the outgoing model it was offered as an additional option).

Engines and gearboxes have not changed. Three variants of the 1.6 liter petrol engine and three transmission options are available. The basic eight-valve engine (87 hp) is combined with a 5-speed manual transmission. 16-valve engine with 98 hp. is combined with a 4-band Japanese “automatic” Jatco, and for the engine the output is 106 hp. “mechanics” or domestic “robot” are available. For cars with “mechanics” and “robots,” the gear ratio of the main pair has been increased from 3.7:1 to 3.9:1. Also, the “robot” has been modernized by analogy with Vesta: a crawling mode has appeared (the car starts moving when the brake pedal is released), the noise level has been reduced and a more wear-resistant clutch has been installed. In addition, a “Sport” mode has been added, which is activated by a button and reduces gear shifting time.

Restyling brought Grant an important symbolic detail - the updated Lada emblem (with an extended sail). Let us remind you that the modernized Lada logo debuted back in 2014, but until now it has only been used on three models of the brand - Vesta, XRAY and 4x4.

Lada Granta fuel consumption rate per 100 km 16-valve

Official information

In addition to the 8-valve engine, the Lada Granta is also equipped with a 16-valve engine of the same volume of 1.6 liters. The model range is completed with 3 types of power plants: 98, 106 and 120 (sport version) horsepower. They are equipped with lightweight pistons, due to which the power was increased. This also helped reduce noise and vibration levels. The 16-valve engine can accelerate to a top speed of 183 km/h, with acceleration to the first hundred in 10.9 seconds. Fuel consumption is 8.6 liters per 100 km in the city and around 5.6 liters on the highway.

Real fuel consumption

  • Sergey, Baltiysk. Lada Granta 1.6 (98 hp) AT 2014. I bought it recently and really liked it. Since I have repeatedly encountered and driven cars produced by VAZ, I was very surprised by the quality of this car. In addition, consumption is not very high, up to 10.5 liters per 100 km in the city and 6.5 on the highway. For family trips, Grant is just right.
  • Nikolay, Samara. I bought myself a grant sport version of 120 hp. with a manual transmission and I will say that in general the car is normal, it just requires maintenance. There is a slight rattle in the interior, but for the price we can say that everything is in order. Consumes little fuel. My consumption is about 8.8 liters per hundred square meters in the city and up to 5.3 liters outside the city.
  • Dmitry, Bryansk. Lada Granta 1.6 (90 hp). Very beautiful design for a domestically produced car at this price. The controls are comfortable and reliable, and on the roads, if you do not exceed the speed of 150 km/h, it behaves confidently. In terms of consumption, I can also say that it is surprising - on average, 7.5 liters of gasoline are consumed per 100 km.
  • Andrey, Kursk. After I bought a new Lada 2014 106 hp. The only thing that disappointed the AT was the poor sound insulation, but this was quickly corrected by installing a custom one. After this grant, I was not particularly disappointed. It’s also pleasant that the car is economical, since it consumes 5.5–6 liters per 100 km on the highway, and 8–8.5 liters in the city.
  • Sergey, Peter. Lada Granta 1.6 (90 hp). I bought the car in 2012. At first I liked it, but later all the good impressions dissipated - the sound insulation really lets me down. You can hear rattling and creaking of parts in the cabin. Fuel consumption is 9 liters per 100 km in the city and 5.5 on the highway. If possible, I will exchange it for something else.
  • Pavel, Moscow. After being the owner of a Toyota, Ford, and Merc, I decided to try something from a domestic manufacturer. In general, many were pleased with the 2015 Granta with automatic transmission. Especially the steering and suspension, and the engine is dynamic. Gasoline consumption is quite acceptable for me: during a trip around the city I spend about 9 liters, outside of it on the highway - 5 liters.
  • Alexey, Perm. Lada Granta 1.6 (106 hp) 2014 MT. Buying a car is completely justified. I haven’t noticed any extraneous noise in the cabin yet; the controls are easy and reliable. Plus, considering that I have two children, the trunk is spacious. Fuel is consumed as it is written in the passport - on average approximately 7–7.5 liters per 100 km.
  • Victor, Vladikavkaz. I took a car with a 90 hp engine. three years ago. So far I can say that it is worth the money. I didn’t particularly notice any shortcomings as such, except for noise. The trunk is normal, the engine is quite torquey, and the fuel consumption is normal. On the highway it turns out to be 5.3–5.5l, in the city 8l.
  • Albert, Saratov. Lada Granta 1.6 (90 hp). When choosing a car, I took into account the low price and that it would be inexpensive to maintain. I was quite pleased with this choice. The main advantages are a large trunk and a good chassis system. Consumption is also normal, 8.5 liters in the city, 5.5 on the highway.
  • Vladimir, Kharkov. Before the 2014 Grant, I owned the fifth model. And, despite the fact that it is significantly newer, the impressions are not the best, even if after the top five. Very noisy, poor gear shifting. In the city it eats about 11.8 liters, outside the city 7.7 liters. In general, I regret that I switched to it.

