The Kia Sportage crossover is popular not only among ordinary car enthusiasts, but also among car thieves.
In order to protect yourself from buying a criminal car, you can turn to professionals or stock up on knowledge about the appearance and location of the VIN number, as well as the engine number. The Russian-assembled Sportage (SL, 3rd generation) has at least six identification marking verification points. The main VIN is stamped here with dots on the right front side member (on the engine drive belt side). The number is almost always covered with dust, fortunately it can be cleaned without difficulty, but you can fully check the originality of the marking only if you have a mirror:

The second position (that is, the next two characters) serves to indicate the type of vehicle. For example, JA = KIA Sportage, FA = KIA Sephia, etc. The third position (sixth and seventh digits) indicates the body style. Kia Sportage SL – engine number
