The MP-661 Drozd air pistol was developed in 2001. It can be safely called one of the best examples of pneumatic weapons not only in Russia, but also in the world. Drozd is one of the few pneumatic models capable of firing bursts. In 2002, MP-661 became a laureate of the annual competition “100 Best Products of Russia.” Strictly speaking, the model is called MP-661K Drozd, but for the sake of brevity the letter K is often omitted, so we will do the same.

The MP-661's area of ​​application is primarily hardball , but the pistol can also be used for plinking . But Drozd is not suitable for hunting and accurate shooting. In the first case there is not enough power, and in the second there is not enough accuracy. By upgrading, you can increase accuracy and power. But more often they change the appearance of Drozd, adding various stocks, false barrels, connecting cylinders with a large supply of gas, and so on - this is mainly done by hardball players.

Description of MP-661k

The pistol is packaged in a standard cardboard box containing information about the manufacturer and product characteristics. In addition to the Drozd itself, the kit includes a passport, a package of bullets, a repair kit and a device for charging the magazine (loader). In its standard version, the model is unpretentious in operation and quite reliable.

MP-661k "Drozd" has an attractive external design, fits comfortably in the hand, and is equipped with a removable stock. The material used is a combination of plastic and metal. The body is durable and can withstand repeated hits from similar devices. Its main difference from similar domestic competitors is the use of electronics and the ability to switch to automatic fire mode. Six AA batteries are used as power supplies. By moving the safety lever on the left side of the body, the red indicator is activated, which indicates that the pistol is in the firing position. These are the shortcomings that Drozd users found.

1. The ball supply system is the same as in MP654-K. And the disease of all “pneumatic Makarovs” is gas leakage through the valve. But this “disadvantage” is not at all critical. In bursts, the gas cartridge is emptied almost instantly. Two magazines - and the cylinder needs to be changed.

2. You cannot flood the “device”. Neither rain, nor beer... And the instructions say nothing about this.

3. Dropping is also not recommended, as the electronic valve may become dislodged.

4. The disadvantage of any CO2 weapon is a strong drop in power when the temperature drops. This shortcoming can be “cured” by switching to refillable compressed air cylinders.

5. Still, the weapon needs to be “finished.” The bunker model has a very flimsy mount for the heavy bunker magazine. This mount simply does not hold 400 lead bullets and falls out. This disease is “treated” by gluing steel plates in the area where the magazine is attached.

6. During any sudden maneuvers with the bunker “Drozd”, the balls in the bunker rattle loudly, like in a child’s rattle.

7. There are also such complaints: the inability to shoot from the bunker modification “upside down”. The balls simply do not flow from the magazine into the barrel in this position. The disease is treated with a special spring compression, which is mass-produced in the USA.

8. The bunker "Drozd" is quite noisy. The engine in the bunker is humming loudly.

But personally, the only negative I see in Drozd so far is the full price of the “post-shooters” (spray cans + balls). “Hmm, such a thing needs a factory for producing balls and a compressor, like firefighters have,” people on weapons forums know what they are talking about. No matter how many cans you take, it’s still not enough. But the pleasure you get from these shooting games is worth it! And my next acquisition will be a station for refilling cans with compressed air or something similar. And inexpensive, but good, round fraction 00, where can I buy one hundred kilograms? Otherwise I'll go broke!

Preparing for thrush hunting

With the arrival of spring, hunting blackbirds with pneumatic guns is not recommended, due to the fact that migratory blackbirds are no different from local ones; shooting a male or female reduces the possibility of increasing future offspring. You can find them in neighboring gardens or thickets of bushes. Evening hunting may be more successful than morning hunting and you will be able to get six of your trophies.

With the onset of mid-August, blackbirds begin hunting on migration. By this time, the rowan berry ripens, acquiring a soft tart taste. Flocking in flocks of up to thirty birds, blackbirds attack rowan berries, chokeberries and game.

In order to determine an advantageous position, it is recommended to spend a few morning hours and examine the main migratory areas of blackbirds. It is necessary to inspect the places of rowan bushes, apple and pear orchards; where there are tall poplars and birches, nest locations can be added to these places. The optimal hunting ambush for a blackbird is fifty meters away from a poplar tree or twenty meters away from a branched rowan tree. It is better to disguise yourself in a built hut, where you have two windows for observation and shooting. You can find shelter under a bush, covering yourself with a camouflage net. The choice of such a position is determined by the following - an approaching flock of blackbirds is usually divided in half, one sits on the branches of a poplar and performs security functions, conducts observation, and at the same time rests after the flight, the second half of the flock immediately attacks the rowan, enjoying the taste of the berry. Shooting should begin at blackbirds sitting on the lower branches, so that their relatives sitting on the upper branches do not have time to get scared. The maximum you can hit is three blackbirds. The rest will break loose and fly away. There is no need to rush and run to pick up trophies; there is a possibility that you will find a well-fed fieldfare. Morning dawn covers the period from six o'clock in the morning to ten o'clock. Subsequently, only late, rare flocks will arrive. Migratory hunting lasts only two weeks. Later you will be able to find small flocks that lag behind before the first frost. The right position can bring you rich trophies in the form of fifty blackbirds.

Dilemmas about disassembling and replacing the barrel in Drozd

So, first question. Why the hell would Drozd be disassembled? The question is legitimate. The machine is designed in such a way that, in principle, to care for it, it is quite enough to periodically clean the barrel and wipe the body with a cloth, since there are no moving parts in it, except for the electromagnetic striker. However, this care is provided when using Drozd “according to the passport”, this is where “it is prohibited to aim at people and domestic animals” and “the bullet retains dangerous properties at a distance of up to 300 meters.” We burst out laughing. But hardball, crawling in the drizzling rain, in wet grass or through a wet forest, or in a dusty sand pit, is a different kind of thing.

Question two. Why the hell change the barrel? It's like Shakespeare.