In 2015, a restyled version of the LADA Granta appeared on the market. This modification came with minor changes to the interior and body. Mainly on the outside, changes have been made to the rear-view mirrors. In the cabin, after much criticism, sound insulation and the cut of the seat upholstery were improved. Improved door seals were also installed. In terms of technical characteristics, the manufacturer installed a different brake booster. As for the engine, the same 1.6-liter unit remains with 82, 87, 98 and 106 horsepower.

Why do you need an engine number?

According to the rules for the development and production of vehicles, the engine must have its own identification number. The engine number on the Lada Granta, as on other cars, is necessary to obtain the following information:

  • engine model and its main characteristics;
  • manufacturer;
  • checking and comparing the data specified in the passport (performed when registering a vehicle, replacing a passport, installing additional equipment, replacing an engine);
  • checking the car for the possibility of being stolen (documents may be invalid).

In modern cars, not all units have an identification number. This is due to the fact that quite often the engine is changed to a newer one or with different power ratings. To facilitate the process of replacing the motor from the paperwork side, in many countries the engine markings are not checked and are not indicated in the documents.

How long does it take to replace it?

The factory operating instructions for the vehicle recommend replacing the timing belt after a mileage of 75 thousand km. This standard is not always followed by owners, and there are good reasons for this. How long the drive lasts before replacement depends on many factors. This is the quality of the parts used, the operating conditions of the vehicle, and the technical condition of the engine. During each maintenance, the tension and condition of the timing drive should be checked. If cracks, peeling, or other damage appears, the belt should be replaced.

With a high mileage of the car, natural wear of the crankshaft and camshaft pulleys occurs, this significantly reduces the service life of the entire timing drive. The drive is also afraid of engine oil getting into the belt operating area. It softens its structure, the teeth are easily cut off. If the car has been sitting idle for a long time, it is also better to replace the drive due to its aging. Most owners and experts recommend changing the belt after a mileage of 50 thousand km.

Signs of the need to adjust the valves of the VAZ 2190

After the engine warms up as it operates, its parts naturally expand due to the release of heat. Thus, car manufacturers set certain timing clearances when cold. These clearances take into account changes in valve dimensions during heating. If the valves have the wrong clearance, then this is fraught with consequences. The efficiency of the power unit immediately decreases and the service life of some engine parts, including the valves themselves, decreases. For example, if the gap sizes are set small, the valve itself and its seat will burn. When large gaps are installed, the valves do not open completely. In the second case, the overall engine power decreases noticeably and a characteristic metallic knock appears. The manufacturer of the VAZ 2190 recommends monitoring and adjusting the valve mechanism every 20-30 thousand mileage.

Malfunctions

The VAZ-11186 engine is characterized by malfunctions that are inherent in almost all engines developed and manufactured at AvtoVAZ OJSC.

FAULTCAUSEREMEDY METHODS
The motor does not warm up to the required temperature (95 degrees Celsius).The thermostat has failed.Replace thermostat.
Extraneous noises and knocking.1. Wear of the crankshaft main bearings.Replace worn components and parts. It is recommended to carry out repairs at specialized service stations.
2. Wear of connecting rod bearings.
3. Pistons knock.
Unstable operation of the power unit (“speeds float”, “troits”, etc.)1. The throttle position sensor is faulty.Ÿ Replace the faulty sensor. Ÿ
2. The valve has burned out.Measure compression in cylinders. If it is below normal, then the gas distribution mechanism is faulty. If compression is normal, the ignition module is faulty.
3. The gasket has broken.
4. The ignition module has failed.

