Domestic lubricants at almost all times did not shine with innovations or cutting-edge performance properties. Along with average quality and a satisfactory set of characteristics, domestic lubricants have occupied a niche of inexpensive oils on the market.
Production facilities of Lukoil Corporation
Lukoil's products, as one of the most recognizable representatives of the domestic lubricants industry, have always been noted as stable and inexpensive. Luka oils were mainly poured into domestic cars or foreign cars with high mileage.
In 2015, the production of domestic lubricants marked a new era. The largest Russian lubricants company presented a new line of motor oils: Lukoil Genesis.
In the process of developing these lubricants, their certification in world organizations and obtaining approvals from leading automakers, a Herculean work was done.
Now let’s take a closer look at the procedure for selecting Lukoil oil.
Popular Lukoil motor oils
Let's take a few popular oils, most often found on Russian markets.
- Lukoil Standard. Lukoil mineral motor oil for outdated naturally aspirated engines with high mileage. Suitable for domestic classics and foreign cars without turbochargers, intercoolers and direct fuel injection. The lubricant complies with the SF/CC standard.
- Lukoil Super semi-synthetic. Motor lubricant with a package of simple additives. Suitable for domestic cars and foreign cars with simple, unpowered engines. Not recommended for use with engines equipped with exhaust gas treatment systems that comply with EURO 3 and higher. API class – SL/CF.
- Lukoil Lux synthetics. One of the most popular lubricants in the line of simple oils. API SN/CF class and a high-quality additive package allow this oil to work in most engines over 10 years old.
- Luxury Turbo Diesel. Modern semi-synthetic lubricants for diesel engines equipped with turbochargers. API class - CF. It is used not only in passenger cars, but also in modern trucks, as well as agricultural and industrial equipment.
In addition to these lubricants, the Genesis line includes several special oils that have unique properties. These lubricants are developed for specific purposes.

Genesis line
Lukoil Genesis products include several motor oils with different properties and areas of application. Let us briefly describe the products of this line.
- Armortech is an all-season 100% synthetic motor oil, suitable for almost all modern high-performance internal combustion engines. The main property that is emphasized is good protective qualities at high loads and at low temperatures. A package of modern additives not only allows the engine to comply with strict environmental standards, but also significantly reduces fuel consumption.
- Claritech - full synthetics . A series of these lubricants are alloyed with additives containing a minimum of sulfur, phosphorus and ash sulfate, which significantly reduces the amount of harmful emissions. Ideal for working with engines operating according to EURO-5 and EURO-6 standards.
- Glidetech - in this synthetic oil, increased attention is paid to additives that reduce internal resistance in the rubbing parts of the internal combustion engine. This is reflected in reduced fuel consumption.
- Polartech is a 100% synthetic motor oil designed for use in regions with large temperature fluctuations. Provides reliable protection when starting in extreme cold (down to –40 °C). It also protects the engine well in the summer. The maximum permissible ambient temperature is +40 °C.
- Advanced - synthetic motor lubricant , the main qualities of which are: durability, stability and increased protection of engine parts from wear. All Genesis line lubricants have a large number of approvals and approvals from automakers.
Features of the Genesis line
The line is represented by fully synthetic oils, for the synthesis of which new developments in the field of molecular technologies were used, as stated by the manufacturer. The line has been certified and has high ratings based on independent tests. According to international standards, it even exceeded some indicators. Examples of such indicators in tests:
- Reducing camshaft cam wear by 10 times than required by the API SN standard.
- Stably holds the oil film, reducing friction and wear of parts. This indicator is achieved due to an exclusive formula - molecules with two points of contact that are attached to the surface and held on it.
- Provides protection for a motor that moves short distances; the parts of such motors do not have time to warm up, and condensation forms, which causes great harm to the parts. According to tests, protection against this phenomenon increases 4 times.
- Protects the engine during frequent cold starts.
LUKOIL GENESIS can be used in engines of any type, gasoline and diesel, including turbocharged versions of engines. A good choice for cars, sports cars, crossovers, minivans and minibuses, four-stroke power units. The oil is good and relatively inexpensive, the average price is about 1,500 rubles per 4 liter canister. Basically, all oils from this line belong to the SN class according to API, but there are differences between them. Each product from the line is not universal and is suitable for different cases, let's look at them all.
Independent selection
Correct selection of Lukoil oil requires compliance with four conditions.
Main mistakes when selecting engine oil - video
- Compliance with the recommended lubricant base. You should not pour mineral oil into modern engines. It is also better not to use semi-synthetics in new engines with low mileage. Especially if the car is not from the budget category.
- Selecting the correct SAE viscosity. Here, in addition to the manufacturer’s recommendations, climatic conditions should be taken into account. If the manufacturer indicates in the documentation the preferred viscosity of 10W-40, and the car is operated in northern regions, it is better to lower the winter viscosity level to 5W or 0W.
- Compliance with API, ACEA or ILSAC classifier. Here deviations are only allowed upward. For example, if a gasoline engine requires SL class lubricant, then it is also acceptable to use SM and SN.
