History of Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution 8
In 2003, the Lancer Evo 7 underwent some changes, and a new generation Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution 8 . The main feature was the new transmission. Its essence was that a worm-type differential was mounted on the front axle, and a Super AYC differential was mounted on the rear axle, making the transmission more advanced.
The result of the engineers' work was a transmission that could assess the situation on the road and distribute torque with maximum effect.
In terms of external parameters, the car remained similar to the previous generation. Some contours have become softer, but overall the car retains the aggressiveness of a sports car.
The 8th generation Lancer Evo began to be supplied to the USA, but in comparison with the Japanese version, they were less functional. The reason for this conclusion was the conventional transmission. The thinking transmission Super Active Yaw Control was absent there.
Among the innovations of the eighth generation, it is worth noting the rear spoiler and carbon fiber with end supports. Also, the American version had larger rear bumpers, because this was required by safety regulations in the USA.
The MR and RS versions had an aluminum roof. The MR version was also equipped with a 6-speed automatic transmission. The following options were not included in the basic package:
- Electric windows;
- Rear spoiler;
- Navigator;
- Electric mirrors and locks;
- ABS system;
In the US, the RS version was sold with air conditioning. All options can only be obtained by purchasing the Urban package.
Added to the basic package:
- 17-inch wheels;
- Bistein shock absorbers;
- Brembo brakes;
It is worth noting that the Lancer Evolution instrument panel has a button to turn on the climate control.

Changes to Evolution VI mainly affected the cooling system and improved engine reliability. It received a large intercooler, a large oil cooler, and new pistons, along with titanium-aluminum turbos for the RS model, which went into production first.
In addition, the Evolution VI once again receives a new body, changes can be easily seen in the front bumper, where the huge fog lamps have been smaller and moved to the corners to improve airflow.
A new model has been added to the GSR and RS range; known as the RS2, which was the same RS but with a few GSR options. Another limited version of the RS was known as the RS Sprint, a tuned RS from Ralliart that was lighter and more powerful (330 hp (246 kW)).
Another special version of the Evolution VI was released in 1999: the Tommi Mäkinen Edition, named after Finnish rally driver Tommi Mäkinen, who won four WRC racing championships with Mitsubishi.
It featured a redesigned front bumper, red/black Recaro seats (with the name T. Mäkinen stamped on them), 17-inch white Enkei wheels, a leather-trimmed steering wheel and Momo rocker, a titanium turbine impeller, improved front struts, lower ground clearance, and more responsive steering mechanism.
Other colors of the Evo VI included red (Tommi Mäkinen only), white, blue, black or silver with special decals (replicating the color scheme of Tommi Mäkinen's rally car).
This machine is also sometimes referred to as the Evolution 6½, Evolution 6.5, or TME for short.
1999 Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution VI 2.0 l / 280 hp Mileage – 72,000 km
Selling a very nice six in excellent condition. Not a cut, not a constructor, not a thrown beam, not a piece of rotten wood, but a very worthy option. Also, the car has not been “restored”, and the number of winters it has seen can be counted on the fingers of one hand. Now it is stored in a warm parking lot and is driven out only on dry, sunny days.
I'm the third owner. The title is original, the car is official - at one time it was purchased from a dealer in Moscow. The mileage is original and in general the car is almost completely stock with the exception of a few parts such as screws, titanium exhaust, Recaro seats, turbine 9ya (new, installed since the fall).
In addition, I will give away a second set of wheels, headlights, bumpers and much more. The car is parked for the winter, inspected at any time.

The main feature of the latest Evo is the advanced electronics in the all-wheel drive system. The ACD (Active Center Differential) central differential, equipped with a multi-plate clutch, is controlled electronically, which is combined with the Super AYC (Active Yaw Control) system - a “smart” rear differential, which, based on electronic signals, is able to twist the desired wheel for better cornering. How it works? If you apply more traction in a corner, the rear of the car will turn the car a little. The rear differential has friction clutches, which are electronically controlled and clamped and supply torque to the overdrive gearboxes. It turns out that in a left turn, the right rear wheel begins to rotate a little faster, and the car steers with traction at the same steering wheel position. In addition to this, the car is equipped with a stabilization system, which is no longer needed to insure the pilot, but to help him control. You can, without much thought, set the direction with the steering wheel, and the “smart” ASC will help.
The ACD center differential in normal mode divides the moment between the front and rear axles in a ratio of 50:50, but depending on driving conditions, under electronic control it is smoothly blocked from free to hard.