Engine malfunctions and repairs 11194

Lada Kalina engine 1.4 16 valves 11194 is a simplified version of the Priora engine and an evolution of the well-known modified, redesigned engine 21083. It differs from the Priora engine in volume, power indicators and torque for the worse. The engine itself is an injector inline 4 cylinder with overhead camshafts, the timing belt has a belt drive. The service life of the 11194 engine, according to the manufacturer's data, has increased, relative to previous AvtoVAZ developments, by 50 thousand and is now 200 thousand km, in practice it is about that. On the technical side, the 194 engine differs from the 126 (Priora) by smaller diameter pistons (it was 82 mm became 76.5 mm), due to this the volume decreased from 1.6 liters. up to 1.4 l. and a slightly smaller combustion chamber, due to these transformations the low-end torque disappeared, the engine only starts at 2000 rpm and for normal movement it needs to be constantly turned, so the conceived idea of an economical engine did not work. In addition, the VAZ 11194 engine bends the valves, the rollers fall apart, the pump gets stuck, the timing belt falls off, and we end up with expensive repairs. In order to avoid problems, every 60 thousand km it is necessary to change the timing belt with a roller and the pump. In addition, this motor can knock and make various sounds, get warm or not warm, the speed can fluctuate, stall, etc. What is the reason and what to do in these cases, see HERE in the “Faults and Repairs” section. At the moment, engine 11194 has been discontinued and is available only for aftermarket use; it is not available on new cars.

City tuning Kalina engine 1.4

The 11194 viburnum engine is not the best choice for tuning; boring the 11194 to 79 mm or 82 mm is fraught with the appearance of shells, and modifying a low-volume engine is ineffective. Installing sports top camshafts with a receiver means squandering the already non-existent low end. The most rational thing to do would be to start tuning by replacing the block with a Priorovsky one and build according to already proven options. But what to do if you want to slightly improve performance without major changes... let's install a 4-2-1 spider straight-through exhaust on our viburnum with 51 pipes or a 4-1 spider ( replacement of the catalyst), simple Nuzhdin 8.7 camshafts (a wider shaft will not work well on a sluggish engine), a 54 or 56 mm throttle body, a receiver and all this is properly configured, this set will provide us with up to 110 hp. at the top, at the bottom the engine will be worse than standard, which is not very convenient in the city. This problem is solved by selecting the main pair and choosing a suitable range of gearboxes. To get even greater output and at the same time tighten up the bottom end, you need to bore the cylinder head channels, install larger valves, etc., but such procedures are a waste of time on an initially non-running engine. In general, despite 16 valves, engine 11194 is unsuitable for tuning.

Compressor for Kalina 1.4 16 valves

Unlike other VAZ engines, the Kalinovsky 194 engine has a high compression ratio and it will not be possible to painlessly install a St. Petersburg compressor on a standard engine. It is necessary to reduce the compression ratio by installing a tuning piston; with such an investment, the return will not live up to expectations.

Engine Kalina turbo 1.4

By analogy with the compressor, we change the piston to a forged one with a reduction in the coolant to 9, Nuzhdin shafts 8.7 or 8.85, install a small turbine like a Garrett 17, a turbo manifold, a Walbro pump for 450 liters/hour, BOSCH 431 injectors with a capacity of 360cc, switch to DBP with DTV, blow-off, 51-pipe exhaust, intercooler and consumables. Approximately 150+ hp we will get it, but the same thing on the prior block will give a greater increase. It's up to you to do it or not.

The best tuning for this car is replacing the block with 21126!

ENGINE RATING: 3+

The risk is especially great if...

If you don’t look after the car, it will force you to take a closer look at it with large and costly repairs. At AvtoVAZ they advise changing the timing belt more often, monitoring the condition of the rollers, tensioners, etc., i.e. Carry out periodic maintenance. Although the factory gives a 120,000 km guarantee on the belt, testing this is a big risk. It is better to monitor it more often and change it in advance, before you have to spend money on a major engine overhaul.

In the fall of 2015, the Lad family of passenger cars was replenished with a top model - the Vesta car, produced in a sedan body. When asking the question “do the valves bend on the Lada Vesta,” you need to clearly imagine what kind of engine we are talking about: a 1.6-liter Russian or Nissan, or maybe the latest VAZ development with the name “21179”.