- Availability of approval or permission from the car manufacturer. This condition is desirable, but not mandatory when selecting Lukoil oil. However, the presence of approval guarantees that this lubricant has been tested in the automaker's laboratory and is fully suitable for use in engines of certain car models.
Compliance with all four of these conditions will allow you to select the most suitable lubricant.
Important characteristics of the LUKOIL lubricants line
- Base number. This aspect greatly influences the laundering and acidic chemical characteristics of a motor lubricant. According to many experts, this number is constantly high for many oils. Accordingly, the company’s oil does an excellent job of performing detergent and functions.
- Ash content of oil. It characterizes the total number of ash pieces created during product combustion in the engine. In the LUKOIL series of oils, the ash content will be much lower than the maximum permissible value. This means that the lubricant will not coke the inner rings. During natural combustion of the oil, minimal soot may be produced.
- The minimum sulfur content is an important indicator of the level of oil purification. A high-quality base is the key to long engine operation.
- Flash point indicator in the crucible. Tests in laboratories have revealed that in modern synthetic oils the flash value is much higher than the flash value of foreign analogues. From this we can conclude that Lukoil oil has excellent ignition protection.
- The oil also has good resistance to waste, which guarantees minimal consumption on worn-out engines.
In a short time, LUKOIL oils managed to gain a whole niche in the European and Russian markets. Many car owners have changed their usual oils to the Russian equivalent.
Selection using automated services
Today, many stores selling lubricants are introducing services for selecting Lukoil motor oil by car brand on their websites. Moreover, such programs are implemented not only by official suppliers, but also by third-party sellers.
This is what the Lukoil oil selection service looks like
Any such service, as a rule, includes two selection algorithms:
- search line, where you need to enter the make and model of the car, and then select your engine from the drop-down list;
- step-by-step transitions: car make, model, year, engine.
For most modern and older engines, the selection program often offers several suitable options. Here it is up to the driver to choose. There is a simple trend in the Lukoil product range: the higher the price, the better the performance.
Product reviews
Sergey: Overall, I would say that I am completely satisfied with the products from Lukoil. Using oils, Lukoil drove its swallow 16 thousand kilometers. Of these, 6 thousand were the last on the highway. The engine in the car is weak and required a fair amount of revving. During the entire trip, it took about 200 grams of oil - no more. As a conclusion, I can say that all the products in the series are of quite high quality and the motor works with a bang!
Anton: When I was in Moscow, the person who sold Lukoil oil helped me select oil according to the car brand. He also told me that famous “manufacturers” even buy it and fill it with various nasty things, after which they sell it.
Vitaly: The advantages of oils from Lukoil. The most important advantage is its cost and quality. I can’t say whether this is true or not, but as a rule they sell products from Volgograd. A friend deals with spare parts and constantly advised against buying Volgograd. There are bottling notes at the bottom of each canister. Disadvantages: None, I think. Except perhaps the very biased opinion of buyers, which I disagree with.
Alexander: I’ll write my review here, my car is 15 years old, I bought it about a year ago. After purchasing it, I filled it with Lukoil oil. Earlier in the previous year I filled it with Mobil Super. As a result, I would like to say that Lukoil began to press and drip oil from the oil seal and leak directly from the engine. The car itself is in excellent condition.
Andrey: The mileage is 200 thousand kilometers. I don’t want to say that Lukoil oils are bad for diesel engines, but judging by the characteristics of the engine and general behavior on the road, it is a little less viscous, it starts to rev in forward gear, and as soon as you let the engine warm up, the car rushes like crazy. This was not observed at all with the previous oil. If you engage second gear, everything is fine. It may be worth changing the oil seal and gasket.
General characteristics of Lukoil 75W90
Lukoil gear oil appeared on the market 10 years ago. It is produced at Russian and foreign enterprises that are part of a large corporation. The technical characteristics of the lubricant comply with international classification systems.
Lukoil SAE 75W-90 lubricant is universal (all-season), designed for operation in the climatic conditions of the middle zone. The SAE marking (classification of the Society of Automotive Engineers) characterizes the viscosity of the oil. 75W corresponds to the freezing temperature of the emulsion -40°C. The indicator after the letter symbol “W” 90 corresponds to the kinematic viscosity of the liquid at 100°C greater than 24 mm2/s, this is the rate of formation of an oil film on the metal. The lubricant can be used up to +35°C.
Lubricants vary in technical capabilities. They are determined by the API classification (American Petroleum Institute classification). A division into GL classes has been developed for transmission fluids. GL-1 is mineral oil without additives, of the lowest quality. Considering that there are only 6 GL classes, Lukoil 75W90 oil, presented on the domestic market, falls into the category of high-quality lubricants. For its production, an NS base is used. Hydrocracking organics (HC) are close to synthetics in physical properties and closer to mineral ones in price. Semi-synthetic base - a mixture of NS and mineral oil (no more than 20% is added).