Here we consider options related to cars currently being produced or those that will begin to be produced in the near future. An 8-valve engine was also developed for Vesta - it definitely does not bend the valves and will definitely not be installed on top-end sedans in 2016.

ICE VAZ-21129, 106 “hp” (valve bending)

Under the hood of the 106-horsepower Lada Vesta

A little history. Motor 21129 is a modified version of another engine, namely 21127. The last of them, when the timing belt broke, successfully bent its valves, although grooves were made on the pistons (Fig. 1). The point is that the depth of the grooves was not sufficient: if certain conditions were met, the valve “met” the piston with all the ensuing consequences.

With the transition to a new generation of internal combustion engines, that is, 21129, the design of the pistons was modified. But the external shape has not changed much, and although the recesses remain, their depth is still insufficient.

In theory, the problem with valve bending is typical for all VAZ engines equipped with 4 valves per cylinder. Each new 16-valve engine “inherits” it. The exception is one rarity - the VAZ-2112 internal combustion engine, the volume of which is 1.6 liters.

There, the recesses are made conscientiously (Fig. 2).

122-horsepower engine “21179” (valve bending)

In terms of its design, the internal combustion engine of the VAZ-21179 is not very different from its predecessors. The working volume was increased to 1774 ml, which was achieved by changing the piston stroke length: it was 75.6 mm, it became 84.0 mm.

Elements of the connecting rod and piston group

The piston itself is now better fitted to the cylinder than in engines 21127 and 21129. The distance from the piston pin to the piston bottom has increased by 1.3 mm - to 26.7 mm.

But deeper grooves in the bottom never appeared. The timing mechanism still drives the belt, and if it breaks, the possibility of bending the valves has not been canceled.

The timing drive on 21179 engines is equipped with not one, but two tension rollers. What was done to make the design less susceptible to timing belt stretching.

It says here: the number of tension rollers is two

One of the automatic tensioners may jam, but then its function will be taken over by the second automatic roller.

Pistons that do not bend valves

Piston kits for some “old” 16-valve engines are produced by third-party companies. These parts are equipped with deep recesses. The point is that the piston does not reach the plates and cannot bend the valves.

Tuning piston for internal combustion engines 21126-21127

ShPG elements of different engines (21127, 21129, 21179) are compatible. But there is no need to install pistons from “old engines” into the Vesta engine:

  • In ICE 21129, after such “tuning”, friction losses will increase;
  • If pistons from the 26th or 27th engine are installed in the ICE 21179, the working volume will immediately change.

The “29th”, as well as the “79th” Lada Vesta engine bends valves only with “VAZ” pistons. But after installing a “tuning” part, do not expect an increase in power. Also, by using non-standard elements, you can greatly reduce the resource (lose the warranty, get unforeseen consequences).

Nissan HR16DE engine (does not bend, there is a chain)

This engine is planned for installation on bodies: , and coupe! Its name is HR16DE, and its displacement is 1.6 liters. Let's look at what the piston crown looks like.

HR16DE engine disassembled

There are no “deep recesses” here.

Now let's pay attention to how the timing drive mechanism works

Nothing but gears and chains

There is no toothed belt here - it is replaced by a chain. It is difficult to imagine the following two situations:

  • The chain could have jumped over the teeth of one or more gears;
  • One of the elements was damaged so badly that the presence of damage led to rupture.

Do the valves of a Lada Vesta with a Nissan internal combustion engine bend? The answer “no” would be wrong - a circuit break is not excluded. But in reality it will be almost impossible to face such a situation. Let's look at why.

Why does the Granta 8 valve bend the valve?

The breakdown procedure itself is also equally important to study. Having understood which areas are most susceptible to damage, the owner will be able to pay more attention to them or seek help from specialists

After diagnostics, our technicians will perform a full service and help you avoid numerous causes of timing belt failure: jamming of the pump, rollers, camshaft or crankshaft. The process of valve damage itself occurs according to the following scheme:

1. The timing belt breaks.

2. The camshaft stops.

3. The crankshaft continues to rotate (the flywheel transmits rotation).

4. The pistons hit the open valves when the timing belt breaks.

Thus, the valves become bent, and in the future they will need to be completely replaced. You can also find out whether the valves of the Lada Granta 8 valve are bent from specialists working at the service station.

After all, a breakdown does not necessarily affect every owner of a domestic car. Damage occurs in exceptional cases when the motorist does not devote enough time to servicing the car. Therefore, the root cause is insufficiently conscientious operation.

Many craftsmen recommend that immediately after purchasing a Granta, you have it checked at a service station, since even small nicks on the shafts can lead to a rupture of the timing belt.

In some cases, changing the belt to a stronger one helps: the factory component may not meet the required load and operating conditions. The tension force must fully comply with the stated recommendations of the manufacturers. Therefore, self-regulation can only worsen the situation.

You should also contact a specialist if primary signs appear that may indicate a subsequent belt rupture. It could be minor noise from the timing drive. It is this that will indicate possible wear or partial wedge of the rollers or pump.

All these factors are decisive and can lead to the need for expensive repairs, and in extreme cases, to calling a tow truck if the driver was outside the city at the time of the rupture. The owner of the Grant needs to take into account all the considered nuances and solve the slightest problems immediately after they arise.

Where is the Lada Largus engine number?

Good day, can you please tell me I have a Toyota Camry 40 body 3.5 volume the check vsc system is on the engine is running normally fuel consumption

Many new owners of a domestic station wagon are wondering where the Lada Largus wine is located? Previously, on all VAZ cars, the VIN code was located in the luggage compartment and under the hood. But, LADA Largus is a joint brainchild of the Renault-Nissan-AvtoVAZ alliance, so the VIN number was moved from its usual places.

1. The knocked-out VIN of the Lada Largus is located under the front passenger seat on the transverse floor reinforcement. It’s easy to see – just move the passenger seat as far back as possible. After which you will be able to see a cutout in the carpet through which you can read the VIN code.

2. The VIN number of the Lada Largus is also printed on a duplicate plate on the right central passenger pillar.

If everything is quite simple with the Vin number of the Lada Largus, then you will have to tinker with the engine number. The fact is that the Lada Largus engine number is located on the block in the front part of the engine compartment. It is located under the exhaust manifold heat shield.

In order to see the engine number of the Lada Largus, you will have to either remove the heat shield or use a special mirror.

According to the current legislation, all vehicles must have a VIN code specified in the vehicle passport (PTS).

You need to know where the engine number is on a VAZ. This information is needed to clarify the following parameters:

  • year of manufacture of the machine, its power;
  • manufacturing company (factory);
  • Is the vehicle listed as stolen?

A special table, which is stamped along with the number, contains the following information about the features of the car:

  • number for spare parts (corresponds to the serial number of the vehicle produced at the plant);
  • transport type approval code;
  • manufacturer code, body number, car model, year of manufacture;
  • maximum permissible weight of the vehicle;
  • motor model;
  • maximum permissible weight of the vehicle together with the trailer;
  • codes of configuration, version;
  • maximum axle load – front and rear.

It is worth noting that the production year of various Lada car models begins on the first of October, three months earlier than the calendar month.

In some cars, the number is even indicated in the trunk and in the interior. Unfortunately, Granta's owners were a little less fortunate. In this model, the number is indicated only in the engine compartment. All that remains is to find him.

To find where the engine number is located on the Lada Granta, first you should open the hood and carefully inspect all the parts. The object you are looking for is located at the end of the cylinder block, namely above the clutch housing.

In some cases, individual spare parts will interfere with a comfortable inspection, so it is worth having a flashlight and a small mirror with you. If these items are not present, remove the air filter to gain access to the required area. When registering with the traffic police and changing the technical passport, it is not at all necessary to remove spare parts, because they have their own way of inspecting the engine compartment.

A regular engine code will help you find out various useful information. For example, determine whether the engine has been replaced and what its features are. Having basic knowledge, it will be very easy to find the number on an 8-valve or 16-valve Lada Granta. Moreover, this model of vehicle has only one possible location for the number - under the hood above the clutch housing at the end of the cylinder block.

Types and characteristics of viburnum engines, their pros and cons

Various types of engines are installed on Kalinas, the very first was the usual 8 valve with a displacement of 1.6 liters under the number 11183, after which they began to install engines 11194 with a smaller volume of 1.4 but with 16 valves, on more expensive cars such as Kalina Sport they also install a Priorov engine under number 21126 which has a volume of 1.6 and 16 valves.

In 2012, AvtoVAZ launched a new engine number 21116 with 8 valves and a displacement of 1.6; the main difference from 11183 is a lightweight piston engine (due to this, power increased, but the engine became plug-in). For now, this engine is installed only on the Grant, which came to replace the Kalina sedan, but I think in the future it will also be installed on Kalinas.

Main pros and cons of engines

VAZ 11183 (1.6-8cl):

Pros:

  • Well-known and proven engine (repaired in many services, availability of spare parts).
  • Not plug-in, if the timing belt breaks there is little chance of the valves meeting the pistons.
  • Good traction at the bottom.

Minuses:

  • Increased engine noise and vibration (often a sound like a diesel engine appears).
  • Requires periodic valve adjustment.
  • Air conditioning is almost never installed at the factory on this engine.

VAZ 11194 (1.4-16cl):

Pros:

  • Lowest fuel consumption compared to other engines.
  • Quiet operating sound and no vibration.
  • Good acceleration dynamics up to 6 thousand rpm on the highway.
  • Does not require valve adjustment, without possible repairs, it only requires oil and filter changes.

Minuses:

  • If the timing belt breaks, the valves bend, and you have to change both the valves and the piston (the German piston is not very available).
  • Increased oil consumption is often observed, especially after 40,000 - 60,000 km.

VAZ 21126 (1.6-16cl):

Pros:

  • Quiet operating sound and no vibration.
  • The best acceleration dynamics of all the engines presented, the most powerful engine in the Lad line.
  • Does not require valve adjustment, without possible repairs, it only requires oil and filter changes.

Minuses:

If the timing belt breaks, the valves bend.

VAZ 21126 (1.6-16cl):

This engine is completely new and there is very little information on it, as it turned out the first drawback in it: like a 16 valve engine, if the timing belt breaks, it bends the valves, perhaps it will transfer some of the sores from the 1.4 16kl engine.

Engine number (21127) 1 6 liter 106 l with: 16 cl – where is it located

On the 16-valve injection valve supplied since 2015, the marking plate is mounted in a standard location. The manufacturer decided not to change traditions and placed the number under the thermostat. A similar configuration is observed on cars from 2016-2019.

This stability is achieved by the fact that the engine block, in fact, does not undergo changes. The main differences are in the attachments.

What is needed to replace the timing belt

The leading link of the gas distribution mechanism is the crankshaft. It sets the pace of operation of the timing belt. Rotation at high speed and friction forces lead to fairly rapid stretching and wear of the belt. However, the decision about what to change when replacing the timing belt is made after a careful inspection of the mechanism.

It is checked for the presence of play in the tension and support rollers, the absence of oil leaks, and the serviceability of the water pump, the drive (pulley) of which is part of the timing belt, is determined. Therefore, when repairing the gas distribution mechanism, you may need more than just a belt. To replace it, you will definitely need the following set of tools:

  • a set of open-end, socket and ring wrenches Nos. 10, 13, 17, including a special fork wrench for fixing the tension roller;
  • a torque wrench for tightening the nuts with the required force;
  • a device for checking belt tension;
  • screwdrivers;
  • jack.

Before you begin replacing the timing belt, you should prepare the vehicle. First of all, the car needs to be fixed so that it does not rock back and forth. Remove the front right wheel and the protection under it, as well as other parts that may cause you inconvenience when working. After removing the protection, return the wheel to its place. It is most convenient to combine marks and marks on timing pulleys and engine body parts.

Grants engine number is rusty and unreadable

VAZ 11186 engine, do the valves bend on the 8 valve grant?

Some users are faced with the fact that during inspection, rusty spots are discovered at the place where the marking was applied. A fairly common problem that can be easily solved. To clean the block, just follow the procedure.

  1. Use a rag or a special brush to remove loose dirt from the metal surface.
  2. Next, treat the panel with special means. Typically kerosene, diesel fuel or a corrosion inhibitor is used. The product should be applied carefully so as not to damage the plastic and polymer parts of the engine.
  3. After waiting for the dirt to settle, you need to forcefully clean the area with a metal brush. You can act boldly and not be afraid of damaging the inscription. Factory encryption is applied using the shock method and is not afraid of such actions.
  4. After rough cleaning, you can wipe everything with a dry, clean rag and treat it with anti-corrosion agents.
